Hi, I’m K!
About me: 26, Artist & writer with a BA in Studio Art & English, butch lesbian, ELCA Lutheran (aka the progressive ones), disabled, feminist.
About the Blog: This is mainly a blog for art, writing, socializing & fandom. Other topics may include history, costuming, theatre, sewing, bookbinding, media studies (queer, disability & feminist theory mainly), disability & mental health, queer/lesbian/butch stuff, feminist stuff, occasional theology & spirituality, and some current-events things relating to the aforementioned topics and my general concerns for justice in the world.
My biggest creative tags are #my art and #my writing. I love comments and feedback!
I am on AO3 as word_docs_and_willowboughs (I also have an alt which fandom friends may DM me for but which I would prefer stay separate from most IRL folks who follow me here - though if you know what it is, assume I want you to)
Things I Enjoy & Post About A Lot:
- Genderbending—usually of male characters to women or nonbinary. I’ve probably done it at least sometimes for most of the fandoms I’ve been in, sometimes extensively. My tag is #rule 63 because it’s what I established years ago, but since I do also have non girl-to-guy stuff in there take it as more of an “alternate universe: gender changes”.
- Horror fiction, especially gothic novels and horror movies which are doing some form of social commentary and subversion of older stereotypes/tropes around things like gender, disability, queerness, race, religion and xenophobia. I am working on an international horror movie marathon watch and have my letterboxd reviews here. (#horror #horror movies #gothic etc)
- Historical fiction which is well-researched and has its world grounded in reality (eg the Lymond books, Equal of the Sun, Malinche on Canal 11)
- Re-evaluating ‘bad’ women, disabled & queer characters in fiction with more nuance and, potentially, sympathy (I am liable to crusade for delinquent teenage girls who respond badly to trauma, what can I say?)
- Femslash!! Especially with butches. I am more of a plot-heavy and angst-with-happy-endings enjoyer a pure-fluff one but I can appreciate both! I love genderbending characters to be butches/butch4butch or butchfemme couples (or throuples…)
- Queer, Feminist & Disability Studies based readings and reinterpretations of classic literature & films, especially but not only in horror
- History of gender & sexuality in my time periods of interest (currently pretty fixated on the 16th century); histories of disability
- Historical fashion (study of history; I differentiate the study of history from analysis of costumes in media as well as from reenactment) - recurrent interests are 16th century Western Europe & Ottoman Empire, and Tang, Yuan & Ming China (most educated on hanfu but working to expand that). (#historical fashion #fashion history)
- The history of beliefs about magic, witchcraft and witch trials, particularly in Europe in the 16th-early 17th century but also broader threads of what people believe about various concepts of “witches”; how it’s misused socially; and its connection to things like conspiracy thought (#elaborated theory of witchcraft tag)
Active Fandoms: requests for art, writing and meta/thoughts are open; probably spamming about them at any given moment.
- The Lymond Chronicles (rule 63 AU tag is #a furious and fatuous young woman; there’s a lot of stuff there)… and the microfandom for @notasapleasure ‘s 80s-band Lymond AU (#the band AU; #the band AU rule 63)
- Interview With The Vampire AMC - I'm on a break after S3 from engaging with the bigger fandom outside of Claudia & Claudeleine content. I also have a frankencanon R63 AU where I do sometimes have Lestat, Louis, Armand, Daniel etc. featured but I lowkey only care about the lesbian/bi versions of them that exist in my head rn!
- The Vampire Chronicles but I’ve only read some of them (the first three most thoroughly; The Vampire Armand supplementally because he’s my boy)
- Revolutionary Girl Utena & its musical adaptations Bud of the White Rose and Blooming Rose of Deepest Black.
- Doctrine of Labyrinths (currently nearing the end of Mélusine; genderbending away but there’s no AU-specific tag
- A Heated Rivalry f!AU I have where they’re gymnasts (#gymnastics au and #hollanova) but not much canon reblogging
- A smidge of The Magnus Archives, though I don’t really post my art for it, sorry
- My Magnus Archives RPG campaign (#tma rpg) with @venndaai @coldwind-shiningstars @talking0fmichelangel0 and @whatthewhenjustmighthavebeen which I DM
Back-Burner Beloved Fandoms: kinda-inactive fandoms I’ve made stuff for and posted about previously, but I’m still totally down to talk about even if I’m not posting about them on the regular. I may take art and writing requests but may be slower in responding until my brain kicks into gear.
- Shakespeare (Hamlet and King Lear are two favorites; I’m also histories-fandom-adjacent) (#lesbian hamlet)
- Marlowe (Doctor Faustus); fan and sideline-member of #faustklub
- Dumas (The Three Musketeers; I have more on my TBR)
- Modao Zushi & Chenqing Ling/The Untamed
- Tian Guan Ci Fu (book & donghua)
- Ren zha fanpai zijiu itong (aka SVSSS)
- Jing Wei Qing Shang
- My lesbian Hamlet retelling (#withering violets; #hamletnovel)
- I’m not active in Tolkien fandom but have left a few fics/some art up; not taking Silmarillion related requests right now, sorry
Filtering/Tumblr Savior Tips:
A) I tag topics #[topic] cw. This includes current events (#[location] politics cw); bigotry (eg #misogyny cw); other heavy topics (eg suicide, rape, abuse); specific disasters/crises (eg #wildfires cw; #war cw); medical topics (#medical cw); and horror topics (eg #body horror cw)
B) A note about religion: I post about Christianity sometimes (I am a progressive ELCA Lutheran), though I do not proselytize. Nor do I put cw-style warnings for any religious belief or lack thereof, but if you want to filter those topics, block #christianity tag (which includes the good, the bad and the ugly sides of it, from my own love of my faith to addressing cultural hegemony in the Western world, Christofascism, and the historical and present atrocities committed in the name of my God). I do not have anything against atheism, skepticism or secularism, but if you want to filter me occasionally talking about some issues with the way that specifically New Atheists & Antitheists treat religious people socially, filter #new atheism and #antitheism
C) I use the tag #ocd tag without a CW to post about both my experiences with moral/scrupulosity and religious OCD (sometimes including vents) and resources for others
D) #negative and #delete later are my occasional vents
