This blog is dedicated to exposing United States Conservative hate, lies, inaccuracies, hypocrites and historical revisions. The Left is no where near perfect, I get that. But consistently there is more hate just for the sake of hate coming from the Right. I have good reason to deplore the Right they are openly racist, sexist, propagandists, fear-mongers, Science Deniers, they dilute the meaning of words and worst of all they like the way the world is right now and I think that is absolutely abhorrent. They hate based on skin color, Religion, Sex, Sexuality, origin, education, wealth, weight, etc.

Bread bowl people, I have a question.

Daughter got the job there and they are giving her grief about setting up direct deposit. She has a Capital One account ( the one set up for minors) so of course they are not going to give her a blank check. They assure me that all she needs to hand in is the form that’s printable. They are telling her that the can’t do anything without the blank check and put her pay on this really sketchy prepaid debit card. I told her to ask to be put back on paper checks so she can at least put them in her bank account but they told her that once it’s on the card that it she can only use the card from now on. That set off my scam alarm right there especially because the card paperwork itself says you don’t have to accept it.

This whole situation is sketchy as hell.

They need your routing number to be able to direct deposit to her account. The routing number is on the bottom of your checks. If you don’t have a checkbook you can get one from the bank. You don’t give the employer a blank check you give them a VOIDED check

To void a check you just write VOID in big letters across the whole check but don’t obscure the numbers on the bottom

Hi Rachel! I’m going to start taking some classes at a new campus for a short while. I’m a bit nervous because the campus seems like it’s in a rough neighborhood. Any advice?

Well, I'll give you the general campus security advice I give to every young woman, my sister included.

One piece of advice is don't go anywhere alone that you can possibly help it. Find a friend in each class who probably has to walk to the same buildings or at least to the bus stop or parking lot at the same times. Stay in well-lit areas after dark. I can't stress this to you enough but the old saying is true, there is safety in numbers.

You should also check your school's rules regarding self-defence weaponry. Also, state laws. I think at my alma mater we weren't even allowed to carry mace, so I had one of these on my keychain:

There are lots of options for implements of self-defence.

Another thing to check out for is whether or not your campus or some other local accommodation offers women's self-defence classes. There are lots of ways to fight back or prevent an assailant from harming us, but we don't know what to do and/or are too panicked and afraid to do so effectively. If you are trained, you're more likely to be able to defend yourself against an attacker. Especially on campuses, this is usually a free service.

You may also consider a personal alarm, or check and see if your campus security offers an alarm response app, immediate assistance if the function is used. If you're walking and someone is getting closer and making you nervous, you listen to that feeling.

Your safety isn't worth not doing something to keep from "seeming impolite". You pick your safety first always, fuck them. People try to tell women they should "get used to being uncomfortable so as not to offend anyone" and fuck them, too. Assailants are counting on that very thing, that you feel too intimidated to react before they even get close to you.

We all know some men bitch and moan about women crossing the street and hurrying away from them when they don't intend to do any harm, and they deserve a kick in the nuts and should start listening when we say why these things are so important and why we feel like we have to do it. If they listened to our stories, cared about our feelings, knew the facts and statistics about sexual assaults on campus and in general, they would be proactively trying to help fix the problem rather than being a goddamn baby just because a woman was correctly more concerned for her well-being than his pathetic, fragile ego. That's But I'm A Nice Guy! bullshit, and they're not nice guys.

And we shouldn't have to. All this is just depressing to read over because it shouldn't have to even be a thing, but it a thing, and I want you to know what to do to keep yourself safe, but to also feel safe, regardless of whether or not someone near intends to harm you. Never risk it. Never ignore a gut feeling.

Violence is not a gendered issue, men are more likely to be attacked than women, it’s a matter of being an easy victim or not. If criminals wanted to work for a living they wouldn’t be criminals. No one should have to be a victim or defend themselves from attackers but evil exists and we should be prepared to face it should evil find us.

If you tell a responding officer or jury you ‘fought to kill’ then you’re going to jail, you fight to stop a threat, death is a side product of defending yourself not your intent regardless of outcome. “Why did you crush their throat after breaking their jaw, hand, ribs, and foot?” “Because they were still presenting me a lethal threat.”

Solar and crop production research shows ‘multi-solving’ climate benefits » Yale Climate Connections

Agrivoltaics researchers are finding that the multiple benefits from pairing solar power and crops production help increase citizen engagement, support.

Excerpt from this story from Yale Climate Connections:

Compared with agriculture and ranching, the land requirements of solar are quite small. Research from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory finds that just 0.6% of the country’s land mass would be needed to power the entire country with solar power. Still, utility-scale solar projects can require hundreds of acres, and new solar projects sometimes face resistance given competing needs for food-producing farmland or recreational space.

But new studies point to the multiple benefits of combining solar electricity generation with agricultural production. From water conservation to food production, habitat restoration, and local economic development, the research demonstrates that the “multi-solving” power of agrivoltaics (combining solar in concert with other agricultural land uses) can increase public support for solar development, offering an opportunity to avoid or resolve conflicts.

Finding sufficient water for food production in the western United States has always been challenging given the arid climate, but climate change-fueled droughts are making the situation worse. To get at this growing concern, University of Arizona researchers tested their own agrivoltaic system: They planted chiltepin pepper, jalapeño, and cherry tomatoes under a solar array and compared the results to a traditional, open-sky planting area for three months.

The researchers found the panels helped moderate ground temperatures, reducing water use and improving carbon uptake among the plants. Remarkably, food production doubled under the agrivoltaic system. And because water evaporation from the plants cooled the panels, the solar system itself generated 3% more electricity during the summer, showing how both food and solar production can perform better when done in collaboration.

Agrivoltaics can support plant production, but with what effects on animals? Pasture for animal grazing uses about one-fifth of all land in the U.S., much of it in the West, where natural solar resources are also the greatest, presenting a major opportunity for agrivoltaics. Researchers at the University of Oregon investigated the effects of installing solar arrays on active grazing land, comparing a traditional open pasture farm with the Rabbit Hills Solar Farm in Oregon, which combines sheep grazing and solar energy generation.

Sheep in the agrivoltaic system consumed the same or less water, as they spent a lot of time in the shade of the solar panels during the hottest months. While the pastures in the agrivoltaic system produced less grass, the nutrient quality and seed content was higher: As a result, lamb production was similar in both systems, but land productivity was much greater in the agrivoltaic farm.
