This is a blog dedicated to the musings and creations of the creator with the penname August Song or username AugustsSong. That's me! I enjoy writing both fanfiction and original content. I do not like the use of Ai in writing or art, so I would like to announce that I am an Ai safespace. None of my content is Ai generated.
My name is August! I decided to write this post as an introduction to who I am, what my goals are, and what I stand for.
Ever since I was a child I have only had one goal: I have wanted to become a published author. Of course, with the changing social climate and the evolution of literature as a medium through the introduction of social media, things aren't as simple as they were when I was a wee little girl with a pen, a journal and a dream. Now most agents require some social media backing and marketing. They want some proof that people want to read your work.
So let's get this out of the way: I have Asperger's Syndrome. My particular edge of the autism spectrum is a place where I struggle very intensely with socializing and presenting myself in front of others. That means that the standards to be met to get your work noticed seem insurmountable to me.
Whatever happened to the classical brooding artist that locks themselves away while they create?
Where has the space gone for the introvert with creativity pumping through their veins but no desire to actually talk about it?
That's me.
I'm that person.
I'm the weird victorian lady locked in the study with a quill and a script who everyone thinks is a witch.
The sole reason I have a pen name is because I don't want to drag my real identity into it. I prefer some degree of anonymity so I can be comfortable as my social battery is very tiny and rarely charged. There is a very personal meaning behind my name choice, though, and I don't mind sharing it with you.
August is because that is my birth month. Pretty straightforward.
Song comes from my actual name. My middle name, though I was born in the middle of summer, is the Christmas associated noun "Noel". Noel means the "first song" or "first choir".
Therefore I am the Song of August. Sometimes I use "Aria" instead of song, since it's another synonym. It just depends on if my preferred moniker is taken.
And this is my awkward attempt to try to get some exposure.
I write original content, of course, otherwise my dream of being a published author would be crushed under the reality of copyright. BUT. I also write fanfictions. I have since I was a teenager, and I don't foresee myself ever stopping. I attribute many of the leaps I have made in my writing voice and skill to fanfictions, since they are projects I can engage in without ever expecting anything back. Therefore this blog will be a social hub for both my original work and my fanfictions.
That being said, I am on the spectrum with difficulty in socializing, so most social media is alien to me. Please let me know if you want me to start a page on something else like Discord or Reddit. I might need to figure it out since it's an alien concept, but I want to reach as many people as possible.
I also want to be frank here: I think generative Ai is ruining creative spaces for artists, including art and literature. It's not that I don't think Ai has a place as a tool, which is what it was meant for, I just don't think that cold machines can replace the beauty and intricacy of the human mind. That's why I promise that I will not use Ai in the writing of my work, or in the art I display. Not even for editing, in case it taints my voice and intentions. Even my art on my banner and my icon are drawn by me.
I know it's hard to trust someone you've never met, but I hope you recieve my goodwill believe in my integrity.
Thank you so much!
August Song.

Hi! If you are new here, I'm so happy you stopped by! if you are returning, thank you for coming back. It's wonderful to see you. :)
For those that don't know me, I'm August Song, an aspiring author and hobbyist fanfiction writer. And this is a notification that my newest fanfiction has been updated.
I want to preface this by letting everyone know that I am going to be traveling for the next two weeks (over three time zones). Despite this hiccup, I will still try to keep my update schedule. If the timing for the updates are a little wonky, that's why.
Now, let me give you a summary of the the fic:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. As he tries to figure out what's left without a family legacy, he meets a girl who changes everything. Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
And of course, the mandatory mechanical pencil sketch for the chapter:
Do you like it? I made it with .5 mm lead and spite for Ai! Are you sold on joining me on this journey yet? It's okay if you are unsure. I have an excerpt of chapter 14 and yet ANOTHER sketch for you to see. Check it out!
Chapter 14: Akin to Putting Down a Rabid Crup
“It’s good to see you, mate. We haven’t heard a peep out of you since we left for the Holiday.” Bonson opened in a friendly manner, completely ignoring Draco’s surly look.
“We’ve been bunkering down.” Draco informed him. “It’s too dangerous to wander about.”
“We got caught up in the Diagon Alley Crowd Crush.” Azalea explained. “It kept us from wanting to venture out again.”
“What?! Nasty business, that was. You two were there?” Pike’s jaw fell in disbelief.
“I had a sister who died there.” Blaise said flippantly, swirling his wine again. The entire mood shifted. What he said so harsh that every eye was on him, jaws down.
“What?” Blaise looked at them, his brow furrowing, trying to figure out why they were sending pitying looks his way.
Azalea was usually the first to offer sympathy and condolences with her gentle femininity, but instead she had a puzzled expression. Blaise’s thoughts must have taken her off guard.
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Draco offered, unsure of what else to say. “If I had known, I might have been able to help. I didn’t see anyone that looked like you.”
Blaise blinked, also confused, before understanding hit him and he elaborated.
“Oh, shit. No, that’s not what I mean. Usually that’d be a bad thing, right? I was trying to make small talk, since you brought it up. I’m not sad or anything. I barely knew her. My mother was married seven times, Draco. Seven. I have more siblings than I care to think about, and even more step siblings.” Blaise shrugged, as if he wasn’t talking about the death of a relative. “I still had to go the funeral, though. That was awkward.”
“Why was it awkward?” Pike asked curiously.
“Because I’m pretty sure my Mum offed her Dad. He was like… the third marriage? I think? Anyways, she took all his assets and left my sister with nothing. And then she had the audacity to show up to the girl’s funeral and drag me along. The entire congregation was glaring daggers at us while they read the eulogy.”
“What are you all talking about?” Theo peeked in, looking dapper. He was usually so unassuming and meek in appearance, but he cleaned up quite nicely. His eyes dropped to Azalea’s necklace, his keen gaze sussing it out instantly.
“Holy Hell, is that Malfoy’s Mark?” Theodore clapped Draco on the back, the boisterous motion unusual for him. “Congrats, Draco!”
His sudden interference was welcome, considering the heavy topic he interrupted. But Pike wasn’t following the change in topic well.
“Malfoy’s Mark?” Pike glanced between Draco, to Blaise, to Azalea and then to Theodore. “What’s that?”
Azalea blushed and fiddled with the pendant.
“He’s saying that Azalea is his and he plans to marry her.” Blaise sipped his wine dryly. “Possessive bastard.”
“What?!” Shocked, Pike looked to Draco for confirmation.
“It’s a Malfoy heirloom.” Theodore, ever the fountain of knowledge, piped in. “The Malfoys are notorious for their devotion. Once they find a woman they like they don’t stray. That necklace is given to that woman as proof of their relationship.”
“Ain’t that what an engagement ring is for, though?”
Pike wasn’t wrong.
Draco frowned. Maybe he should just get an engagement ring and seal the deal.
“Kind of. It’s like a placeholder until it’s appropriate to propose.” Theo continued. “They are still in school, after all. And the relationship is still new.”
“There’s no rule that says we can’t propose before graduation.” Draco thoughtfully returned, wondering if he should go through with it.
Ahhh~ wasn't that a fun snippet? I am partial to the bits with Draco and his friends. I'm not sure why.

Hello! If you are new here, it's wonderful to have you! If you are returning, welcome back! :)
I'm August Song. An aspiring author and hobbyist fanfiction writer. Currently I am posting my fanfiction, Malfoy's Mark: Draco's Obsession, chapter by chapter.
Here is the story summary, so you know what to expect:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. As he tries to figure out what's left without a family legacy, he meets a girl who changes everything. Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
And of course, I've made it tradition to post a mechanical pencil sketch that is inspired by the chapter. All of my sketches are made by hand, free of Ai, just to spite the overlords. Check it out:

Chapter 13: An Encyclopedia of Cute Habits
“I blew up the front of Quality Quidditch Supplies.”
There was a long pause after he said it, his admission hanging in the air.
“...I’m sorry, what?” The insane statement made her freeze and her brows pulled together in confusion.
“Blew it up. Bombarda.” Draco continued dryly, imitating an explosion with his hands. “Boom.”
“You blew it up? Why?” The confusion diffused her anger, her tears momentarily stopping as she stared at him, perplexed.
“Because there was a whole crowd of people shooting spells between you and me. The only way I could think to get to you quickly was to steal the broomstick from the display and go over top. So I did. And I would do it again if I had to.” Draco locked eyes with her. “I would do anything to keep you safe.”
It wasn’t the answer she wanted, her face crumpling.
“I don’t want that!” She sniffled, fresh tears falling down as she tried to resume to task of removing glass. Draco didn’t even flinch though her precision was altered by her emotions, his grey eyes watching her carefully. “I don’t like seeing you hurt. Please don’t put yourself in danger for me, I can’t take it.”
“I will. I’ll put myself in danger every time. If you can stay safe, I’ll do whatever it takes.” He clenched his jaw, and with how shredded it was it burned with pain but he ignored it. The flexing muscle caused more blood to well up and Azalea’s eyes caught on it. The visceral nature of the wound made her sob more, and she tried her best to continue healing him despite how much it emotionally stung.
“Why won’t you just listen? Doesn’t this hurt? Don’t humans naturally avoid pain?!” She argued, pulling out a sizable chunk of shrapnel. Registering its size made her cry harder and she paused, trying her best not to wipe her face with her bloody hands, sobbing hard enough she couldn’t continue for a moment.
“Humans have been known to sacrifice for love. Time and time again. It’s the most admirable characteristic of our species. If anything I’m more human now that I have something I would protect at all costs.” He sighed, hating how upset it was making her but refusing to say what she wanted. Once Draco formed an opinion he wouldn’t deviate from it. It’s what got him disowned.
“I’m your boyfriend.” He softly continued. “Men are supposed to protect women. It’s instinctual. A man who would hurt his woman or purposefully leave her in danger is nothing more than a beast. Subhuman. I can’t promise to do anything that goes against my core beliefs and instinct. I could lie to anyone else and say I will, but not you.”
“And as for the pain…” He offered her a smile, the wounds on his chin straining. Noticing she was about to get upset, he quickly covered it, accidentally revealing his damaged arm. “It looks worse than it is, believe me. I’m used to pain. I can handle this.”
“I hate that even more!” She wailed. “Why do you have to be used to it?! Why has wizarding society turned to this? This… this is wrong. So many people died today.”
Right. This was about his injuries, but it was also about the situation. He hadn’t even fully processed the horror of what he’d seen but it’s natural to be traumatized. Comforting her came first, his wounds be damned.
“It’s okay.” Draco reached out and gathered her in his arms, not even worried about the blood anymore. She had pretty much smeared it everywhere by now. “We made it back. As long as we are together, it’ll be fine. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“That’s the problem!” She hissed, anger drawing her out of her anxiety as she pushed back from him. “Look at the state of you! I wish you would put more care into yourself instead of just me. You used to be the most selfish boy alive. How did you turn into a bloody heroic Gryffindor?”
Draco frowned.
“Well that’s a little uncalled for isn’t it? A Gryffindor?”
“Only a Gryffindor would explode glass in their own face.” Azalea clicked her tongue, in control of her emotions again, her watery green eyes furious. “Now sit down so I can finish up.”
That was true. His recklessness was certainly something only a Gryffindor would do. Maybe Gryffindors weren’t so different from Slytherins after all. That being said, he wouldn’t have put himself at risk for any other human on the planet. A true Gryffindor would play hero to anyone. He’s not that dumb. The core of his heroism was selfish. If Azalea was gone, so was his purpose.
Protecting her was protecting himself.
Even though her words made him doubt for a moment, he was still Slytherin to the core.

This little guy consumes thoughts, and he'd love to hear yours. Leave me a comment below or on any of my socials.
That's all today. The chapter wasn't very visually inspiring, though very emotionally dense, so I didn't have much to sketch about this time. See you on Monday!
Yesterday I updated my fanfiction with my usual pencil sketches, and the more I looked at one of the sketches, the more I realized that something was off. This is a post to say that it's okay to think something is finished but realize it isn't your best work. Many times I will go back and make little micro edits to my writing, but in this case it was my drawing that needed little edits. Here is the original:
Now. The more I looked at this, the more I realized that Draco in this picture looked too young. His eyes were too large. His expression a little off. And his shoulders were too slight. So I went back and made little adjustments. I also realized belatedly that Azalea's beauty mark was missing.
Here is the updated version. Small changes. A broadening of his shoulders. Thicker, more muscular arm. More dramatic blood on his face. More masculine features, with smaller eyes and a more complex expression. And of course, the missing beauty mark.
Much better. I can sleep now, knowing that I fixed it. Mistakes are part of the human experience. Small mistakes can be fixed.
:)
See you guys again on Friday.

Chapter 12: The Crush that Made a Broom Thief
"Draco." Zay ground to a dead stop, her face paling as she pulled his hand.
"Come on. We need to hurry back." Draco began to usher her along, not hearing the alarm in her voice, when he glanced back and registered her expression.
"What? What is it?" He turned and tried to glean anything from her face but it was twisting, her hands fluttering up near her ears as if she wished she could block the sound.
"Snatchers." She whispered, her voice trembling. "I'm trying to figure out where, but there are too many thoughts. People are panicking. It's so loud."
"What?" He gathered her in his arms and glanced around nervously. The mystery was soon solved when people came rushing from their left, bumping into him and jostling him so hard that he couldn't keep his hold on Zay.
Green flashes of curse magic filled the air and soon people were screaming and stampeding to escape. It happened so quickly he couldn't react and he was pushed by the crowd indiscriminately. They were headed to the end of the alley to find a safe spot to apparate away, but this area of the alley was narrow so it funneled the crowd together. He winced when someone stepped on his foot and that one second taking his eyes off of her was enough.
Azalea was gone.
There were too many bodies, and he was getting battered trying to fight the crowd.
"Zay!" He called in a frenzy. "AZALEA!"
Nothing. He couldn't hear her over the screams and yells of the bodies around him. She was probably incapacitated by the chaotic thoughts on top of the noise.
Maybe because she's a pureblood the Snatchers will leave her be and his worry was for nothing.
Draco's mouth went dry, his thoughts racing, the truth settling thickly on his mind.
If they knew of what she was capable of she would be the most valuable target in the alley. Azalea wasn't safe and he was trying to gaslight himself so that he could focus. He couldn't do anything with the way dread settled in his stomach like lead.
"AZALEA!" He tried again, pushing towards where he saw her last and nearly getting pushed off his feet in return.
Fighting the crowd wasn't working. He was likely to get crushed at this rate. His skin felt tender and bruised, his chest compressed. Air felt short, with his lungs crushed between bodies and unable to optimize. If he continued this way he might die and he had no doubts that the danger was reaching it's peak.
He could hear screams of people falling and getting crushed, and people yelling they couldn't breath as the bodies pressed in. But the rush didn't stop, the people in the back shoving forward to get further away from the Snatchers.
He hoped that Azalea wasn't one of the people pushed over. If he had a God, he would be praying.
Looking around, trying to form a coherent thought with low oxygen, he spotted a light pole to his right. People weren't thinking to get higher because they didn't want to be spotted by the Death Eaters or be an easier target for a stray curse. Instead they were still pushing, trying to get through the narrow entrance of the Three Broomsticks.
Desperate wizards and witches began to try to apparate but it was not the situation for it. Fear and panic made one of the apparaters fail. Blood sprayed on Draco from a bad splinching injury, the scream of the victim nearly blowing out his eardrum.
He had to get to high ground.
Lurching over, he twisted around a man who did his best to shove Draco back. A flailing woman scratched him with her nail. Now the crowd was panicking and throwing hexes and spells at each other to get by, desperate because of the crush, the flashing magic nearly blinding him. He barely managed to dodge a flying unknown spell, the magic crackling along his cheek, and finally got his hand around the cool metal of the light pole.
More wizards pushed by, hollering for their loved ones just like he had done, and they nearly jostled him free of the pole. His muscles burned but he gritted his teeth as he used his all strength to pull his way out of the crowd. The moment he was free was such a potent relief, like a pressure was off his chest. Stepping up onto the concrete block where the light was elevated he was able to see a good two heads above the crowd. The gap where he had been was filled in an instant by more bodies, the momentum knocking some poor sods off their feet.
Scanning the mayhem in a panic, all the relief he felt to be free drained from him. His heart pounded in his ears when he couldn't find her. Nausea bubbled up and he cursed himself for his loose grip.
She was right there.
He lost her.
All he had to do was keep hold of her and he couldn't manage that.

Hello! If you are a returning reader, welcome back! If you are new here, it's wonderful to have you grace me with your attention.
I'm August Song, and I'm an aspiring author and hobbyist fanfiction writer. Right now I am releasing a longform fanfiction named Malfoy's Mark, Draco's Obsession.
Here is what you can expect from this fic:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. And of course, here is the mandatory mechanical pencil sketch to set the mood. In my stubborn mission to be Ai free, I always sketch it by hand:
Have I snagged your interest yet? If not, that's okay. I have an excerpt from Chapter 11 for you to check out!
Chapter 11: Spiced Lamb, Ivory Keys and a Marble Chessboard
“Anything in your proximity has meaning to me.” He turned to her, straddling the bench, and looped his arms around her hips.
“...have you been working on your lines or something?” Breaking her out from the threat of tears, she burst out in a laugh. “If I didn’t trust that you meant every word, I’d think you are selling me something.”
“Selling you something? Why, my lady, I never.” A devilish smirk settled on his face, his eyes twinkling. “Only myself. If you are willing.”
“I don’t have money.” She retorted.
Ah, but she was beautiful. He had been captivated by her all day, but never before had been so free to explore it. Not only in their private location, far from school and responsibility, but in his mastery of the mind. Snape would never be any the wiser, and Zay couldn’t predict his thoughts. It was perfect.
“Hm. I have plenty. I’m rich, actually. I have a whole box full of money. Let’s just call it a loan.” Pushing upwards from his sitting position, he pressed his lips to hers. A sharp jolt of electricity pulled between them, their chemistry bubbling over. His breath hitched, every nerve ending zinging and his heart thudding in his ears. Instinct gripped his reasoning and he followed it, desiring nothing else but to be close to her.
He was supposed to be a gentleman.
The thought brought him pause.
At any other time he’d throw caution to the wind and deal with the fallout later, but this wasn’t a negotiable encounter. This was Azalea. He wanted to do everything right by her. And it wasn’t very chivalrous to get a girl alone by offering her a place to stay and then immediately attaching strings.
He pulled back, guilt weighing on him.
If she blamed him later, he would be devastated.
“Draco?” She asked through heavy lids and bleary eyes.
“Let’s go to bed.” Draco cleared his throat, adjusting his collar. Was it hard to breathe, or was he just frustrated?
“Okay.” She nodded, clutching on to his clothes so he could lead her like a baby duck. He walked her back to the main room and waited for her to let go.
“Zay…?” He didn’t want to remove her hand by force and instead looked at it in confusion.
“… aren’t you staying here?” She asked, furrowing her brow. “This is the master suite.”
“… no. I gave it to you. I will sleep in the guest room. I didn’t want you to be uncomfortable by forcing you to share space with me.” He waited for her to let go still and she refused, actually tightening her grip.
“So your plan was to leave me alone in an unfamiliar place?” Her wide green eyes beseeched him to take pity on her and he almost fell for it.
“You will be fine.” He asserted. “You are the most capable woman I know. Being alone won’t phase you.”
“...you truly plan on leaving me alone?” Anger was starting to flash forward. “After that kiss in the study, you are going to abandon me? Are you not attracted to me, or something? Is this relationship platonic?”
“What? No! I just didn’t want to assume anything.” His boyfriend senses were tingling and he realized he had to walk this back quickly to come out unscathed. “You are so attractive to me I think I am going to lose my mind. It’s just that I didn’t want you to feel obligated to do anything with me just because you are staying at my family vacation house.”
“You are an idiot.” She blurted. “A stupid dugbog. A brainless flobberworm.”
“A flobberworm?” He nearly took offense, but also knew not to let it rile him.
“I have never kissed someone out of obligation in my life.” She clarified. “I do these things because I like you, you dense man.”
Reaching forward, she gripped her hand harshly on his sweater and tugged him towards her, roughly pressing their mouths together so hard that their teeth clicked. Red hot attraction jolted through him, turning his skin to fire again.

Chapter 10: Broken But in the Wrong Way
Narcissa Malfoy was the perfect pureblood. The picture of magic nobility. And the worst fate for her would be to lose her prestige and name so she thought that Draco would be unhappy, even if he was safer. Perhaps to his mother he was sheltered since she did her best to protect him, but a majority of his trauma surrounded his interactions with his father and the Malfoy family traditions. While she gave him a safe haven from the abuse, it didn’t negate the consequences of his education as an heir.
Doing his best not to unsettle her, he offered a bitter smile.
“I’m not suffering at all.” He assured her.
“Narcissa?” The cool voice of his father sounded on the other side of the door, the door knob wiggling as he tried it. Draco’s stomach dropped, his entire body freezing up.
Now that he thought about it, he had taken a huge gamble by apparating directly into his mother’s study. Realistically, in his memories, his parents spent very little time together. It was why he didn’t think he would run into Lucius while trying to find his mother. But it was an oversight. They were still a married couple, and they still interacted to some extent. He could have popped in right in front of Lucius like a madman.
“Draco!” His mother hissed with a low voice so it couldn’t be heard through the door. “Hide!”
If he disapparated the noise would likely cue Lucius into an intruder. It would create a tough situation for his mother. It was best to hide until he could leave safely. He looked around, his eyes snagging on the curtains. Rushing over to the window, he stepped behind them and he pulled out his wand.
“Cave inimicum.” He said in a whisper so that it wouldn’t carry. The protective spell burst from his wand, concealing his presence.
“Why is the door locked?” Lucius wiggled the doorknob more. “Alohamora!”
The lock clicked open and he burst through the doors, looking around suspiciously.
“Why did you lock the door? Who were you talking to?” He stormed in, his head still swiveling.
“Was the door locked?” Narcissa blinked innocently. “I didn’t mean to. Maybe I bumped it when closing the door.”
“That can’t be. I heard you. You were talking to someone.” Lucius walked closer to where Draco was hiding, checking behind the desk.
“Who would I be talking to?” Sighing impatiently, Narcissa crossed her arms haughtily. “Honestly, Lucius. You are acting as if I am spying for the Order or something. I was just muttering to myself about the accounts for the Gala.”
Lucius changed course and headed towards the curtain, his hand outstretched. Draco tensed up, hoping his spell would hold.
Just the sight of his father reaching his direction made horrible memories push to the surface, cold sweat breaking out over his skin. Nausea churned in his belly, his mouth drying. In his chest his heart pounded, not in the good way it moved for Azalea, but instead like the frantic beat of a war drum. His breath came in short bursts, his vision narrowing.
The spell had to hold or else he would be sunk. It was concealing even the sound of his panic. If his father found him... he didn't want to imagine the consequences of it.
“Lucius!” Narcissa raised her voice which was unusual for her. Her husband froze, understanding the tone. “If you came in here just to accuse me, you might as well leave. I won’t be disrespected in this way.”
“… no one is truly here?” His hand dropped before it reached the curtain, his eyes scanning the room one last time.
“Of course not. Who would be dumb enough to break into Malfoy Manor? Knowing that it is used as a base for Death Eaters? And if I were to betray you, I wouldn’t do it directly under your nose. There are plenty of times you are away that I could meet someone if I so chose. I am not stupid.” As if she weren’t casually speaking of an affair, she stepped forward and cooly looped her arm though his, directing her husband towards the door. “Stop being so prickly. Let’s go have a walk before supper.”
“If you insist.” Lucius agreed, his voice tight.
Draco waited, his throat and his fists clenched, as he heard the click of his Father’s cane fading away the further Narcissa took him.
He had to calm down. Apparating now was a bad idea because of his chaotic mind. If he risked it he might end up splinching.
Doubling over, he gagged, his entire body trembling.
Calm. He needed calm. How could he break this impending panic attack? There wasn’t time for it.

Hi there! If you are returning, welcome! If you are new here, it's wonderful to meet you. I'm August Song, and I'm an aspiring author and hobbyist fanfiction writer.
My fanfiction, Malfoy's Mark, is currently in the process of posting. And you are in luck, I just posted the newest chapter!
Here is what to expect from this series:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. As he tries to figure out what's left without a family legacy, he meets a girl who changes everything. Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
In this chapter, Draco continues his lessons with Snape, making progress. Azalea reveals a hidden insecurity of hers that Draco is sure to quickly address. Every little motion brings them closer, the chemistry between them bubbling. But Draco is determined to be good. At least for now.
Here is the mandatory mechanical pencil sketch:
And of course, a preview of the chapter!
Chapter 9: Matching Dark Marks with Initials and Hearts
Draco settled the broom horizontally, keeping it from drifting. Leaning forward, he inspected the ground. In his fun he had lost track of his altitude, and he saw now that he had ascended further up than he intended. Azalea was a small figure on the grassy field from this height but he could still tell that she was busy pruning a plant. But he couldn’t really discern what plant it was since they all looked the same to him even up close.
It was strange to see her like this. Usually he was right beside her, admiring her from up close. Now she was so small, like he could hold her in his palm.
He wondered if he was out of her range for hearing thoughts.
I love you, Zay. He thought, testing it. She didn’t turn to look at him.
I love you so much it’s frightening. Draco continued, pausing his thoughts to observe. She continued to work. Draco considered if she was just not showing much a reaction, refusing to play his childish little game.
Time to be more shocking. She never fails to react when he thinks dirty things. If she didn’t even respond to this line of thought, she was truly too far away.
I want nothing more than to lose myself in you, marking you with me. I want to make you completely mine in every way.
He paused, waiting for her to turn to him with scandalized shock.
Nothing.
She truly was out of range.
Draco sighed in disappointment, realizing just how much he enjoyed teasing her. Suddenly his freeing moment in the air felt rather lonely. It would have felt less torturous if he could still talk to her through his thoughts, but now that he knew she wasn’t hearing him at all he felt a desperation to close the gap.
Dipping the handle of the broom down, he descended, aiming for the area behind where Zay worked. Once on the ground, he took the few strides forward to engulf her from behind. Wrapping his arms around her shoulders, he pressed close to her and nuzzled into her neck. She smelled so nice, fresh like pine and flowers.
“Draco?” She placed her hand over his arm and leaned back into him, trying to turn her head so she could see him.
“Can’t you fly with me? It’s lonely without you.” He whined like the spoiled heir he was. But she couldn’t hold it against him and just chuckled, finding his behavior cute.
“I’m not much of an athlete.” She admitted. “You won’t find me on a broomstick.”
“Which is why you will fly with me.” He released her and grabbed her hand.
“With you? As in, you want me to fly on the broom? Now?” Her green eyes grew very large.
“What else does it mean?” Draco held out his hand and summoned his broomstick back. He didn’t even have to give it a verbal command as the broom was used to him. Putting it between his legs, he tugged her closer.
“Oh, uh… I don’t know.” She appeared a little nervous. It was adorable, and the mischief inside of Draco pushed him to force the matter. Considering she had been climbing up into the boathouse roof to save a bundimun, he didn’t think she was scared of heights so he felt comfortable with the assertion.
“Come on, Zay. You’re safe with me.”
His earnest plea melted her and she nodded, climbing on behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Like this…?” She asked meekly. “I’ve never ridden two to a broom before.”
“Me neither.” Draco impishly admitted before decisively kicking off the ground. The broom lifted and he pulled back on the stick quickly, aiming it higher before she could protest more.
“...what?” She squeaked, holding him tighter.
“Surely you can’t be frightened.” Draco laughed. “You’re hardly frightened of anything. I saw you jump from the top of the boathouse.”
“That’s not true.” Azalea returned in a small voice. “I’m afraid of things.”
“Oh, really?” He playfully asked. “What could the great Azalea Carrow possibly be afraid of? You have endured torment, bullying, and torture and hardly batted an eye.”
“I’m afraid of losing you.” She whispered by his ear, her voice shaking.
Draco was taken by surprise and jolted the broom to a halt.

Here is a summary of what to expect:

Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
In this chapter, Draco grapples with a past he buried deep within, wondering if he's even worthy of love. Meanwhile, Azalea faces her Uncle once more.
Here are the mandatory pencil sketches for the chapter.
And here is a preview of the chapter:
Chapter 8: Puppet Master of Cruelty
Draco ripped away from his dreams with a gasp, snapping away from the terrible memory. His whole body was covered by cold sweat, his heart racing.
“Damn it.” He cursed.
He knew it.
He knew that he would have that particular traumatic dream as soon as Blaise brought up his experience with women. While Draco tried his best to avoid it, it was inevitable.
The face of the woman with the bright hair and fake eyelashes flashed in his mind and turned his stomach. He scrambled from bed, staggering through the room, before roughly opening the bathroom door and stumbling inside. Falling to his knees, his stomach purged into the toilet.
In his mind he could still feel her claw like hands touching him. Stripping him. He could hear her worn voice, and see her rat like grin.
Again his stomach turned and he wretched, every nerve on his skin prickling with disgust from the residual memories.
“Draco…?” The groggy voice of Theodore drew his attention, and he looked up weakly from the toilet to see the boy at the door, sleepily rubbing his eyes. It was early enough that Blaise and Bonson were still asleep, dawn yet on the horizon. But Theodore must have heard him.
“Are you okay?” The boy asked, realizing that Draco had just vomited.
“… I’m fine. I just ate something off, is all. I’ll be out in a moment.”
He ran a hand over his face, wiping away the cold sweat, and sighed, trying desperately to get his mind together.
“...if you say so.” Theodore turned to go back to bed, sending one more worried glance over his shoulder. Draco sat there by the toilet for a while, trying to bury his memories once more. They were better six feet under.
What if Azalea had seen his dream? What would she think of him?
Dread worked in and he curled into a little ball. Just the memory made him feel so defiled and so unworthy of her. And so small. Smaller than the little boy that was locked in the room with a money hungry predator.
He sat like that for nearly an hour before getting up and getting dressed. It was still long before the others were awake. Theodore had gone back to bed, which was for the better.
Draco really didn’t want to talk about it.
Classes were unbearably slow but uncomfortably fast. While he wanted to do anything else but be in class, he also wasn’t ready to face Azalea. And Potions class approached which meant she would be there.
He thought he might skip class and avoid her entirely. Draco was enough of a coward that the option passed over his thoughts enticingly. She might have seen his dream, which was humiliating in itself, and at the very least she could read his thoughts.
But when he arrived at the class and saw her small form and smooth hair from the back, he could only feel a profound sense of relief. As if he was always meant to be beside her. All of the shame and fear he felt before walking in the room faded as if it had never existed.
Stalking forward without worry, as if he wasn’t a mess just moments before, he walked up to the chair and took a seat.
“Heyyy, Zay.” Draco awkwardly began, searching her face for any signs of pity or disgust. If she saw his dream, or memory, there would be no doubt she’d have a reaction to it.
“Why do you sound so weird?” Frowning, she searched his face, reading his mind. It didn’t look like she saw any shocking thoughts. Success.
“Did you… uh… see my dream last night, per chance?”
“Did you have another dirty dream?” She grinned. Draco didn’t have the heart to tell her that it kind of was, but in the worst way.
“That didn’t answer my question.” He softly replied, not joking back. The lack of reciprocation to her teasing made her smile fall, worry creasing her brow.

Chapter 7: Icy and Welcoming Inky Waters
Azalea was already in motion, pushing up from her chair and leaping across Draco’s lap. Just as Pansy tilted forward to dump the potion, Azalea hit it with her palm and splashed it backwards. It went all over Pansy’s shirt and face.
Pansy stood there in shock, her eyes wide. But oddly she didn’t react beyond that, keeping her mouth pressed tightly, her pug like face especially flat as she tried not to breathe.
“Azalea!” Hestia hissed in shock, ready to reach out and grab her cousin for her interference.
But Azalea was furious for some reason, and it cowed Draco who was confused by the entire encounter. He had never seen her so mad, and he didn’t feel he knew enough about the situation to speak up. So instead he watched with astonishment as Azalea tossed Hestia’s grip off and launched forward, her dominant hand stretching out to grasp Pansy’s cheeks. She squeezed her fingers on the girl’s face to try to force her mouth open, making her lips pucker like a fish.
“Why won’t you let it get in your mouth, Pansy?” Azalea hissed, her glare like green fire. “You were about to toss this potion on Draco.”
“Get off of her!” Flora tried to help Pansy. She grabbed at Azalea who shrugged her off violently, the thin girl tumbling over into some desk chairs.
“Flora!” Hestia rushed over to help her twin.
“Zay, maybe-” Draco stood up, putting his hands up in a soothing way like he was trying to tame a dragon. But his words were cut off as she continued to berate Pansy.
“Come on, Pansy. Why don’t you taste it?” Azalea crooned, squeezing her face tighter. “Or are you afraid because you were about to splash a Drought of Living Death on Draco?”
“...what?” Now completely horrified, Draco’s jaw dropped as he looked to Pansy who was turning bright red in an effort not to open her mouth.
“She’s going to make her eat it!” Millicent cried, trying to get between Azalea and Pansy. The boxy toad shaped girl was more successful than the slight Flora and jarred Azalea’s grip, which slipped on the slick potion. Azalea turned to the interfering girl with fire in her gaze as Pansy frantically swiped her robe sleeve over her face to clear any residue.
Instead of letting it go and going back to her seat, Azalea was too upset.
“Stay out of this.” She snapped at Millicent, holding up her hand, slick with potion. “Before I stick my hand in your mouth and make you taste it too.”
But their authority was challenged, and they weren’t about to be idle while they were embarrassed. Millicent tried to slap Azalea for her defiance but Azalea could read her moves. She stepped to the side, dodging the hit, and used Millicent’s motion against her. With a swift kick to her butt, the stout girl catapulted over with great force. Her hefty body slammed through desks, the loud banging and scraping of the furniture filling the room. Other students scrambled out of the way, trying their best to avoid the chaos.
Draco watched in astonishment, unsure of who to help, Azalea or the bullies.
“Are you mad?!” Pansy finally screeched, spitting potion from her lips and paling when she realized she didn’t get it all.
“No, you must be mad!” Azalea turned on the girl, poking her roughly in the chest. “Your potion brewing skills are remedial at best, and you dared to brew a potion like that and splash it on someone!? If you made one wrong mistake, you could have killed him!”
It was true. He could have died. Draco realized what Azalea had intercepted, and why she was so mad. A Draught of Living Death was nothing to scoff at. It was designed to bring the drinker to a state so close to death it was indistinguishable, and one misstep could make it a fatal poison. Not only did it stand on the precipice of being fatal, it was one of the most difficult to brew so it was easy to ruin.
Likely the group of girls thought to dump it on Draco, mocking him for his expulsion from high society. The Drought would have been symbolic, showcasing how Draco was alive but basically dead to them. They had thought it was a witty way to terrorize him, and didn’t care if it did damage.
But Azalea caught their thoughts before they got too close.
“How did you know I brewed it?” Pansy stammered, her hand tightening on the empty phial.
“Does it matter?” Azalea narrowed her eyes. “I wouldn’t trust any one of you to brew a potion to cure acne, much less one that dangles on the precipice of death. You all share a single braincell.”
“Say that again, you bloody reject!” Pansy tossed the vial to the ground, the glass shattering, before pulling out her wand. She tried casting Stupify at Azalea. Azalea stepped to the side and dodged the cast easily, having already read the move, but couldn’t dodge Millicent also charging her way with blood on her forehead. There was no time to avoid both.
“Zay…!” Draco started to step forward, realizing that the conflict was about to escalate. Unlike before where he was sure it was best to just allow Azalea to vent her anger, now her safety was at risk. He was ready to pull her behind him and protect her from the conflict, but a loud booming voice fell over the class.
“Arresto Momentum!” All of the girls froze in place at the call.

Now on to the preview:
Chapter 6: Silence in Solidarity
As he watched her run, his heart thudded in his chest, anxiety bubbling.
No, no, no. He thought, his hand trembling on his wand. What if things went wrong? What if there were dementors… or centaurs?
She stopped suddenly and Draco nearly crashed into her.
“Zay! You can’t run off like–” He huffed, nearly in tears.
“Shh!” Azalea covered his mouth. “Look!”
He followed her eyes and realized that there was a huge creature taking refuge under the shade of a big tree, curled into a ball. The feathers glistening in the golden afternoon sun were unmistakable. Memories of the beast that had attacked him in his third year of school flashed in his mind.
Draco let out a muffled cry of alarm under her hand.
A hippogriff.
Like Buckbeak.
He regretted the entire encounter now. Animals just didn’t like him, and he knew that before approaching the thing. But he was so desperate to show up Potter that he thought he could force the creature to comply. His arrogance did him no favors, and he learned a quick lesson in the power of creatures. His father was not forgiving, and no matter how he tried to persuade Lucius to let it go because he was ashamed, the creature was still slated for execution. Draco was embarrassed as he was injured in front of the entire class, but he didn’t want the creature dead for it. And making a bigger deal out of it was even more embarrassing in the end.
“A hippogriff…” He muttered, his heart thudding in his throat. One wrong move and the beast would break an arm. Or worse.
“It’s injured.” Azalea explained, her eyes watching it thoughtfully.
That would explain the metallic hint of blood in the air. He thought it was just the Dark Forest aesthetic.
The last thing he wanted to do was approach the thing. Especially not now that he knew it was wounded. Wounded animals fight the fiercest and are always on guard.
But Azalea was not like him. She stepped towards it, outside of the tree cover they had found, and put her hands up cautiously.
“Zay!” He whispered furiously. She didn’t listen. “Azalea Carrow!”
“It’s okay.” She crooned at the beast. “We won’t hurt you.”
The hippogriff spied her and pulled out of his curled up position, his head arching back to showcase his big sharp beak. Now that he had stretched out a bit, Draco could see that he was dark in color. A truly unique beast, with deep feathers and a patch of grey around his eyes like a mask.
And his beak was dangerously sharp.
“It’s dangerous!” He tried again, reaching out to grab Azalea, his hands shaking. But she was too far.
It chittered, clacking its massive beak menacingly. All the hair stood up on Draco’s neck and arms and he was sure in that moment that Azalea was going to be bird food.
Near enough to the creature, she dipped into a polite, well bred curtsy. It was not often that she showcased her impeccable pedigree, and Draco remembered that she was a pureblood just as he was even if she grew up an outcast. Just having the coveted sacred name of an old family meant that they had to present well, so even the rejected family members learn etiquette.
The bird watched her carefully, tilting its head this way and that, before finally dipping his head in return to her in acceptance.
“That’s the way.” She smiled with relief, approaching cautiously. “I’m not here to hurt you more, I swear. I just want to know what happened. Are you injured?”
The beast clicked its beak, as if it understood her questions, and stretched out it’s foot. There was a huge laceration over its talons, nearly to the bone and almost severing a digit. Blood oozed around it and it looked like it had lots of dirt trapped in the mangled flesh.
“Oh my. That looks quite bad.” She offered it a gentle smile. “You look to be a juvenile. It’s too late in the year for mating, and about time for a hippogriff calf to leave the herd. I bet you ran right into the territory of a big male and got chased out. That’s why you are on the outskirts of the forest, right?”
Draco watched in astonishment as the creature snorted indignantly and looked away from her, as if insulted.
“Can I help you?” Azalea pulled out her wand. The moment he saw it the Hippogriff became angry and snapped his large beak at her, nearly catching her arm. Alarmed and on edge Draco rushed into action, lurching forward out of the hiding spot to grab her, pulling her into his body and away from the creature. The beast saw him and squawked, rearing back to strike at them again.
“Draco!” She chastised. “You can’t rush at a hippogriff like that!”
“He was going to bite you!” Draco held out his wand defensively, which was the wrong move because fury lit the birds gaze.
“No!” Azalea held her small hand up and Draco thought about turning to put his body between her and the hippogriff because she was freely offering fingers for hippogriff snacks.
“Bad!” She told the beast. “Don’t snap at Draco! He’s important to me!”
The hippogriff heard her words and froze, glancing between them suspiciously.
“Draco.” She muttered through gritted teeth. “Bow to him.”
“What? No. It doesn’t matter. Beasts don’t like me to begin with.”
His refusal for respect angered the bird who puffed its feathers, ready to attempt another strike.
“Can you just learn to humble yourself a little bit?!” Azalea snapped. “There’s a method to these things. Show the hippogriff respect or he’ll never like you!”

!!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!!
This chapter contains trauma, child abuse, mentions of torture, PTSD and imprisonment. This is a content warning, so if you are uncomfortable with this, please take care of your own health.
Now, on to the mandatory mechanical pencil sketch for the chapter. I sketch them all out by hand with a mechanical pencil, printer paper, and a reckless disregard for Ai. This time I had a lot of visual inspiration that I wanted to capture, so there are TWO BONUS SKETCHES.
Have the pictures got you interested? If they haven't, that's okay. I have an excerpt of the chapter for your enjoyment!
Chapter 5: Unimpressive and Ordinary Red Ooze
“Now.” Lucius turned to his son, turning his cane in hand thoughtfully. He purposefully stepped out and crushed the rest of the cookie under his expensive mooncalf leather shoes, just to taunt him. “Draco, I’m sure you’ve had plenty of time to think in the dungeon. How is life without the privilege of a room?”
Draco didn’t say anything, just stared down at the crumbled biscuits with a blank expression. There was no point in pretending that he changed his mind. He couldn’t do what the Dark Lord demanded. He wasn’t the son Lucius wanted. So he chose to just stay quiet.
“Tell me. Will you finally give your devotion to the Dark Lord? He’s very angry that you failed to kill Dumbledore, but because Dumbledore died in the end he’s willing to forgive. You might have to kill a few mudbloods to show your loyalty, but that’s the cost of your defiance.”
Dumbledore… died?
Then why was he still there?
Lucius’ cold stare bored into Draco and he swallowed thickly. But still he was quiet, refusing to give Lucius even the courtesy of his words or gaze.
“LOOK AT ME BOY!” Lucius reached out and grabbed him by his collar, forcing him to lock grey eyes with his father. “Will. You. Give. Your. Service?!”
Ah. It was because Lucius couldn’t forgive Draco’s lack of filial subordination. That’s why he was still there.
Draco wanted to spit in his face but controlled himself, instead narrowing his eyes and sending a fiery glare. He opened his dry mouth, flickering his tongue over his lips to whet them so he could talk.
“I won’t. I don’t want to kill people. For what? For some Dark Wizard that wants to control the world? He can do that without me. Why should I have to help him?” Draco gritted his teeth in anger as he spoke. “I’m still attending Hogwarts. Is he so weak he can’t succeed without the help of a schoolboy?”
Lucius released his collar and then whipped his hand out, striking the back of his hand across Draco’s face. Draco was too weak to keep his balance and tottered with the force, falling to the ground. His teeth had cut into his cheek and the metallic taste of blood filled his mouth.
“If you were front of the Dark Lord, he would have killed you on the spot, you foolish boy!” Lucius boomed, pointing an accusatory finger at Draco as if he was the one who made Lucius violent. “Your arrogance will be your ruin! All you need to do is put aside your pride and kill a few mudbloods! That’s all!”
Draco spit out the fluid in his mouth, blood and saliva dribbling from his lips onto the floor. It looked normal. Like everyday blood. He was supposed to be a pureblood. Of the Sacred 28. And yet his blood didn’t look special. Just pathetic red ooze. Humans, even if they were magical, were just fleshy blood bags. And he was no different.
His mind flashed back to his near death experience, where Harry had cursed him with Sectumsempra and he was bleeding out on the bathroom floor. At that time, he had similar thoughts. It was the first time he had diverted from the rhetoric, his mind so foggy with blood loss that he lost all of his brainwashing and pureblood pride. Instead he just stared at the pools of red growing beneath him with a morbid fascination, fueled by his body’s shock.
The blood was normal. The same blood that anyone bled.
Unable to handle the direction his thoughts turned again, Draco began to laugh. Even the blood he spit was the same blood as before. The same blood he saw on the stone floor after fighting with Harry.
Unimpressive and ordinary.
It was manic, his laughter, as he giggled on the ground. He wasn’t sure exactly what as funny, but all he could do now was find humor in the darkness.
“Don’t mock me, Draco!” Lucius pointed his cane threateningly at his son. “Just take my compromise. I will round up some squibs for you. You just need to take the shot!”
“How can I not mock you when you make it so easy? Look, Father.” He stopped trying to get up, just smiling widely with bloody gums at his father from the floor while he wiped his lips. “See this blood? This damn “pure blood” you spilled? It isn’t glowing. It isn’t golden, or twinkling. It is just gross, spitty blood. We aren’t special. You aren’t special. The moment I didn’t toe the line, your precious Dark Lord cast you aside along with me. And the irony of it is that I’ll bet he bleeds the same as the rest of us too.”
As he spoke, Lucius’ mouth dropped in horror before his face twisted to anger.
“You… SHUT YOUR BLOODY MOUTH YOU DISRESPECTFUL LITTLE VERMIN!” Lost to his emotions, he gripped the handle of his cane and pulled his wand free, pointing it at Draco.
“What are you going to do, Father? Torture me? Maim me? For what? Bleeding wrong?” Draco’s red teeth peeked through his smirking lips, his eyes curving in an impish manner.
“I’m doing this for your own good!” He reiterated, as if he was convincing himself. “Crucio!”

Hello everyone! If you are a returning reader, good news! Chapter 4 of Malfoy's Mark: Draco's Obsession is now up and ready for your eager eyes.
If you are new here, welcome! I am so pleased to have the stage. My name is August Song, and I am an aspiring author and hobbyist fanfiction writer. I am currently in the midst of releasing my newest fanfiction, which has just updated!
Here is a Summary of what to expect from this work:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. As he tries to figure out what's left without a family legacy, he meets a girl who changes everything. Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
In this chapter, Draco remembers how he met Azalea at last. Azalea is pleased that he knows the truth, so she entrusts him with another of her dearest secrets. Now that they are closer, she feels comfortable sharing her hobbies and her vision for the future.
Here is a little mechanical pencil drawing I did for the title card. I made it by hand because as a creator I always promise to forsake the use of AI.
Now, here's a preview of the chapter!
Chapter 4: Nostalgic Lullabies and the Secret Meadow
"Draco!" A weight slammed into his back, and her arms wrapped around his shoulders while her legs wrapped around his hips.
"Zay?!" He gasped, startled and reaching for his wand before registering what was happening. Not quite getting down even after her suprise attack, she remained perched on his back.
"Quick, I'm slipping!" She complained.
Flustered, he reached back and looped his hands under her thighs to keep her aloft. The proximity of her body to his sent him into shutdown, his mind no longer thinking as he tried to get a grasp on reality.
Merlin, she was so soft against his back. Just the sensation shorted him out like a robot splashed with water.
"Draco?" She asked, concerned that she was getting no thought signals from him.
"O-oh. Right." He tried to do anything else but focus on how she felt under his palm. He had barely avoided thinking too deeply about what was pressed against his mid back. If he got too lost in his teenage hormones she would hear it.
"To what do I owe this surprise attack?" He nervously asked through a tight throat.
"You remembered!" Azalea laughed, squeezing his shoulders tightly in a hug. "I didn't think my hint would be enough, but you dreamed about me! You remembered how we met!"
"So you climbed on my back like a Clabbert?" He dryly returned, trying to use sarcasm to mask his internal chaos.
"I just wanted to." She grumbled, resting her forehead on his shoulder in embarrassment. "Sorry if this is too forward."
"Hmmm. Well, if you were anyone else, I would begin to complain about my status and how using me as a steed is a direct affront to my father and the Malfoy name..." He began.
"Yes. Well." Zay haughtily replied, holding him tighter in retaliation. "I am of the same blood status as you are, so you can't use that against me."
"Which is why I have decided to give you a free pass to use me as your own personal Abraxan today." He sassily returned. "Now, where shall I take thee, m'lady?"
"Hmm. I didn't think that far." Azalea rested her chin on his wide shoulder so she could look ahead, her cheek puffed out in thought. It took all of his willpower not to turn his face towards her and kiss her. That thought caught her attention and her gaze darted towards him before she flushed.
"U-uh… towards Hagrid's Hut, if you will." She squeaked.
The adorable reaction left him in a good mood so he chuckled, adjusting his grip on her so they could travel.
"Alright. Towards the Hut it is." He agreed, beginning their journey. It wasn't hard at all to carry her because she was quite light, so he barely noticed the extra weight. It also helped that he was pretty fit, having been a Quidditch Player up until last year, and he had rows of muscles under his robes.
"You really don't have to carry me. I was just playing around. I can walk." She tried, but he kept his hold on her.
"No. This is kind of fun in it's own way. Besides, you have a habit of slipping away when you don't want to talk anymore and I have lots to ask. Isn't this an efficient way of keeping you hostage?" His tone was playful, but he was partially serious.
"Well then. What do you want to ask me?" She settled into her position on his back, her cheek against his ear. Still he battled with the sensation of her warmth against him and it almost broke his teenage control but he did his best to remain focused, sure to keep a tight grip on what thoughts were allowed to enter his brain space. While watching her get flustered over his thoughts was fun, he wanted her to be comfortable to talk with him.
"Did you help me because of what happened in the closet? It wasn't like I did anything worth paying me back for. Besides, you didn't try to reach out to me before this year, so surely it wasn't that impactful?"
It was a question that had been nagging at him. While he was glad they shared a memory as children, he himself almost forgot about it. It was really only a few minutes shared in an armoire, nothing to hold on to for years.
"It might seem unimportant to you, but it was really special to me." She grumbled, pouting at his indifference. "Everyone always tried to make the voices louder. They only cared about how powerful my ability could become, not how uncomfortable it made me. You were the first one who tried to block the voices out. You didn't know that I was a Legilimens at the time, but you still tried. I was really grateful to you for that, you know."
"Then why did you avoid me all these years? You saw me on the train and you almost turned and ran away. We wouldn't have even crossed paths if you weren't running from the other girls." It was a valid question. He recalled the moment of hesitation when she saw him, and the desire to flee flashing over her face.
"Well. I can read minds, remember?" She dryly returned. "I wanted to talk to you again when we were sorted, but I read what you were thinking. I apologize for being so frank, but the way you acted and thought until recently wasn't in line with my values. You were not the kid I met in the armoire anymore."
"… I can't fault you for that." He sighed, realizing how deeply he had fallen into the pureblood brainwashing.
"When we met again on the train, I realized you were different. I didn't pry too much into your mind, because I didn't want to intrude, so I don't know the details. But I could tell you were back to the boy I met all those years ago. So I roamed the train, gathering thoughts, and realized you were in danger from many of the blood purist Slytherins. I chose the boys who were accepting of your decisions and asked Headmaster Snape to change your room arrangements, as you know."
"But why would he help? Isn't he loyal to the Dark Lord? Didn't he kill Dumbledore?" Draco was still struggling with his unsolicited advice from the night before.
"I told you I'm a Prefect because I gather secrets. Despite Professor Snape's dubious allegiances, he is still responsible for the smooth operation of the school. I am supposed to alert him if I hear any thoughts that could be problematic. I'm unsure of how he found out about my abilities, but he approached me after Dumbledore's funeral and struck a deal with me for his silence. But as for his true loyalties… I can't be sure. I can't really read his mind." Azalea frowned at that, her brows pulling together in thought.
"Is that possible?" Draco's own brows shot up in surprise. "I thought you couldn't help but to read thoughts?"
"Well, sure, it's possible. It's just rare. There's a technique called Occlumency. If one has the aptitude for it they can defend their mind from outside influences like Legilimency. I'm sure Professor Snape knows it well, and he uses it whenever I'm near because he knows what I am capable of." Azalea sighed wistfully. "I wish everyone knew Occlumency. It would make things much more quiet."

Lastly, I am trying to get as much of a social following as I can as an author, so please reblog and share my work. If I can get enough people interested, maybe one day I can get published!
This chapter is much lighter than previous chapters have been, and features a lot of fluff between our two leads. But that's okay, because we all secretly enjoy a little lighthearted banter.
For those new here, this what to expect from Malfoy's Mark: Draco's Obsession:
Draco Malfoy finally reached the limits of his morality. When asked to kill Dumbledore he found himself hesitating, which was a choice that changed his life. Draco's parents were forced to disown him to protect him from Voldemort's wrath, leaving him homeless as he begins his final year at Hogwarts. Follow Draco through a journey of self reflection, true friendship, growth, and obsession as he struggles to survive in a world without the protection of his title.
In this chapter Draco meets Azalea at the boathouse and confirms his suspicions, having his first real conversation with her. He becomes her secret keeper, which only solidifies their bond.
I did an extra bonus sketch for this chapter because I couldn't decide what I wanted to draw more, check it out! These are made with mechanical pencil, just to spite Ai. In fact, as an artist and author you can always expect for me to be free of Ai use.
Now for a preview!
Chapter 3: Fallen Angel from the Rafters
“Looking for me?” Her voice startled him and he gasped, turning suddenly to what he thought was the source. But still nothing. Furrowing his brow, he wondered if he was crazy.
“Look up.” She laughed.
He did just that, tilting his head up. She sat on one of the ceiling beams, her feet dangling over the edge as she looked down at him.
“What are you doing up there?” Draco asked, his jaw falling with shock.
“Oh. I was waiting for you patiently. I was, I swear. But then I heard a bundimun. So I climbed up here to convince him to leave before the Professors came and killed it.” She patted dust from her robe.
“Did it… leave?” He asked, dumbfounded.
“Well, sure. It didn’t want to, though. There is a lot of dust and dirt in here. Perfect conditions for it, really.”
While Draco really wanted to know just how she convinced a bundimun to do anything, he was growing increasingly nervous by how high she was. If she slipped and fell she could be seriously harmed. Usually he would let people do what they wanted to without sparing a thought for their wellbeing, but because it was her he felt vastly different. Just imagining her being injured sent a stab of pain to his heart.
“It’s dangerous to stay up there.” He coaxed, pulling out his wand. “Jump down so we can talk. I’ll slow your momentum and catch you.”
“I climb up into high places all the time.” Azalea snorted. “I’ll be just fine on my own.”
“Please.” He blurted. It was unusual for him. He was usually too proud to plead for anything. But the anxiety he felt was growing in intensity by the second. “Please, I’d really feel much better if you are safely on the ground.”
“...alright.” She knew what he intended to do, so she trusted him to catch her fall. Without even bracing herself, she slid off the beam and fell.
“Arresto Momentum!” He flicked the pattern for the spell, the magic hitting her perfectly and slowing her down just as he intended. Now that he bought time, he tucked the wand back into it’s wand pocket and stepped forward to be more directly under her. And as he stepped forward, he got a really good view of her as she fell.
Her shiny dark brunette hair fluttered upwards despite the slowed motion, the green streak blending in in the dim lighting. With the descent her robes blew backwards, revealing the curvaceous and sexy figure he knew she was hiding, her shapely legs reaching for the floor with her delicate arms spread wide. Her long lashes shadowed her cheeks as she locked eyes on the ground, shielding her stunning irises.
Draco didn’t know he had a type, but he knew that Azalea was it.
Holding his arms out, he waited a few more seconds for her to descend, her body falling gently into his grasp. With the slow descent he didn’t even feel the change in weight, easily able to hold her small body aloft.
“Gotcha.” He puffed with relief into her hair. She smelled like spring. Like jasmine and pine, freshly bloomed for the change in season.
And Merlin did she feel good beside him. Her soft, warm body truly made him feel both complete, as if she were meant for his arms, and antsy as if he had to pull her closer. Briefly his mind flashed over the scandalous dream he had had.
“Draco!” She gasped, pulling back. And he saw that her face was a lovely shade of pink.
“Oh. Sorry.” He blushed in response, realizing she might have had a front row seat to his mind.
“You…” Azalea cleared her throat, glancing away from him. “You said you knew my secret. I need you to tell me exactly what you know.”
He could play with her and send thoughts only, but he really didn’t know the parameters of her talent. There was also a desire to show respect to her, so he approached it in the most cooperative way possible.
“I think… you are a Legilimens.” He admitted.
She stared at him with her enticing green eyes, the unreal color probing into him as she pondered what he said.
“You think, or you know?” Azalea finally clarified.

I've decided to post some of the earliest comics I did of my characters! While I am mostly focusing on writing for this blog, I do have my little mascots that I reference on occasion. A long time ago I thought about starting a webcomic, but with school and life it was too much for me. The characters never went away, which is why they showed up here. Instead, enjoy the little comic strips that are just a sliver of the past now. I will be posting the next chapter of Malfoy's Mark on Friday, according to plan, with a sketch!
P.S. This is where you can currently find my fanfictions. I am working on building a community to eventually introduce my own original content. I would love if you would join me!

Well, looks like it's Monday again! Which means a whole new update for Malfoy's Mark!
And boy was it a struggle bus!
I am pretty attached to the concept of having an Explicit version on Ao3 and a Mature version on FF.net, so I try to post simultaneously. But FF.net has been an absolute nightmare for me recently. The traffic metrics aren't working, and the document submission is glitching and giving me an error message. I had to message support... which sucks. But I also managed to get it to finally work by spamming the submit button until my desperation made it feel bad for resisting me.
Anyways, each chapter submission has been taking me hours between edits and fighting the website. But I am determined to keep my update schedule!
Now, back to the star of the show, the new chapter!
Here's what to expect from Malfoy's Mark: Draco's Obsession:

And of course, I made a sketch just for you guys! With a mechanical pencil. Just to spite AI.
Now, let's get to it! As usual, I'm going to post a snippet of the chapter so everyone can get a taste for it!
Chapter 2: The Most Painful Backstab of Endless Summer
Ending up at the dorm he was assigned, he hesitated at the door. It felt ominous and oppressive, a wave of anxiety filling him as he realized that he had no idea what truly stood behind it. Draco swallowed thickly, trying to ignore his cowardly instinct to turn around and hide.
The girl did say that she arranged an easier arrangement... but would any arrangement truly be easy in the Slytherin dorms? Every Slytherin knew of his exile from high society, and they likely saw him as an easy target.
But…
If he ran he would lose any last remaining pride he had as a Malfoy. There was little left of the prideful prince he used to be, but he wanted to at least keep whatever little sliver of self-respect he had managed to hold onto. Steeling himself, he opened the door and peeked his head in.
“There you are, Draco!” A soft voice drew his attention.
It was a voice he knew well. Theodore Nott.
“Took you long enough.” Blaise Zabini droned, his arms cockily folded behind his neck as he lounged, looking at the door where Draco stood with lazy eyes.
“We thought you got caught up by Crabbe and Goyle. They were ranting about trying to teach you a lesson.” Bonson Pike, the last of the roommates, kicked his legs over the side of his four poster bed and explained further. “But I was hoping you’d be clever enough to give them the slip.”
“We might have gone to check on you if you took much longer.” Blaise yawned. “Maybe.”
Draco could only stay frozen at the doorway, floored by the reception. His bags were firmly in the middle of the room, ready for him to retrieve.
“Oh, your bags?” Theo calmly followed his gaze. “We saw some guys trying to get into your suitcase earlier, so we charmed them. Let me release the charm.”
He took out his wand and broke the protective shield, the magic flickering away.
“I… don’t understand.” Furrowing his brow, Draco cautiously stepped inside, the door closing behind him.
“I get what you mean. It’s weird.” Blaise droned in a monotone voice, now not even looking Draco’s way. “We’ve never had this combination of guys in a room together before. Not without some third wheel to kill the mood. But once we got here we started chatting and found we were shockingly like minded. It’s like it was planned.”
“Like-minded? What do you mean?” Draco grabbed his case and pulled it to the leftover bed. Usually he would have demanded the best bed by the window, stating his privilege as the heir to the Malfoy name as leverage to get what he wanted, but he wasn’t that rich heir anymore.
“Well… as Blaise mentioned we were talking…” Theo glanced between the boys for confirmation to continue. “And we all want out.”
“Out of where?” Confused as ever, his brow furrowing with their cryptic words, Draco rummaged in his bag to make sure nothing was missing.
“Out of the Dark Arts.” Blaise elaborated sarcastically. “What do you think?”
“I know things have been tough for you, mate, but you’ve been kind of a pioneer for the rest of us.” Pike piped in in a lighter tone. “Like I said, things have been… bleak. With what happened to Dumbledore, I mean. Some of us don’t like what’s going down… and you showed us there is another way.”
“Are you guys sure about this?” Draco sighed, guilt piling on. While he had hoped in the Great Hall that others might follow his path, being confronted with the potential of violence in the Common Room was enough to make him weigh it more carefully. “Associating with me can only be bad news for you guys. You guys come from Death Eater families too.”
There was a brief silence, the pause in the room heavy as they understood the weight of his question.
“I’ve seen what it’s like.” Theodore finally said in a low, quiet voice. “My Dad… he’s spending his elderly years in Azkaban. I don’t want to waste away there. Not like he is. And I don’t want to have to kill someone I love to please the Dark Lord.”
Draco flinched at his speech.
Theodore’s mother. Through rumors he had heard what happened to his mother, and it was rough. Apparently she had turned in some of the worst of the Death Eaters to the ministry after the first war ended, and when Theodore’s father found out he erased her to make a point.
In front of Theodore.
“What does it matter?” Blaise shrugged, trying to lighten the mood, his perfect face still impassive. “My mom has got a bunch of other kids to follow her twisted agenda, and another husband on the way. She won’t care if I decide not to go full dark wizard. I’m tired of hearing her heap praises on the Dark Lord like he’s perfect when he looks like a creature. I’d rather use my looks and go into fashion design or something. It seems more prudent.”
It was such a Blaise like speech that Draco could only snort. Bonson, who had both parents incarcerated for being Death Eaters, also had similar sentiments of wanting to break free of his fate. It was just as the girl had said, his roomates were people who would make life in the castle easier. It would have been a problem if he had to sleep next to someone openly hostile.
But that begged the question, how did the girl know that this was the ideal combination of boys?
It wasn’t like any of them were very outspoken about their doubts, especially Blaise. He was the greatest shock as a turncoat, since he had stated time and time again that he hated blood traitors. And because of obsession with perfection, he was staunchly into pureblood ideology. He must have experienced something that was awful enough to change him.
Like Draco.
They chatted for a while, trying to dispel the tension, before finally Bonson’s curiosity got the best of him.
“How did you get past the ambush, though?” He asked. “They were right in front of the common room door.”
“Oh.” Excited to bring this up, Draco sat up straighter, happy he now had friends he could place confidence in. There had been no one else to ask. “A girl helped me. She’s a Prefect. With green eyes and dark hair.”
“A girl?” Pike frowned, trying to picture it, but suddenly Blaise was at attention. It was the most interested the aloof boy had been since Draco entered, his eyes twinkling with excitement as he sat up in his bed.
Wraith is still hungry. He'll probably go to read the full chapter on Ao3 or FF.net. I'd love if you would join him!

Without further adieu, here is an excerpt from Chapter 1!
Chapter 1: A Girl Like Smoke
Draco packed up his items in his suitcase and headed for Kings Cross Station. All he had to his name now was that one pack of items. He apparated to the station, glad he was old enough now not to get flagged by the corrupt ministry for underage magic. It would have been hard for a former rich brat like him to find his way to the station with other means.
Walking casually into the wall between platforms nine and ten, he made his way into the busy station where the Hogwarts Express waited to take students to Hogwarts for the school year. And what a year it would likely be, the Dark Lord now in control of the ministry and the school.
But Voldemort had made it mandatory for all Wizarding youth to attend, and he was no exception. He showed the ticket, receiving a punch, before sliding into the packed train. Every compartment was full but no one invited him in. They glanced away, some with fear and others with disdain. He had bullied the first half so it was understandable to be weary, but he was coming to terms with the fact that none of his Slytherin friends were willing to stand by him now.
Finally at the back of the train he found a room that was mostly empty. Except for one Slytherin boy. Cassius Warrington. Slytherin Chaser.
Malfoy used to be on the team so he though that surely this arrangement wouldn’t be an issue. Draco had always got on with Cassius just fine. But as soon as Cassius spotted him his lip curled back like he smelled something disgusting. Standing up, he shouldered Draco as he passed, turning to spit on the ground by his feet.
“Blood traitor.” He hissed, before walking down the hall to find some other friends to join.
Draco sighed.
This was fixing up to be a long train ride. At least he was alone in his little cubicle. He pushed his bag into the luggage compartment, grabbing a novel from his luggage, and sat heavily down on the seat while running his hands through his bangs. With the impending stress of this year, it was a wise choice to leave his hair down. He had a feeling that the motion would become habit.
There was no reason to draw attention to himself. His entire plan was just to sit quietly on the train and read. And he did do that for an hour or so, calmly flipping through the book. Since Lockheart had proven to be a joke that was now hospitalized, he picked up the adventure novels of another author. This one was about the Dragon Sanctuary in Romania, and the protagonist was returning a baby dragon that he had saved from a poacher. The plot was cringey at best, but it was at least suitable for passing the time.
It was around the time for the sweets trolly to roam through and Draco considered buying something to drink. There was a small amount of money in an account unaffiliated to the Malfoys that his mother had set aside for emergencies, and she had transferred the amount to Draco when he was disowned as an act of monetary motherly love.
Still, he had to be cautious with it.
Draco had grown up rich, so he was just learning how to be frugal. After he graduated Hogwarts he would have to use the money to find a place to stay and support himself while he looked for work. Unlike the guaranteed Ministry job he would have had through his father, with the Dark Lord in control he would have to find something in a private sector. It wouldn’t pay as well as government work but he needed to stay off the grid. Saving the money was the only option.
As he kept his ears peeled for the sound of the trolley, he heard rushed footfalls pound down the narrow hallway. Curious, he closed his book and watched the door, wondering who was running on the train. Usually they didn’t take kindly to such behavior.
There was some yelling and he stood up, considering checking it out.
And then his train door slid open.
A girl was in the entryway, her chest heaving.
Her clothing was disheveled, her robe falling off a shoulder, but he could see by the green inner lining and silver striped necktie that she was a Slytherin. Her hair was in disarray, a deep brunette color nearing black with streaks of green throughout. The sun behind her shined through the lighter green parts of her hair, casting a strange glow. But what caught his attention the most was her matching vibrant green eyes that were so bright they were almost ethereal and the cute little beauty mark under her left eye.
She was lovely.
He didn’t recall seeing someone like her in Slytherin before. Surely he would have noticed such a beautiful girl. Draco was as red blooded as any male, after all.
Those stunning eyes locked with his and widened, astonished to see who was in the cab.
“Draco Malfoy…!” She cursed. A moment of indecision came over her and she stepped back as if she were going to try elsewhere, but the yelling down the hallway made her head swivel, her shiny hair flicking with the motion. Her cunning mind whirled, calculating her best course, before she rushed inside and closed the door.
