I attended this conference earlier this year. It's all experiential. This one was particularly unique in that the staff was entirely Black-representing various aspects of the diaspora. Attending these conferences is part of my research as an artist working with here and now aesthetics. I also attempt to stay connected to this work/this world to continue learning about /understanding scholarship around group relations and race that began when I was a graduate student at NYU years ago. In the past, I’ve held several roles in this system: conference administrator, consultant and member. These theories provide a powerful lens through which to view our encounters.Â

I was reading Jenny Odell’s Book, How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy. I led me to think more deeply about the relationship between live art forms and the attention economy. Surely they are part of this economy. They compete with each other and against digital attention economies.Â

This video was set to be a part of a series presented in April at the Tate Modern (UK), presented by The Kitchen (NYC).Â
Description:Â This programme asserts the place of video as a crucial medium for self-representation. It allows artists to have a demonstrable control over how they are imaged, and then to complicate that reception.
