“When you’re a dreamer, heartbreak and failure come with the territory. But I can tell you it’s worth it because it’s a way of living that is both moving and memorable.”

“We don’t have the power to change an experience—an experience is what it is. But we do have the power to change how we experience that experience. You can let those dark voices [in your head] overwhelm you and have a bad day, or you can make the voices focus on all the good stuff, and it turns out to be a pretty amazing day. And the thing is, it’s the same damn day.”
— Tim Catalano (Runner’s World)
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
— Socrates (via daniellethesheep)
“When we choose growth over perfection, we immediately increase our shame resilience. Improvement is a far more realistic goal than perfection. Merely letting go of unattainable goals makes us less susceptible to shame. When we believe “we must be this” we ignore who or what we actually are, our capacity and our limitations. We start from the image of perfection, and of course, from perfection there is nowhere to go but down.”

“When feeling overwhelmed by a faraway goal, repeat the following: I have it within me right now, to get me to where I want to be later.”
— - Karen Salmansohn
“You have to continue to work even when you’re not being praised. You have to dig deep and go the extra mile because breakthroughs don’t happen when you do the bare minimum. It has to come from you and be for you. It all comes down to you.”
— a reminder to myself when I get frustrated and defeated (via runningmandz)
“In other words, let’s face it: Life is basically unfair. But even in a situation that’s unfair, I think it’s possible to seek out a kind of fairness. Of course, that might take time and effort. And maybe it won’t seem to be worth all that. It’s up to each individual to decide whether or not it is.”
— Haruki Murakami (via a-gingers-snap)
“Sometimes you have to push yourself, and it can be uncomfortable. You will want to quit. But if you can find your edge and embrace the discomfort even for a little bit, you’ll find a new level of fitness, skill, and knowledge. And there’s no better feeling than growth.”
— Roisin McGettigan-Dumas
“Commitment is doing the thing you said you would do, long after the mood you said it in, has left you.”
— George Zalucki
“The 10X Rule says that 1) you should set targets for yourself that are 10X greater than what you believe you can achieve and 2) you should take actions that are 10X greater than what you believe are necessary to achieve your goals. The biggest mistake most people make in life is not setting goals high enough. Taking massive action is the only way to fulfill your true potential.”
— Grant Cardone
“There is a certain terror that goes along with saying, “My life is up to me.” It is scary to realize there’s no magic, you can’t just wait around, no one can really rescue you, and you have to do something.”
— “The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter–And How to Make the Most of Them Now” by Meg Jay
“Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh (via lazyyogi)
“Don’t let fear decide your future.”
— Shalane Flanagan
“Be the energy you wish to attract.”
— Unknown
I can’t stress how important perseverance is. You have this dream for a reason. You just need to get through your rough patch, whatever it is. I know it can feel like hell sometimes and I know loving the sport gets hard when you feel like every odd is stacked against you. But persevere. Gather all your courage and all your determination, and keep driving forward. You have no idea what you could end up achieving. You have no idea who you could be. It’s worth it.
“Trust the wait. Enjoy the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, anything is possible.”
