i try not to judge people on their drink orders but a guy just paid £6.85 for the most disgusting beverage i have ever been forced to make. felt like i'd been complicit in a crime
matcha powder mixed with decaf coffee, vanilla paste, black pepper, turmeric and sugar syrup. it was a revolting shade of puke green and smelled like a foot.
I sent this post to my SO and they insisted on making it
how was it?
I refused to touch it with a 10 foot pole because I was scared, but SO says it was "horrendous", "so many layers of awful", and "the worst part is you can't get the flavor out of your mouth".
yeah that checks out
unfortunately i have to inform you that this guy is now a regular and forces me to recreate this beverage for him at least once a week. he calls it "the concoction".
Whatever face you made the first time brought him back
Potion of Extended Bad Taste created
"Omg, I love these! They go up to size 6X AND they have pockets?! Wow!! But do you have anything longer?"
Sure do, no problem!!
"YES these are great!!! But what about.. longer?"
I gotcha!! Comin' right up!
"Now that's what I'm talkin' about! But... how about if I'm feeling like it's the kinda day where I need my clothing to be bifurcated???"
Never fear, joggers are here!
*wild cheering*

we need to talk about the fact that for many of the posters in season one, they are literally on opposite sides and/or have a dividing line between them
and now they're literally crossed over in some way for the season 2 posters
THEY'RE LITERALLY ON THEIR OWN SIDE NOW, PEOPLE!
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS?
this is fucking me up so bad.
i'm just going along with it now
Sadly, the upper limit on the estimated age of HD 140283 was incorrect and based on older models. Further study has shown that while it is truly ancient - one of the last survivors of its generation - it was formed in the very early years of our own universe.
Due to much different conditions in the early universe, most stars that formed at that time were huge and extremely short-lived. Their light (and eventual supernovae) re-ionized interstellar gas and seeded it with heavier elements, leading to the formation of the larger numbers of smaller stars we see today. Methuselah has only 1/250 of the heavy elements of our sun, suggesting that it was created after some of that initial seeding, but still fairly early on.
Almost all of the stars we see in the Milky Way from this time period are late G-type stars (stars with about 80% of the sun’s mass) that are starting to die; this is not surprising as this also coincides with an increase in brightness. Larger stars would not have survived as long, and smaller stars (if they formed) would likely still be too faint to see.
As for “normal” matter making up only 5% of stuff in the universe: yeah. Most of the universe appears to be a soup of dark matter and dark energy. If you don’t count dark energy (which is more of a property of space itself), the ratio is still 5:1 dark matter to normal matter.
Unfortunately, other than adding structure to the universe and allowing for the formation of our current galaxies, dark matter isn’t very interesting. It’s probably just a bunch of really light particles that kind of slosh together and don’t do anything.
The current most popular guess for the composition of dark matter is something called an axion (named after the detergent), which is unremarkable other than if our theories about them are correct, you could conceivably use them to communicate through arbitrary amounts of solid matter. Note that you can do this with neutrinos, but you need a particle accelerator at the sending end and a huge tank of water at the other end to catch them; if the mass of the axion is in a particular range all you need is a laser and a pair of really strong magnets.
Actually, that’s the perfect way to think about it!

As someone with a medical diet (celiac plus a soy allergy) the responses on this AITA thread are pissing me the fuck off … loads of people saying YTA and basically that OP shouldn’t eat out because they have a dietary restriction???
I’ve had restaurants Fuck up and lie to me about it (once had a regular bun given to me on a burger and after one bite I KNEW it wasn’t GF but they sat there and insisted it was, then gave me a new bun that looked/tasted nothing like the first one … i was still in pain for a week because of that first bite). It sucks and it is ABSOLUTELY their fault when told that an order is a certain way due to allergy/intolerance/medical condition.
Edit to add: I’ll sometimes take the risk of cross contamination because I have pills that work for low-level exposure. But I expect to not be served a straight up the thing I have issues with when I specifically order gluten free. When it’s something like OP’s situation where the solution is to just not serve them the wrong soda, I have very little sympathy for Fuck-ups.

AITA for going off on the restaurant that gave me regular soda instead of zero sugar?
I know the title sounds bad but please hear me out.
For background, I follow the ketogenic diet. I have seizures and pills weren’t working to control them, so my doctor prescribed the diet as a last resort to get them under control. It transformed my life. I’ve been seizure free for years now, and I’ve gained a lot of my freedoms back I once thought I’d never get back.
Needless to say, I never have a “cheat day” or change the amount of carbs I can have, at all. It is a prescription diet and I have to follow it exactly as directed to keep my freedoms. I measure and track all my carbs and fats to make sure I’m getting exactly what I need, and when I eat out, I always check their nutritional menu before ordering anything.
About a week ago I decided to treat myself to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. I’ve been there plenty of times before as there are many food options for me. When the waitress came to my table, I gave her my typical order: pan-fried salmon fillet with a side of asparagus and Coke Zero Sugar. I finished everything, paid, and left. As soon as I was driving back home, I felt the unmistakable feeling that had haunted me all those years ago: an aura. I panicked; I pulled the car to the side of the road, threw it into park, and put my hazards on before falling into a convulsion. Apparently someone called the cops, because the first things I remember seeing were blue lights, being taken out of the car, and being sent to the hospital. At the hospital I explained my condition and how I’d been seizure free for years thanks to keto. They asked me what I’d eaten this past day, and I told them. They said what most likely happened was the restaurant gave me regular Coca Cola instead of Zero Sugar, which knocked me out of ketosis immediately. They took my license away for 6 months until I can (again) prove to them the diet keeps my seizures under control.
I was livid. How was I going to get to work? How was i going to get groceries? Once discharged I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. I went OFF on the manager. I told him the whole story, the worker’s name, and the drink I was given that could’ve nearly killed me or someone else. I’ll admit I swore a lot and called the waitress colorful names, which I am now ashamed about. Apparently she’s now been fired from her job and I feel terrible.
So, Reddit, AITA for being a Karen at a restaurant and getting a waitress fired?
EDIT: I did inform her of my diet and that I can’t eat sugar. Also I can’t taste the different as I had covid last year and my taste has been “dulled” in a way
EDIT 2: It HAD to be the soda. I didn’t have any other triggers that day, and even on previous days when I face something that would’ve been a trigger, nothing happens because the diet works.
I also checked my ketones in the morning and they were the right level. I checked them after lunch, they were the right level. The hospital checked them after dinner: guess what? Extremely low level.

That waitress literally endangered lives. She could have been responsible not just for the death of the poster, but also anyone else on the road if the poster hadn’t noticed the seizure warning signs on time. It is not unfair for the waitress to have lost a food service job over poisoning her customer.
some of the notes observe that unless the waitress pulled the drink herself, she didn’t know it was the wrong one either. which is a valid point, and if she indeed didn’t know, then she indeed should not have lost her job over it.
whoever pulled the wrong drink should have.
Would people be telling them YTA if OP was diabetic? Likely not, because people are familiar with diabetes and what too much sugar can do. I have celiac disease. Several years ago, my husband and I went on a weekend trip to celebrate our ten year anniversary. A pasta restaurant advertised they have GF pasta. The only pasta I had been able to find was stuff that turn into mush as soon as it met water (this changed when we moved to a new area with more than two grocery stores). I was so excited about having GF pasta that would taste good. When we ordered, I asked several times if the pasta I wanna order is GF, asked when it arrived at my table, and it was yes all around. I took a bite and was thrilled it tasted so good. Too good. Then the first signs of their lying showed up, and I had to make a mad dash to the toilet. I was in there for 20 minutes, sick af. My husband asked for the manager because something was wrong and our waitress was ignoring him.
The manager was confused about why the waitress would lie. Turns out they didn’t have GF pasta in the restaurant, they sold it in the little pasta shop on the other side of the restaurant. Uncooked and meant to be used at home. He said a lot people get confused, but they didn’t set up sign about this anywhere.
I was sick for the next several weeks, the onky thing preventing diarrhea was to eat unripe bananas every few hours. I ate a lotta candied ginger to keep the nausea down, and had to get a prescription cream to control the blistering rash that showed up.
I’m also epileptic, and when my bowels are like this, I cannot absorb my meds properly. My seizure count went up by a lot, and we had to have friend hang out with me while my husband went to work. We had considered suing, but opted not to.
This guy was NTA. His life and the lives of others were endangered because of this, much like my risk of SUDEP went up by a lot.

I feel this!!! Also love how you muted the color along the way, I think it makes it that much more impactful!
This is the thing!
…Takes a while, sometimes.
Here is the composition for the King of Clubs, the trans pride knight! 👑 ♣️
Clubs feature a flower theme. We want to add forget-me-nots wrapped around the sword as a symbolic reference to Transgender Day of Remembrance.
And we are also thinking of adding a blue butterfly perched on one of the pink flowers adorning the shield.
What do you think? Do you like this idea?
Yes! 🦋🛡
Not sure 🤔
I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.
The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.
In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ as they adopted the word as was used by homosexual men, except that society also used it as an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The wider queer community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.
The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.
The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities.
Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.
In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedan, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.
In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.
Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.
GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.
Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.
In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.
Blind people must save a lot on electricity.
They do actually!
I had a blind professor, last semester, and I swung through his office to make up an exam. It was a while before I knew he was in there because he was sitting with the lights off. I finally went in, apologized, and took the exam by the light of a nearby window (which was fine). Forty-five minutes into dead silence he panicked and yelled in this booming voiced, “WAIT, YOU CAN SEE!!!” before diving across his desk to turn on the lights. I’m sure he was embarrassed but I thought it was endearing and it highlighted a large aspect of disabled life that I hadn’t previously considered.
Sort of relatedly I once had professor who was deaf, but she had learned to read lips and speak so she could communicate easily with hearing people who didn’t know sign language. One day she had gotten off topic and was talking a little about her personal life, so that one of the students said “Oh, I know, I grew up in Brooklyn too.”
She stared at him for a long time and then said “How do you know I’m from Brooklyn?”
And he said “You have a Brooklyn accent.”
She said “I do?” and the whole class nodded, and then she burst out laughing and said “I had no idea! The school where I learned to speak was in Brooklyn. I learned by moving my mouth and tongue the way my teachers did. So I guess it makes sense that I have their accent, I just never thought about it.”
My moms a sign language interpreter, and she’s signed with people from all over the US. According to her, when she signs with people from the south they sign with a “drawl.” They have slower hand movements and exaggerate certain parts of the sign. People from the Midwest sign very fast and people from the south sign very slow.
So we were at a restaurant once and my mom started interpreting for someone who was trying to order and she was like “oh you’re from the south!”
And they were like “how did you know that?”
And she said “you sign with a drawl.” And they were really surprised that it came through that much.
It’s really interesting that even when not speaking verbally accents and heritage come through.
Humans are so fucking fascinating
a lot of pieces of media will show characters catching fireflies with just their bare hands. in some cases they will just land on the persons fingers. to gently be placed inside of a jar..
for people who live in areas who don’t have fireflies, i want you to know that is not made up or exaggerated for those scenes. fireflies are really like that. they are slow and not cautious at all. while camping i would just walk up to one flying in the air and grab it. and it would sit on my hands like “oh ok.” they are my friends.
also i think it’s funny when fireflies are portrayed as round light bulb-ish shapes. they are skinny.
also their butts are yellow even when not lit up. they’re not just all black until suddenly lighting up yellow! they always got little yellow asses!
they are such friends
fireflies our beloveds <3
Thought people might appreciate this video I got of a firefly that landed on my mom’s ring and sat there flashing for about a good minute or two. They really are just like that
I've had to let a couple people know that fireflies are in fact real.
If you're one of todays lucky ten thousand, i'm happy for you. The world is a marvelous place <3
ROUND 1: GILGAMESH (the epic of gilgamesh) VS SCRATCH (ice age)
FIGHT
gilgamesh
scratch
@headspace-hotel time to do propaganda
Is Scrat canonically bisexual and part of a world-shaking gay love saga so enduring it's the oldest known work of written literature? No. Is Scrat known as "He Who Saw the Abyss?" No. Did Scrat build the great walls of Uruk? No. Does Scrat wield a sword that weighs 120 pounds? No. Did Scrat commit so many atrocities it required the gods to build a gay soulmate for him to keep him occupied? No. I rest my case.
actually that last one definitely happened with scrat. it was his acorn.
How is the acorn gay
When I say Gilgamesh and Enkidu are canonically gay for each other, I don't mean "oh the text says they love each other and [untranslatable] so that means they're obviously gay" I mean "there are real ancient Sumerian poems where it is made 100% clear that Gilgamesh and Enkidu Had Sex"
Gilgamesh literally is The Character Of All Time. He's been mankind's blorbo for well over 4 millennia. He invented homoeroticism. All y'all are just illiterate
also if Scrat deserved this, half of you (including the person who WROTE THE POLL) wouldn't have forgotten what his name actually is
you underestimate my abilitu to misspell and forget words. today i called a paint pallette a tile. i forget how to spell my own moms name sometimes. his name is scrote now i dont give a fuck.
Mans a certified princess ✨
