Lester Young & Teddy Wilson - Louise From Pres and Teddy (1956, Verve MGV-8205)

Yeah, it certainly is a thing of hipness! And Pres' playing is one of the hippest things there were in music ever. His swinging light tone, the way he bounces over the changes. Lester Young was an incredible sax man and on this album "Pres and Teddy" he formed a band as good as can be. Just like he did on his 1952 "The President plays with the Oscar Peterson Trio" album. This time he also was able to get one of the definitive and great swing pianists: Teddy Wilson. He is an old companion. They played together on Billie Holiday's "Lady Day" album (Columbia CL 637) next to other legends like Buck Clayton and Benny Goodman and of course Lady Day herself. Another man from this session returns here. It's Jo Jones (Papa Jo Jones) and that's something I'm very happy about since I'm a huge fan of his drumming. The tune we've got here Louise is nothing less but a 10/10 jazz document! After Wilson's piano intro the swing these guys make is simply carrying me away. There is hardly sense in talking about the solos, just listen. But can you believe how cool a drum solo can be?
