“It looks like a dance off, unless someone break dances so hard they lse a limb I doubt we’ll get in any trouble.”
“Hey, you never know. One second it’s a dance off, the other people are all over each other and scratching each other’s eyes out.”
“Yeah, i’m fine. Just laying down on my lawn.”
“You sure, Kenz? Do you need anything? Some water or something?”
“I don’t know whats going on over there, but I sort of want to find out-”
“D’you think that’s safe? I’m always a little scared I’ll get myself into trouble for checking out stuff I’m not involved in.”
“I know, but my umbrella broke yesterday, unfortunately. California doesn’t receive much weather to permit much use of one, which is why the weather is really odd, but at least the soil and plants get some nutrition. Hi, by the way. I’m Reid. You are?”
“Eh, I just took my umbrella with me when I moved here. I figured I might need it eventually. Yeah, I mean... I like the rain, you know? Makes me feel all warm inside, probably because it reminds me of home. Hi, Reid. I’m Aubrey.”

Lucy: I've been awake for two hours.
Lucy: I already want to nap.
Lucy: Being ill and writing papers together sucks.
Aubrey: Have you tried taking some meds? Tea helps too! And candy! Treat yoself, girl X
Aubrey: What's your paper about anyway?
“You’re disturbing my nap.”
“Sorry... I just wanted to make sure you’re alright... Are you alright?”
“Sorry. I kept my jacket on my head, since it was raining. It’s peculiar weather we’re having. Did you know that San Francisco only receives two percent of the earth’s fresh water, considering it’s proximity to the equator? Am I rambling? Sorry again.”
“You know, most people use an umbrella when it’s raining... Although the jacket on the head is probably a good replacement when you leave the umbrella at home. Did you fo your umbrella at home?”
Reuben laughed when he received the compliment, half in disbelief and half in absolute joy that he looked good and was making others happy with is stupid, but effective costume. “I think I’m more attractive with the zombie mask on.” He joked, taking his wallet back with a nod as a thanks, turning to the bar and ordering a beer. “Nope, it’s fine! Not particularly eager, but a drink right now sounds awesome.” He reassured, turning back around to face Aubrey once the bartender got his order. “I like your blood. Not just because I’m a zombie, like… your blood accessory makeup stuff.”
Shaking her head, Aubrey shrugged off his remark. “Ah, come on. The mask isn’t too shabby, but I still like your actual face more;” she said with a chuckle, but raised an eyebrow at him when he talked. “What? You’re not eager on getting drunk? Why the heck did I drive you here, then?” She questioned jokingly as she leant against the counter and let her eyes wander around the room, turning her head to look back at him when he spoke. “Thanks! I’m really glad I added it all... I think it would’ve been a bit boring without it.” She grinned and nudged his shoulder with her fist. “Thanks for giving me the idea. I feel like you deserve all the credit for it, really.”

Reuben would’ve never imagined such a burden to be lifted off his shoulders by having someone accompany him to the costume party. He’d never been the most social type, having many fleeting acquaintances but never a fully formed group of friends. So the earliest he could learn about having someone dependable around, someone you could trust and would happily help you out, was now.
Right off the bat he’d given his valuables to Aubrey, mainly because his pockets were going to be used to hide the fact that he only had the mask on and not a full on suit, and that he knew what a clusterfuck of a person he was when he was drunk. Which, when surrounded by familiar faces on a weekend, felt inevitable. He was already ordering his first drink, and pulled off his mask when he saw Aubrey, a bright grin on his face. “Hey! Yeah, totally. There are so many people here, and some people like my costume! I told them you helped with it too, of course.”
She widened her eyes in playful shock when he pulled off his mask, yet couldn’t help but grin at the excitement in his voice. She was glad she was able to help him out with the costume, and, honestly, she was a little grateful he gave her the tip with all the blood for herself. “I’m sure glad that you’re giving me credit for it. Although it’s really all you who can pull it off so well. I didn’t think it’d work at first, but God, look at you. You’re one fine zombie,” she said half-jokingly as she reached into her bag and pulled out his wallet for him. “I hope I didn’t keep you from drinking for too long?”
makenna-hughs:
You know, I’ve got some heavy duty safety pins. We could see if I could sort of cinch the dress for you and take an inch or two off.”
“You do? That’d be so great! I feel like I’ll rip the whole skirt apart because I constantly move while someone’s standing on it.”
makenna-hughs:
“I thought about being quirky and coming as Zombie Rapunzel…but I’m terrible at that sort of makeup and I came here from my job so I had minimal time to prepare. Ah well a happy turn of fate, because you look amazing.”
“Oh, that would’ve been interesting but it looks amazing, even without the zombie part. I don’t know... at this point I really wish I had chosen a shorter skirt.”
makenna-hughs:
“You know those orange cones construction crews use for road work? I feel like I need a circle of them attached to me so that people give me a wide berth. Oh thank you…and you…you look absolutely haunting. Kind of scary and sad at the same time.”
“Ha! Yeah, that would work... Or maybe they would just keep stepping on those things then. Oh, thanks! I actually wanted to go without all the blood, but my friend said I need it. So now I feel more terrifying than I originally wanted to be.”
“Hey– don’t throw your drink at me just·‘cos you prefer Mickey. I look better in pink!”
“God, are you alright, Ollie? People are assholes, really. Minnie is obviously so much cooler than Mickey.”
briannawilde:
“Yes, this dress is as heavy as it looks.”
“Don’t you get like, really sweaty in that... because of how heavy it is, I mean?”
makenna-hughs:
“People keep stepping on my hair. I’m start to regret going for Rapunzel and not the sexy vampire costume.”
“I feel your pain... Everybody keeps stepping on my skirt and it’s driving me nuts. Although I must say that you can pull off Rapunzel pretty well.”
@reubenmacey
Aubrey had decided not to follow Reuben around like a little puppy. She wanted him to do his own thing, and she would do hers. Just because they helped each other pick costumes and got there together didn’t mean they had to walk around together the whole time. She had spent most of the time near the exit, staying in the background and watching the people have a good time. She could have included herself more, but she wasn’t completely sure if there were any other she was somewhat close with except for Reuben.
Now, however, she did feel like hanging around him a little. Making her way to the bar, she kept looking around to see if she spotted him anywhere, but it was almost impossible to find him in the huge crowds of people standing around. At the bar, she ordered herself a glass of water. Taking a sip of it, she looked around once more, finally spotting Reuben somewhere near the bar. She walked over to him, a grin on her face. “Hey, you having a good time?”
robertlocklier:
“You’d be surprised. I’ve already gotten like 6, who’s that?, questions today.”
“Well... They should be embarrassed, because obviously they lack some important knowledge.”
