decided i should make intro

call me rock. any pronouns except he and she. mainly post about disability and queer. also judaism sometimes.

interests: snakes, theater, human genetics and development (specifically genetic and developmental disorders), judaism.

i block people i am uncomfortable following me or interacting. also often unfollow people due to restricted interest (if not mutual with you anymore doesn't mean don't like you! just need break).

i only use plaintext and all media have full description. try to tag for common triggers/upset things (just the word/phrase, no cw or tw). will add any tags if asked. okay to reblog or comment on anything if i don’t want i will turn off reblogs or delete comments.

lot of time have trouble with words. will try to clarify language if you are confused but not always possible. especially have trouble when upset. please do not correct grammar.

wish people remember that like. forget to eat, will sudden remember not eat after whole day, not liking food, struggling w chores like laundry n dishes n house cleaning n grocery shopping hating doing it put it off doing it, finding those supposedly “simple” stuff harder than many so called “advanced / skilled / hard / complicated” stuff… be pretty common lower support needs autistic & adhd experience actually n lots people struggle with that actually

requests open from now until august 8. i don't have a set number of slots, but i'll work through them in the order they come in & close requests if i get too busy.

sensitivity reads:

send me your original work (any media type) and i will privately review your disability representation! i will do best at reviewing for deafness and autism, but i'm open to reviewing other disabilities as well. (i can't answer questions about day-to-day life, but i can review for common tropes, workshop disability aids, or fact-check the work.)

limits:

written work (including comics): 1 piece, any length, or any number of excerpts from 1 piece. if you have several very short works (short stories, plot bunnies, short comics, etc.) we can negotiate.

video/audio works (movies, animations, podcasts, etc): i will not review these unless you provide me a script (im deaf). 1 piece, any length.

art pieces (any format): up to 3.

character sketches/planning: up to 3.

i will review characters and plot points from your fanfic per my written work/character sketch limits as if they are original, but i probably do not know the source material.

don't send me work from your friend or another creative--have them contact me directly.

media reviews:

send me published original work (by someone other than you) and i will make a post on this blog with my thoughts about the disability representation!

limits:

written work: one piece, any length. no webnovels.

no fanfiction! i don't want to critique a random fic writer.

movies: one movie.

tv shows or serial comics: up to one season. i may not review it if "one season" turns out to be too long for me.

no podcasts.

no pieces with audio components if captions aren't available.

i must be able to access the work for free/through the services i already have, or you can send me a copy.

the work must be publicly available/published. no advance reader copies, works in progress, or similar.

I assume you're a very colorful person! Either surrounding yourself with lots of vibrant colors or wearing them by dying your hair or colorful clothes. To me if you were a rock, you'd be a prismatic crystal, reflecting so much color. No one glimpse of you under a light is the same, and that just adds to your brilliance. You seem so full of color, of vibrant life!

i mostly wear black or gray or sometimes blue, but im not super into color coordination.

i do love rainbows though so I have lots of rainbow things hung up in my room. i should get a prism, i think that would be fun!

dyed my hair (blue purple red in a fade) & it's making me so so so so so happy every time I remember my hair is fun colors i flappy stim for a few minutes :D

An important reminder for my autistic and otherwise less socially inclined friends: Remember to ask for help if you can't do something by yourself!

I got another glo pals jar last week, but the screws for the battery pack were done up so tightly that I couldn't get it open. It didn't occur to me that I could ask for help, so I just reported it as defective and requested a replacement from the company.

They obligingly send out this second one, but this one was too tight too. I was about ready to give up when I remembered that my caregiver is much physically stronger than me, and I could ask for her help.

I did, and she got some kind of ratchet thing to make the screwdriver handle longer, so she had more leverage, and she got the screws loose for me!

It seems like a small and obvious thing to those without social deficits, but to us, it can be really hard to remember that other people can be a source of help and support. So go ask for help!

i hate going to the orthopedist every time i go they say something different

the diagnosis doesn't even really matter to me so much except that each thing they changed means a different treatment plan.

& every. single. time. they say "do another round of PT then come back". then I get back & they decide to transfer me to a new doctor or change their mind about what the problem is

been diagnosed & undiagnosed & rediagnosed too many times. i hate it i just want to feel better. even if i don't move like an abled person don't care about that i will always look disabled i just don't want to be in pain anymore

send me a piece of media featuring a disabled character, whether your own draft or an existing work, and i'll write a review about the disability representation.

i will be best with media featuring deaf or autistic characters since those are my main disabilities but i will review for any condition.

no promise on timeline. my goal is to do these over the summer; i will be fastest with books because i take my e reader with me everywhere.
