I recently updated my initial poster with the QR code and Facebook and twitter icons! I also created a new poster inspired by the photo journalism shown in class. I think the monochromatic sense is satisfying and I am very happy with how it turned out. Last but not least I wanted to play a little bit more with the QR codes so I made little student QR cartoons. Brianne and I decided we liked the sketchbook look of the drawings. These would be fun to place in conspicuous places on campus.
2 Updates for the Price of One!
The QR Code!
Most of the feedback I have gotten from my latest work are thoughts incorporating a QR code for The Siskiyou website. I did some research on these bad boys and created one! I want to research more about guerrilla art and find a way to place these cleverly around campus. I remember when they were plastered everywhere in the Marion Ady Gallery and after a while of passing by them I eventually scanned one to find a students portfolio. I think this will have the same effect for The Siskiyou!
PLACEMENT.
After coming up with at least two new images before the final presentation, I want to post a gallery of example locations my work can be posted by taking photos of the work in those spots- including the ones from the Instagram #audsprobs Day. And finally, I hope to conclude by giving The Siskiyou access to my work and letting them contact me for any further inquiries.
I have been researching different "freedom of speech"/"speech" posters to help inspiring a poster for the Siskiyou that can bring out "The Voice of SOU Students" tagline on the website. I got some feedback from a couple people in the class and they really enjoyed this piece. I sent it to the print shop to have it printed in a 11x17 poster to see how it looked!
I just thought about adding, Facebook and Twitter icons at the bottom to help traffic more viewers to the pages.
I put this together last week just to practice different concepts. But now it is time to focus on something that can be printed larger and a little bit more simple. I want to emphasize "the voice of SOU students", so my goal by next Tuesday is to have two new images and a print of just this one, or all three depending on sources. That way I can even practice placing them around canvas. I hear students can get pretty big prints done by the SU.
I finally have contact with the editor of the Siskiyou and my next step is put together my own deliverables to show the students of the paper. Actually start planning out certain spots and what kind of ad would fit the best!
Tuesday's class last week really helped me in the sense of placement. I think The Siskiyou's ads should be BIG but minimalistic. I was in Portland last week and paid close attention to the ads around down town. I loved seeing paintings on buildings and the massive posters. While in the Pioneer Square I actually got to see a gentleman placing floor advertisements for AT&T which I think would be something perfect for the buildings around the university. My next step is to figure out what the paper thinks of my ideas and come up with some designs to experiment with. I really appreciate the help the other day in class everyone, thanks again!
The bigger the better right?! These almost wall-sized posters are a great, modern way to get a point across and capture attention. I have been researching different educational ways to put up massive posters in order to help out Southern Oregon University school's newspaper, The Siskiyou. Yeah.. I didn't know there was one either. Around a year or two ago it became a online only thing. But I am here to represent PRINT IS NOT DEAD! A poster like these, bold, creative, and modern will traffic more readers to the cite. As far as I know, only a few issues come out a term/semester.. These posters can have the name, and a few sneak peaks to spark interest. Plus, they can be in big open areas around campus, not JUST the library or the Student Union. There is still more research to come as I learn more and more about the paper. I am excited to take on this project because like I said before: PRINT IS NOT DEAD.
One of my greatest accomplishments is finally creating an online portfolio to display my recent work efficiently.
