Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis), the pink isn't a skin pigment. It’s caused by thermoregulation. The dolphins have a dense network of blood vessels just beneath their skin. When they are active or need to cool down, the blood vessels dilate (expand), and the blood flow near the surface makes their skin appear bright pink—essentially, they are "blushing" to regulate their body temperature.
