fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.

“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”

if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.

in a way, taylor's whole discography is a negotiation between career ambition and personal relationships, right, like in the early albums there's so much about 'i never fit in, i didn't get the guy, but i found dreams much bigger in songwriting, people haven't always been there for me but music always has.' and then as she grows up there's so much about her partners belittling her art and the whole metatextual element of writing about her relationships affecting them, and her as the narrator trying to navigate what details to share for the sake of the art and what to keep to herself to protect. the idea of running away from the fame to seek out real human connection starts cropping up on RED and reaches a peak on Midnights, to me, where the central question really is 'what parts of myself have i cut away to serve my ambition? is there enough left to continue splitting myself in two?' and by the time we get to Poets, the predominant feeling is 'fine, that door is closed to me forever, i'm just this crazy monster, fame and success have made me something simultaneously divine and monstrous, but either way i'm not human anymore.' and then we get to showgirl where she is both immortal and dreaming of a driveway with a basketball hoop, with no tension between those two things. now tell me again there's nothing to analyze on this album lol

an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc

and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean

and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere
