It had only been a couple of days since the stranger’s unexpected visit to the orphanage. Though -- - guest, made it sound as though he’d intended to go there, or was perhaps invited, where as he had simply been found by a number of the children from the near by orphanage who had gathered around the terrifying sight. There, he’d barely managed to drag himself along the soil below, his body caked in it, his skin flushed with colour from the warm and merciless rays of sunlight that had beaten down on him. Yet there had been so little strength left, not enough to even utter a single word, his voice lost to him as the children screamed from fright, scurrying away from the dishevelled male. Maria de la Joya had quickly followed the noise, her concerns with one thing, and one thing only -- - the safety of the children. 

What had greeted him next, was Maria stood over his weakened state, shotgun in hand, aimed and ready, pain radiating in those blue eyes that seemed to shriek of an spoken life. "We do not want any trouble here. Leave now, or I will have to shoot you.” She’d told him without hesitation, no hint of a flinch. The man, however, pushed himself from the ground with what little strength had remained in his dirt trodden body, forcing the gun up in her hands, pushing it away, anywhere but upon him -- - without lifting a single finger. “Drohe mir nicht.” He warned from his dry, sandpaper like throat, icy blue eyes narrowed, standing his ground despite every last morsel of his body begging him to simply lay down and close his eyes. He wasn’t even sure what he would have done, had it not been for the innocent voices behind him, those same children quivering in fear as they looked upon him, pleading with him not to hurt Maria. Seeing that fright, that terror, sparkling in their eyes, he finally seemed to give in, eyes rolling into the back of his head as unconsciousness finally claimed him.

For the next few days he’d drifted in and out, mutterings of both English and German seeping between his lips, until finally he seemed to properly awaken -- - tied down to the bed beneath him, at first. Though once Maria had spoken with him, coming to learn that he remembered nothing before waking on the ground, no name, no memories, with that, Maria decided that he would stay until he felt well enough to travel, hoping that, in time, he might come to remember just who he was and why he was there.

As a few days passed, finally, the man was able to leave the confinement of his bed, instead found standing in front of a mirror, carefully shaving the untempt beard and moustache that had crept across his skin. Though as Maria began to make her way to the room they’d given him, a tray with soup, bread, and a glass of water in her hands, there was someone else she thought should meet him. “Simon, would you take this to our guest for me please?” She asked the CyberLife unit, a warm smile pulling at her lips. “You missed all of the excitement.” She lightly added with an amused huff, offering the tray to the blonde. “His name is Joseph. At least... that’s what Migdalia has decided to name him.”

There was no sense of unease or an instinct to fight or flee as soon as Simon watched the newcomer's steps, although the minimal difference in size between the two would have been reason enough to sense an intimidating aura. But the PL600 had enough experience, both at the orphanage and during his time at the hospital, to understand when it was wise to approach someone who was hostile to you - which this man certainly was not. He remembered Mary's words, how kindly she had spoken of him, and since the two of them seemed to have already made that all-important first contact, the blond was particularly interested in what this stranger was all about. Joseph.

So the house assistant offered the maximum of a casually and good-naturedly smile at best as the unit welcomed the message of thanks for the lunch delivery, clasping his hands behind his back while Simon also tilted his head a little to one side until the two were less distant from each other to allow for proper communication. However, what the android first observed and what was generally noticeable about him was the manner in which his new guest behaved. He appeared very restrained, almost stern in demeanour when confronted by strangers, but this was not foreign territory for the blond male nurse. Although Maria didn't reveal much about how the man ended up here of all places in Detroit, there may have been a more profound motive.  "I hope it is alright to remind you to eat, for I have heard that you prefer not to touch your meal at times," the PL600 replied with a smile plastered on his cheeks and a warm radiance surrounding the young being as Simon decided to lean against the nearest table with one arm while his sky-blue eyes focused their attention on the human. There was not a single moment that could make him break eye contact, for he could understand the mutual inquisitiveness that the two might harbour for each other. But when Joseph stared at him so wordlessly until a single palm lifted and - he didn't know why, but deep inside him there was a hint of a tingling sensation, dull and almost imperceptible, but Simon thought the sensation was nothing but a coincidence and unaccountable. 

"I- um..." the CyberLife unit stammered at first, puzzled by the expression of the man who claimed he could sense the metal inside, but the blond preferred not to dwell on it too much and opted to merely nod in response to Joseph's words. "I mean ... I do. I don't know how many of my species you might have met, but I'm an android, you know?" Simon leaned back from the table and stood upright again, but only dared to take a step closer and extend his hand to the dark blond man in front of him as the caregiver disclosed the plastic-coated exoskeleton beneath his synthetic skin, white as an eggshell.  "I do indeed have metal inside me, but ... only to a minimal extent, as it is much safer for androids to live with it. We are made of a special kind of plastic that makes us resistant to electricity, weather, water and much more."  Sliding his hand back down, Simon gently bit his bottom lip to keep himself from straying too far from the subject or talking too much while the material of his skin delicately covered his knuckles and fingers all over again. "I am a product of CyberLife, but ... I hope I'm not a burden to you as an android. I've only been working here a short time, and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of each other in the near future."

It turned out that it was indeed a strikingly good idea to divide the work shifts somehow. Recently, Simon had accepted a secondary position as a child care worker and nurse at an orphanage, as he could compensate for his days off at the hospital with this occupation, as Simon hardly did anything in his free time anyway. Therefore, this opportunity more than suited his needs and he agreed to work part-time - partly due to the fact that he was more than capable of managing the children. But that had been part of his programming all along, and the android had never really been able to switch it off; he was designed for such tasks.

Although it had been a while already since his last interaction with a child, he felt validated and welcomed from day one, just like the children who were seeing someone like Simon for the first time or were even recounting that their parents had also once owned or still owned an android, depending on the situation following the revolution or the general interaction with the machine in general. Needless to add, it was no longer uncommon to find active relationships between humans and androids.

The announcement of a new visitor, however, was not conveyed to the PL600 unit until the day the blond caretaker entered the orphanage for his next shift at noon - which merely involved spending the night in a separate room in the building. A few groups of caregivers would do something with the children on the weekend, walking into town, having ice cream or to even visit the distant amusement park where once a group of Jerry's with the characteristic of swarm thinking had been left behind. Since the revolution came to an end, after two years that park has been reopened and the Jerry's had been refurbished or, sadly, even discarded if repair could not rescue them. As the Jerry's already had deviated, it was their own choice whether to remain or leave. The kids loved those friendly, ginger-haired workers, and each time Simon turned up there, the friendly hive-mind would recognize him - for a handful of Jerry's had made it to Jericho once too, making Simon familiar with them and exceedingly trusted friends.

While the domestic assistant stood in the lounge, taking off his jacket, he faced the blackboard, which was run through a machine like some kind of hologram. The blackboard contained a list of chores and various other duties to be done by different staff members, including cooking meals, doing the shopping, laundering the children's clothes and also collecting the voluntary donations that were distributed to various places in Detroit and consisted of money, new clothes or groceries that were fresh. On average, the orphanage was also in the fortunate position of being well funded by the state.

Hearing the voice of his colleague Maria, the blonde turned and greeted her with a friendly expression in his eyes before he was suddenly proffered the tray. "Oh? What happened? I do hope it was nothing serious?" the PL600 queried with a niggling inquisitiveness in his voice, yet Maria's smile was already letting him know that it had only been incidental, and he heaved a sigh of relief as he accepted the tablet in perfectly balanced hands and gave her a nod. "I... think I'd like to meet our new guest. But, um, you say it's not a child...?"

A man suffering from amnesia who was found utterly debilitated at the door of the orphanage? Odd, Simon merely harboured the hope that the children were not too frightened by this sight, but surely Maria had it all under her control. Gesturing in understanding as he caught his co-worker's last words, Simon accepted the task as the android headed for the mentioned room of this stranger, Joseph, they now called him. The CyberLife unit fervently wished that this man wouldn’t mean or even cause any distress and chaos and that he only appeared with only the best intentions. 

Eventually reaching the door, Simon observed the door was already opened by a minimal gap, but still attempted to knock politely, although his hands were busy to announce his admittance. "Hello?" the blonde carer enunciated as he entered, setting the tray gingerly on the nearest desk before inquiring about the stranger. "I don't think we've met, my name is Simon. I'll - I’m here to bring your food."

          Resources can get anyone a long way.   Money.   Time.   How much was poured into his own creation?   Add it to the list of items he knows.   It’s with some distaste that David reflects on what exactly he was created for;  to serve his father,  and his interests.   Among other things,  that means he needs his vast databases of knowledge.

          But it’s more than that.   More than just pools of pre-programmed knowledge to pull from.   It’s in his nature,  so to speak,  to learn.   If he doesn’t know,  and it strikes his interest or he’s set to the task,  he finds out.   Resourcefulness and inquisitive determination seem to come naturally.

          For some,  this is a problem.   For others,  an asset.   Knowing things makes enemies and allies alike.

Daniel was well aware that there were other artificially created beings of human creation out there, outside his city, outside the country, but would never have expected to meet one himself one day - let alone ever get into a conversation with another android. Possibly this was also only a matter of time until someone would even dare to be a respectable and successful competitor to CyberLife, especially after the triumphal revolution of the androids and CyberLife gradually decreased in commercial value. However, the caretaker unit cared very little about that, as he neither wanted anything to do with his originator, nor the company he left behind like a cowardly dog to pull the strings in the background - deciding over the outcome of humans and androids like a mid-afternoon match of chess. At first Daniel felt reluctant about encountering the fellow android, who could be termed a sort of cousin based on the identical stall in the market. But that was how he conducted himself with presumably any living humanoid creatures, be they men or machinery, no faith in those who betrayed him, nor in those whom he considered his own brothers and sisters. “Consider me a little envious.” murmured the blonde droid, as he too offered a bit of a smile himself, head turned towards the other blonde while a narrowed, yet curious gaze placed itself towards the other unit, though kept a certain distance safety distance towards this cousin who named himself David.  Based on the brief conversation the two were already engaging in, Daniel could already discern how abundant the knowledge stored in the other had been, unknowing whether it had been stored beforehand or whether David had accumulated it all over time - as Daniel himself had to do in order to endure following his period of deviation, be it through upgrades, stolen software improvements for his system, acquiring more human components so as not to be conspicuous as a machine in the first place, if that should be required. To conceal himself, to guard himself. The PL600 nevertheless nodded in acquiescence and leaned against the metallic handrail of the platform of a park where he encountered David that evening and engaged him in dialogue, quickly comprehending that David was not actually human, nor was he a CyberLife product. 

"That is commendable, nevertheless. CyberLife droids are granted finite programmable storage knowledge, precisely sufficient to gratify the humans we served, and not to delve further into aspects that are not our purview. That should not be our cause, you know? And now that we are deviant, we have to learn by ourselves how to understand this world." Blue eyes settled upon the cousin unit, his gaze constricted, almost spiteful, but this was his regular countenance. The past clouded his expression with a grim shadow, the benign countenance of any PL600 who still had the chance to live years after the short-lived war. “Are you bound to the humans, David?”
