I recently found out a pair of old books that I've had since childhood (beautiful canvas hardbacks of My Friend Flicka and it's sequel Thunderhead) belonged to a soldier stationed in Washington during WWII and omg the history I feel holding them and reading them is indescribable 😍

Winter makes me feel calm. I have the curtains open, watching the grey drizzle over my garden, I boil the kettle for a cup of English breakfast tea, while I wait I watch my cat and two dogs sleep on their beds set out in a row in front of the little crackling fire place. I go back to the kettle and look out the window, crack it open a little and smell the rich wet earth mixed in with the musky sweet smell of smoke from the fire place. My border collie twitches in his sleep when he dreams and my little rescue dog barely wakes up from her sleep when I walk past with my steaming hot tea. Winter makes me feel calm.
