She would like it on record that this was not her idea.
âwell, MAYBE it was her idea. Just a little bit. But certainly not just her idea! There are lots of people she knows who think that her taking time off specifically to spend time with a certain Shinigami Substitute is a great idea. Lots of them. Several. More than one. At least two.Â
But does it really matter whose idea it was? Sheâs here now. Sheâd managed to dance around all of her captainâs UNFORTUNATE questions, and he hadnât even managed to explicitly forbid her from coming here! Amazing. Sheâs not even very far behind on her work, so she doesnât see that thereâs a big deal. It is, after all, for the greater good.
So anyway, here she is. In Karakura Town. Ichigo still lives here, right? A few years isnât much to a shinigami, but to humans (especially YOUNG humans) that can mean everything! Maybe he went to college, or just decided to move to another city? She doesnât know WHY he wouldnât want to do something like that. Thereâs so much to see in the world andâ
Oh, but thereâs his reiatsu. So, she can say with certainty that Ichigo is currently in town. What a coincidence! Or rather, lucky happenstance, since sheâs specifically here to bother him. Whatever.
Sure enough, when she DOES track him down, he looks visibly older! Amazing how that seems to happen. After staring through the glass for a few minutes, she taps on the windowpane with the knuckles of her gigai and waves vigorously at him. (Will he think itâs weird that she climbed up to his bedroom in a gigai?! Who cares!)
â€: does my muse consider themselves a romantic?
send me a heart to learn something about my muse! // accepting
She didnât before, that much is certain. She stopped trying to give chocolates to every man in Seireitei a few years back, but up to the very last it was as much stubborn resistance toward traditional notions of romance as a ploy to earn herself three times as much chocolate a month later on White Day.Â
Something Rangiku, and everyone else, failed to account for was the notion that she, Matsumoto Rangiku, would be a romantic at heart. More than anything, Rangiku desperately wants to be coddled and cherished by someone who truly cares about her â someone who wonât abandon her or overlook her feelings on something. Oh, sheâs capable of standing up for herself, no doubt about that â but wouldnât it be better, preferable even, if she didnât have to fight all the time just to be heard?Â
Of course, even after realizing this, sheâd never breathe a word of it to anyone, except perhaps Kira. And even then, she really does risk him poking fun at her.

đ: how does my muse express their feelings? do they do through small but meaningful gestures, or through bold declarations?
Rangiku, for all her flirtations, is not good at expressing her feelings â largely because she has such poor self-awareness when it comes to her emotions. She can be quite avoidant. Sheâll spend all day meddling in othersâ affairs as a way to prevent anyone from turning that same level of scrutiny back on her own relations. As a result, most of her âtellsâ for romantic attraction toward a person are actually unconscious, since she takes just as long to realize her emotions as the other person.
(Even trying to answer this question is difficult, since she keeps trying to avoid the question by pointing out ways she shows platonic affection. Sheâs actually fairly confident in that area, usually giving gifts to people and spending more time with them and trying to give them helpful advice. But thatâs not particularly useful here.)
When put in a position where expressing her romantic feelings becomes inevitable, Rangiku becomes much more flustered when interacting with her romantic interest, not feigning interest as she might do with those she seeks to flatter. Sheâs much more likely to use pet names as a way to express affection, either by calling someone by a name more casual than they might like or through literal pet names (kitten and cupcake are clear favorites). She tends to be a touchy person naturally, so, oddly enough, she tends to become more aware that someone might have personal boundaries.Â
Essentially, she stops acting so much in her own self-interest and takes into account the other personâs needs more selflessly.

Thereâs something special about watching all your hard work come to a head.
Granted, okay, not all of the hard work was hers, exactly. Much of it. Even most of it, if sheâs being fair to everyone involved. But! Some of it was hers, and thatâs what counts in her mind. After all, if they were the ones planning out this whole thing, can you imagine what a mess it would have been! So sheâll take as much credit as she feels good about taking.Â
Which is quite a bit of it, to be sure.
The grounds of the Ninth Division look completely different, what with their makeshift dance floor and the wooden stage theyâd put together for the happy couple. Trio. Whatever. Not a good place for the ceremony itself, but the perfect place for a wedding reception â and banquet. Sheâll have to be sure to profusely thank the Captain for his talents on that one. Just part of the job.
But, now that everything is underway, thereâs no harm in enjoying herself!
âHey, Rei-chan,â she dares, before catching herself. âSorry, sorry! Fujiwara-fukutaicho. Sounds good, right?â

RELATIONSHIP HEADCANONS // accepting â Who do they consider a mentor
At this point, Rangiku doesnât really have a âmentorâ, exactly, not in part due to the fact that everyone she considered to fill the role has vanished from her life in one way or another. She obviously considered her own captains (prior to Hitsugaya) to be mentors, as well as Captain Unohana. Since that time, though, sheâs become pretty untrusting of the various authorities in her life, and itâs hard to imagine her own Captain (a literal child) as a mentor.
In an ideal world? Yoruichi would be a great mentor for Rangiku. Actually, Kukaku would too.Â
â Who would they sacrifice for, and how much would they sacrifice
RELATIONSHIP HEADCANONS // accepting
Rangiku is more willing to sacrifice than many might imagine, partially because her estimation of âsacrificeâ looks somewhat different than they might envision. Namely, she isnât willing to give up her comforts and freedom without good reason, but she is willing to die for complete strangers if circumstances become dire. Sheâll throw herself into a losing battle to give her friends or captain a flying shot at victory in her stead. (But god forbid someone gives her extra work because they canât make time for it! Thatâs an expensive sacrifice right there.)
When it comes to more personal sacrifices, Rangiku can be persuaded to give up free time or resources âcheaperâ if she likes you. For instance, she might demand payback for favors from some of the lieutenants with whom sheâs on neutral terms with, but sheâs willing to take care of Kyoko on a regular basis (though that might be a bad example, since she enjoys spending time with the girl). Apart from Renji, Shuuhei, and Izuru, sheâll cross heaven and earth for Rukia, Rei, Orihime, Momo, and her Captain, among a few others.

Thereâs something more.
Itâs always been there, or at least in the past few years. The yearning. The watching and the wanting â the something more, the desire to hold in her hands something she never thought sheâd want. Still isnât sure she wants. Whatever. Itâs just... every time she sees Kyoko with her parents, itâs there.
A few years have passed since she started opening her lieutenantsâ quarters to the little girl â once every few months, Kyoko comes to stay for a weekend with âAunt Rangikuâ, a weekend in which her parents can take a break from the rigors of parenting. An occasion that both child and lieutenant look forward to, in which they can spend the days and the nights coloring and watching Disney movies on her old VCR television salvaged from a dumpster and eating ice cream.Â
But no, itâs not a child she wants, exactly. Itâsâ
âCome in, come in!â Rangiku holds the door and edges out of the way as Kyoko rushes past her, holding a bag full of clothing and toiletries with her chubby not-toddler fingers. The little girl still isnât speaking much, which isnât a problem since Rangiku can talk enough for the both of them. âThereâs cupcakes in there!â Maybe buying those was a mistake, but how could she not? They were so cute, and sheâd known that Kyoko would love them! Plus she can send some home with Shuuhei, so the two of them wonât completely pig out.
Then she stares at Shuuhei. âYour hair is still weird like that,â she informs him, as is her duty. âAre you gonna come in too? Itâs still early, Iâm sure they wonât be completely distraught if you take your time coming back.â
