like a date
briarruza:
It was odd, wasn’t it? She already knew a fair amount about August, even if she didn’t know him as well as she wanted to. That was the goal of dates though, right? That was certainly the goal here. As she opened the door to the man, the first thing she noticed was the tired look on his face. There was a small frown across her own lips and drawing in her brows. She knew he was exhausted, and yet he still managed to show up anyway. The woman wouldn’t have been shocked if he had called her and tried to reschedule. In fact, she would have brought takeout to the hospital and helped him with his back while they ate something. Date-on-the-fly with a doctor.
Still, a smile replaced the concern on her face when she let the door swing open and she stepped through it to greet him. Nimble fingers rose to drift across his cheek before she cupped it in appreciation of his coming– and the flowers. Thank you, Alice. Slipping in close, she moved to her tip toes to brush her rouge painted lips across his cheek in greeting, and took the flowers with her free hand. “For me?,” she teased gently with a wide smile. “Alice is so sweet.” Of course she was playing with him, knowing where they came from, and she was trying to draw a smile on his lips. What better way to get her favorite patient to smile than to tease him? “Come on in. Dinner’s almost ready. Do you want me to put something on your back before we eat?”
“Well that explains her enthusiasm” Of course Ruza was friends with the person who ran the one shop in town to get flowers, and of course the said woman knew exactly who his date was with. He could enjoy the irony, probably more once he was over the nerves. “At least it means you’ll definitely like them, giving flowers isn’t something I would usually do. But it felt right here, for you.” He’d never really been one to pull his punches, and that went for his words as well as his fists. His brutal honesty had gotten him into some tights spots in the past, it had also gotten him into some pretty interesting places too.
He winces slightly as he follows her through the door, sheepishly running a hand through his short locks “That obvious?” Though he had the added fact that Ruza was also his doctor to deal with when trying to just keep going despite the pain, no matter how well he tried to hide it someone so trained like her was bound to spot it. “Trying to get me out of my shirt already doc?” He could have just waved away the offer, he had just taken some of the prescribed pain medication that would be bound to kick in soon but he saw the opportunity to tease her and as always he couldn’t miss it.
