It wasn’t hard to tell that annoyance was building up behind Luka’s blue eyes when Austin once again missed his cue because he was too distracted by his phone. It was hard to stay patient when someone wasn’t even willing to put in the effort of trying, so Luka was ready to throw in the towel and give up. An exasperated sigh escaped from his mouth when the boy got up to put his phone away, as Luka was positive the other would find something else to be distracted about. “What’s so confusing about it?” He furrowed his brows at his weak excuse. “I already told you we’re not changing it.” Of course, once again Austin didn’t listen to him and replaced his sheet music with his own, and Luka couldn’t stop himself from cringing with his song choice. “No,” he tried to interject before Austin could even finish pleading his case, though it didn’t stop the boy from continuing to talk. It was obvious that the cheerleader wasn’t willing to cooperate until he got what he wanted, but there was no way Luka was going to perform this song with Austin in front of everyone. Then again, maybe he could compromise a little and at least give it a try. Maybe if he played along for now, Austin would actually get excited about singing. While his voice was average at best, Luka couldn’t deny that he was one of the best dancers in the club, and they needed to have him around for competitions. “Okay, we can try it,” Luka nodded, a small smile forming on his lips when he saw the look of surprise on Austin’s face. “Are you ready?” His eyes locked on the sheet music as his fingers moved over the keys, playing the first notes of the song. “I was busy thinking about boys…”
To say that Austin was proud of himself was an understatement. "Ready," he agreed with a single nod. With a smug look on his face, he came around the piano and took his spot next to Luka -- fully ready to cooperate. “I was busy dreaming 'bout boys." The heavy eye contact was probably too much too soon, but Austin did promise he would try harder to actually care. He still thought the idea of glee was pretty lame, but spending time alone with Luka made him hate the idea a little less. He bumped Luka with elbow and winked as he sung the next line. "I need that bad boy to do me right on a Friday." Truthfully, Austin didn't even like to sing. In fact, he binged watched a slew of “HowTo” videos on YouTube before auditioning. Even though he knew rule about whoever auditioned got in, he didn't want to completely suck. There was nothing extraordinary about his voice; hence, the theatricality he often relied on. Their duet was a nice change of pace compared to Austin is used to, but he still found it difficult to pay attention. "How do you feel about synth instead of the piano?" He asked, cutting Luka off yet again. "I don’t want our performance to turn into a total snoozefest."

“No, you’re not. You’re supposed to watch me and pay attention to when your part starts,” Luka rolled his eyes when the boy showed him his phone, clearly determined to make this situation as difficult as possible. Though Austin finally put his phone down, Luka wasn’t convinced one bit that was going to make an effort with their duet. “Turn it off first,” he urged, hoping that would be enough for the cheerleader to focus on the task at hand. His eyes went wide as saucers when the other boy suddenly grabbed his sheet music and started flipping through it. “Austin, do you mind not touching my things without my permission?” Not waiting for the other to respond, he immediately took it from him and put it back in the stand. “It is, I love it and I’m not changing this song.” Luka wasn’t even willing to hear any suggestions, not after Austin’s last embarrassing performance in the choir room. “I can’t believe we’ve only just started and I’ve already lost at least half of my lifespan… Please, just pay attention to me this time.” His slender fingers cascaded up and down across the piano keys as he played the intro part of Dua Lipa’s ‘Homesick’. “Come on, try to harmonize with me?"
Austin couldn’t help but to roll his eyes when Luka took the sheet music from his hands. He reached for his phone to turn it off as requested, but was immediately distracted by a notification, causing him to miss his cue once again. “Sorry, sorry. I’ll put it away,” he insisted as he rose from the bench. He walked over to his bag and pretended to dig around before pulling out his own sheet music. “I think that song is just too confusing. But luckily, I have a better one,” he beamed as if he wasn’t waiting for the perfect opportunity for this. “It’s timeless, a classic, and everyone can relate to it.” He watched Luka’s face as he slid his sheet music for Charli XCX’s ‘Boys’ over Luka’s and hoped he would at least look at it before rejecting him again. “And before you say no — just think — I would totally try harder if I were interested in the song, you know? We wouldn’t even have to rehearse that long. I already have glitter canons and dancers on standby.”
