Katie is thrilled to score tickets for the USA men’s hockey finals, but after a strange turn of events, she’s even more excited to find herself up close and personal with the team’s T-Rex star player, Flonto Breem.
The two set off on a first date, and things are going well, until questions about Flonto’s political affiliation start bubbling to the surface. It’s not long before Katie realizes that all the goodwill she’d felt for this dinosaur hockey player was misinformed, and that Flonto is a full on MAGA dork.
Looks like there won’t be any pounding tonight! Unless, of course, the USA women’s team and their star triceratops are somewhere nearby!
This tale is 4,100 words of sexless disappointment that the T-Rex you thought was cool is actually an authoritarian bootlicker.

please enjoy brand new tingler NOT POUNDED BY THIS T-REX ON THE USA MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM BECAUSE IT TURNS OUT HE’S A MAGA DORK out now. get it here or on tingleverse patreon

Oilbirds or Guácharos (Steatornis caripensis), family Steatornithidae, order Steatornithiformes, found in locations on northern and western South America
These birds used to be included in the order Caprimulgiformes, along with the nightjars, but were separated into their own order in 2010.
They are closely related to the nightjars.
These nocturnal birds usually nest in colonies in caves.
Oilbirds feed on the fruits of oil palms and laurels.
They are able to navigate at night using echo-location.

Collared Nightjar (Gactornis enarratus), family Caprimulgidae, order Caprimulgiformes, endemic to Madagascar

Long-whiskered or Moluccan Owlet-Nightjar (Aegotheles cristatus), chicks, family Aegothelidae, order Aegotheliformes, Sulawesi, Indonesia
Owlet-nightjars are not nightjars, and are not in the nightjar order Caprimulgiformes.
They are in their own order.
They are not as closely related to nightjars or frogmouths, as previously thought.

Sumatran or Short-tailed Frogmouth (Batrachostomus poliolophus), family Podargidae, order Podargiformes, Sumatra, Indonesia
The frogmouths used to be included in the Nightjar/Goatsucker order Caprimulgiformes. As of 2019, they are now in their own order.
Frogmouths are not as closely related to nightjars, as previously thought.

Satin Flycatcher (Myiagra cyanoleuca), family Monarchidae, order Passeriformes, northern Tasmania, Australia
Like many birds that catch flying insects out of the air, this bird has prominent bristles around the beak. These structures help to sweep the insects into the open mouth of the bird.

My brother randomly told me something that really made me think.
About what "Protect the youth" has become. Idk what it was like in other countries and I know that it very likely could have been stricter than it was in my country back then. But generally:
He was like "When I was 16, there were two kinds of adult content: Horror movies and explicitly depicted sexual content. The first made me have nightmares, the latter (as in what you could get in video rental stores) generally wasn't of much interest to me because it wasn't something I, as a 16 year old, could relate to. And other sexual content that was interesting (and/or helpful) WAS freely accessible. So whenever I saw an "18+" label somewhere, I just completely ignored that content because I knew it wouldn't be interesting at all to me.
But NOW, what's declared 18+ is even an excessive amount of swear words in streams! NOW, when I see an "18+" label, I don't know if it's horror movies that'll give some 16 year olds nightmares, if it's completely unrelatable porn, OR if it's educational sex ed, a 20 year old talking about their really healthy relationship with their partner (that includes intimacy), education about consent in BDSM (which affects 16 year olds as well, there's no age limit to curiosity), a live stream of wholesome musicians who happen to drink a couple of beers during kind of therapeutic talks, or simply people who aren't puritans and say "fuck" a lot! An 18+ label isn't worth anything anymore!"
And yeah... That's just it.
People who talk about body changes during their (first!) puberty are even labelled adult content. Even though puberty very much happens BEFORE adulthood. It's helpful content for minors. And it's labelled "adult" to "protect the youth".
Nothing means anything anymore.

Waiting for Blorbot
Murderbot diaries is really just a bunch of horror/thriller plots from the perspective of the Deus Ex Machina. Except it has anxiety. And 100% believes they are all going to die. And it has an eldritch horror bff that rides shotgun in it's brain. Wonderful

“There are such a lot of things that have no place in summer and autumn and spring. Everything that’s a little shy and a little rum. Some kind of night animals and people that don’t fit in with others and that nobody really believes in. They keep out of the way all year. And then when everything’s quiet and white and the nights are long and most people are asleep - then they appear.“

Left-Handed Girl (dir. Shih-Ching Tsou) x VIFF 2025.
Produced, edited, and co-written by four-time Academy Award-winner Sean Baker, the working-class Taiwanese family drama about a single mother who operates a night market food stall in Taipei, and her two daughters, presents strong similarities to the neorealist characters seen in The Florida Project. Told primarily from the point of view of the titular five-year-old girl (Nina Ye), we follow her mischievous spirit while more serious socio-economic adult problems linger in the background. It's a strong matriarchal generational story about long-held family secrets, shame, guilt, and attitudes that hope to improve with each successive daughter slightly.
Screened at the 2025 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Showcase series.
Screening at the VIFF Centre until Nov. 20.
