I've been thinking on this post all day not like angry, just thinking of how the take away from a story with very overt pedophilic themes and imagery represented in the story is likeee a very superficial way to see how the story talks/treats these themes

like yeah being a kid would be better if people genuinely cared about pedophilia but within the context of the story, the notion of being a child abuser is not something that the people within the city (I'm not sure about the world at large) would actually respond to. Extreme child abuse is very common but never seen as a wrong on the adult, and rather a fault on the child. Child molestation is the norm and this is only intensified the further you progress in the story. The way the adults use and take advantage of the children given both their positions of power and actual superhuman strengths is incredibly harrowing to see time and time again, but the children are so desensitized they don't even have words to describe what happened. Reg is one of the only characters in the series that has mildly appropriate reactions to the traumas that the children around him endure, but he isn't taken seriously.

The issue isn't simply "being a kid would suck less if society cared about pedophilia", becauseeee their society doesn't consider pedophilia something to care about to an even more extreme extent. And while there are instances of adults acknowledging that other adults do very genuinely horrific things, they all share the same thing in common: Children are disposable. This kind of dehumanization makes it sooo easy for the adults to treat children like objects, like toys, like variables, etc etc, and a lot of the adults very intentionally and even proudly take advantage of that fact. And the kids don't know, and the only one that does is never taken as seriously as one normally would because the kids don't see what he seeeees. And how would they see, they wouldn't be knowing of the abuses they face if this is just normal and ok for them. But that also makes child on child sexual abuse common and normalized, and the kids don't have appropriate words to explain this or the agency to stop it.

What I guess what I'm getting to is likeee these kids wouldn't know what pedophilia is, wouldn't question it as a part of society or connect that the reason why they suffer so much is because of what their society considers appropriate and acceptable. Nanachi would noooottt say that and if that's your greatest take away from the story then, I mean this really normally, I don't think you understood it very well.

actually quick correction on my tags radfems DO know what body autonomy is (vaguely) but they will do everything they can to find a way to not include it as a pillar of feminism because they know it would have to include other people besides cis women and they don’t want to stop their ultimate goal of restricting trans and intersex rights, even at the expense of women’s liberation. they will perpetuate their own oppression and uphold the patriarchy as long as it means some trans kid in england can’t access gender affirming care or some little girl in arkansas isn’t allowed to play on a hockey team with her friends. never let them forget how fucking embarassing that is.
