I will say this till my fingers fall off or my keyboard breaks: fanfiction is a beautiful haven for everyone that the mainstream world overlooks, ignores, or attacks. It provides representation, affirmation, and a strong community. Nothing in this world has more potential to change our society that fanfiction. More below

I love that "I don't go here" has become slang for "I am not part of this fandom. Especially because it's usually followed by something complimentary, or at least amusing.

"I don't go here but I love this fic!"

"I don't go here but this art is amazing."

"I don't go here but this tea is delicious."

"I don't go here but holy shit I might!"

It's like the power of a creator's enthusiasm for what they love just sucks someone in like a planet's gravity well sucking down asteroids.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but stop giving the female and/or queer audience more power than it has. I’ve seen popular posts on tumblr accusing queer-oriented transformative fandom of so many things, from straight men’s fear of displaying affection towards other men to the Endgame finale (which happened simultaneously because the female and/or queer fans were too vocal in their demands and were not vocal enough at the same time).

The multibillionaire corporation is the victim for some reason.

There are things ‘problematic’ in fandom but maybe if we didn’t frame women and queer people as at fault for their own oppression it would be neat.

Happy Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day to all of you who write. Whether it’s one shots or full chaptered fics, you are wonderful. Fanfiction is something that I have loved for so long because it allows you to write and read about the characters you love outside of the canon worlds they are set in. There are infinite possibilities in fanfiction and there is few limits, which is why it is so fun to write and why people love to read it. Reading books is fun, but when you have the ability to read about all the characters you already love at your fingertips, it just feels so much more special. The ability to write is something most all humans possess, but the ability to write well is a true gift, and so many of you have that beautiful ability. So, thank you to all of my fellow fanfiction writers, and to those who read and share our stuff. Fandom is such a special thing and we all take part in making it such an enjoyable experience, whether we are creators or not.
