We’ve collected suggestions from Eurovision and language fans all over Tumblr, as well as adding in a few of their own, and now it’s time to vote. Some of the songs have unfortunately had to be replaced as they were missing from Spotify (gasp!) but we think the final effect is still quite nice. The full playlist is here.

FINLAND (Finnish)

An upbeat song exploring the ups and downs of a relationship Evelina compares to a ‘Rollercoaster’.

UNITED KINGDOM (English)

A song in which a girl promises to always love their ex because they’re meant to be. It sounds a lot less stalkerish in song form.

UKRAINE (Ukrainian)

In a song whose title translates as ‘Witch’, Illaria sings of being a woman enchanting and lying to her lover. There’s the metaphor of her being a spider tangling her helpless lover into a web, leading them away into a field and making them forget. The song ends with her asking her former lover to remember her, and all her lies.

MOLDOVA (Romanian)

An optimistic song asking why people give up after failed relationships and won’t accept that they’re over, when they should open up and make room for new love and try to stay positive. The song says that there’s always someone out there if you can make room for them in your heart.

BELGIUM (French)

Fairly well known in a couple of Eurovision countries, this song is about a boy not knowing his father. It’s apparently about Stromae’s father, who was killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and the title translates as ‘Where are you father?’ when read as ‘Papa où t'es?’

Can I add Find Me by Birdy for UK and English please? But also Vuoristorataa by Evalina for Finland please? (The song talks about her relationship and she says it's like a rollercoaster)

THE FAROE ISLANDS (Faroese) Not technically a Eurovision country (b/c not technically independent enough from Denmark to enter on its own) but all European languages are welcome in Autre Eurovision!

The song title translates as ‘In Your Eyes’ and describes all the beautiful songs that can be seen in a lover’s eyes.

We’re very excited about this one because, y’know, it’s The Corrs. They’re singing about being in love while having a female drummer and generally being all around sex symbols.

Autre Eurovision 2017

If you’re from the Australia, Ireland, Malta or the UK and want to submit an English song, we’re absolutely for it - this is about celebrating all European national languages (de jure, de factor and all the rest) after all.

We only ask that you don’t pick the obvious Top 10 pop hits. Try and go a little bit different. Showcase an act from your country that isn’t so much of a global star. 

(Or send us your Sias and your Little Mixes if you really want - we’ll still stick them up!)

THE NETHERLANDS (Dutch)

Unfortunately, Ik Ga Weg was not available to include as a YouTube link, but it’s too good a song to pass up on - thank you to our Dutch anon for the recommendation! From what we can tell, it’s in the style of your usual top charts rap: he’s making lots of cash, he’s proud of his career, and he’s going to enjoy it because by gum, he’s rich and he loves it. As Ali B says in the hook: “I’m leaving... come and join my team”

GERMANY (German)

A song that captures perfectly the feeling we’ve all experienced of not fitting in, that feeling of being absolutely completely lost and wanting desperately to reinvent ourselves. That feeling that we need a Waldbrand - a forest fire - to burn us from the inside out until we can rise from the ashes as a new, better version of ourselves.
