More sns au. This is Sakura’s genin team. I wanted her to have a team where she had to work with these three delinquent girls and teach them to be heroes, no boys allowed. There’s a sword wielding Hyuuga with pink eyes, a sassy younger cousin of Ino, and their leader, a plucky girl with an attitude a lot like young naruto’s.Â
That narusasu au is still kicking around in my head. It surfaces from time to time to bug me, and I’m forced to write or draw to appease it. I really want to explore the possibilities of a cool female protagonist while also keeping in mind the anti-war themes I want. A challenge, indeed.
Here are some character profiles I wrote.Â
Naruto Uzumaki - After years of intense study and training, Naruto’s finally earned the right to teach a genin team of his own; another step closer to becoming the Hokage. An enthusiastic observer of the Will of Fire, Naruto plans to put his students on the path to greatness. But his loyalty to Konoha may interfere with his promise to protect his students…Â
Menma  - Menma was a homeless orphan until Naruto discovered her and took her under his wing. He’s been her hero ever since. Now all she wants is to become a great ninja for her village, just like him. But she’s got to be the worst ninja there is! She’ll have to train extra hard to reach her dream and catch up to her peers. But the price of strength is high, and dark secrets lie in wait under the peaceful facade of the leaf village...Â
Sasuke Uchiha - A blind man spends his days and nights wandering through the torn down villages and bloody battlefields left in the wake of ninja squabbles. He helps when he can, though there’s not much one man can do against five great nations. So he travels alone, keeping to himself. But the winds of change are blowing, bringing together familiar faces and maybe a second chance to make things right…
Hikaru Senju - Hikaru is the promising scion of the Senju clan. With all five nature releases open to him, he breezes through most lessons without so much as studying. Easy going and popular, he thrives on the attention of other people. He sees being a ninja as a way to become famous; following in his ancestors’ footprints. But he may be in for a rude awakening…Â
Kaito - Kaito is the son of a prostitute from the underbelly of the ninja world. As a result of his childhood, Kaito is stern and pragmatic. His reason for being a ninja is purely practical - it is the only occupation in the village available for a child and offers good pay to which he sends to the mother he left behind. But ninja are people, not tools, and he cannot keep his emotions locked up forever…Â
Sakura Haruno - At the beginning of her journey, Sakura struggled as the weakest link of her team. But by sheer will, she began to vastly improve. Under the tutelage of Tsunade, she excelled in both medical ninjutsu and wood release. Now an elite Jonin, she secretly wants to be Hokage. But she can’t bring herself to betray Naruto, even if she wonders if he’s a good fit for the job…Â
I’m watching Naruto for the first time and man! I thought these kids were all best buds, the power of friendship and all that! I never knew these little twerps were so fuckin mean to each other!
First part of my own Naruto Sequal Au, specially brewed by me. It would focus on a lot of the themes the original series kind of dropped, such as teamwork, childhood, nationalism, fascism, war, genocide, discrimination, freedom of choice, and hard work over natural talent among others. Here are the general points of the au:
- Here, the original characters would still be a little young; no one would be married or have any kids. They’d all be jonin.
- Naruto would still be working toward becoming hokage, which includes training at least one team.
- The world would not be completely at peace; talk-no-jutsu can’t erase all the different ideals and agendas people have. Keeping a system that encourages conflict doesn’t help either.Â
- Many of the powers created in shippuden would be scrapped; I’d keep the story grounded in technical ninja fights rather than giant kaijun-like super battles.Â
- I’d make Pain the ultimate villain for Naruto. The war, Madara, and Kaguya wouldn’t happen. That means no reincarnation, reanimation, or child of prophecy shenanigans.Â
- Neji is wouldn’t die. I’d make him the leader of the Hyuuga clana and abolish their slavery system.Â
- Naruto wouldn’t be able to convince Sasuke to return to the village. Sasuke would also be blinded as a result of their fight. So no more sharingan.Â
- Orochimaru would be captured and executed for his crimes.
- Sakura would be a lot more powerful. I made her team seven’s tactical leader and gave her wood release.Â
- She’d also have quickly gotten over her crush on Sasuke after part one. It’s called character development.Â
- Hinata would also outgrow her crush after part one. So no love confession that was never addressed afterword and no getting Naruto as a consolation prize for all her pining. Her development would be about finding her own path in life rather than the ninja/political one she was born with.Â
Those are just a few of them. I’ll put up character bios in the future.
Local Bookstores Have A New Weapon In The Fight With Amazon
In the book industry, Amazon is Goliath, the giant who overshadows everyone else. But there’s a new David on the scene, Bookshop.org.
It doesn’t expect to topple the giant, but it has launched a weapon that could make Amazon’s shadow a little smaller, and help local bookstores fight back.
Bookshop.org, a website that went live at the end of January and is still in beta mode, is designed to be an alternative to Amazon, and to generate income for independent bookstores. And, perhaps more importantly, it seeks to give book reviewers, bloggers and publications who rely on affiliate income from “Buy now” links to Amazon a different option.
Profit from books sold through Bookshop will be split three ways, with 10% of the sale price going into a pool that will be divided among participating bookstores, 10% going to the publication that triggered the sale by linking to Bookshop.org, and 10% going to Bookshop.org to support its operations.

it’s also amazing for authors! i’ve been asked a couple times about the best way to support my books. this site is now the answer. it reports sales figures to the NYT and Bookscan, a type of tracking that helps authors hit bestseller lists. and even better, authors can set up affiliate pages, and if you buy through those pages, we get an additional 10 percent of each sale on top of royalties. this is a massive deal!!!
for reference, many royalty rates are in the 6-8 percent range. so if you buy through Bookshop author affiliate pages, authors get more than twice as much from sales of their books, with no additional cost to you.
the site is still in beta, but it also has a fun interface where you can make book lists for favorites or recommendations, sort of like goodreads (except better, because goodreads is owned by amazon).
