What I feel people frequently forget about autistic special interests is that they aren't always information based. They may simply be visual or mental

Someone may have a special interest in a show, but instead of that meaning that they will talk about that show often, it may mean they watch that show extremely frequently.

Special interests are ways of regulating, not simply encyclopedias we have in our heads. Sometimes it's watching something frequently. Maybe only listening to one genre of music, maybe it's a collection, maybe it's an action. I'm tired of it only being seen as autistic people's personal encyclopedias

one of aspects of ARFID that i don’t see talked about (okay i don’t see ARFID talked about in general) is the sensitivity to temperature and looks of food.

it may not be the case for everyone with ARFID, but for me it’s a big issue. it’s not enough that my food must be a safe food that i’m ready to eat today. it must be in correct temperature range and it must look in a way i’m used to, or i won’t be able to eat it. my brain just can’t recognise it as This Food and i can’t make myself to eat it. literally. i lose appetite. i can eat a bite and if it throws me off, i just don’t want to eat anymore. i can still feel hunger after some time, but i can’t force myself to eat, it takes time and effort.

it sucks ass to throw a sing and dance every time i need to eat. it is embarrassing sometimes to explain why usually safe food doesn’t work. it makes already hard process even harder.
