I have been reading a lot of criticism about my bias. I have to admit it hurts. But criticism is fine because that is how people grow. I know they will take this experience and use it to improve their craft.
That being said, I like her tone and how natural her voice sounds in that performance, so I was really excited.
I can imagine that this style of singing might not work well for some songs. I hope they can find a plan or compromise to deliver a great performance.
Speaking of Ongaku, that slip didn't bother me at all. Mistakes happen 🤷♀️
I can't wait to hear more from them. Maybe... just maybe I can let myself hope that they will have more activities together.

Animax Musix Kalafina Set Review
Someone: How many times have you watched that video?
Me: Yes!
My God! I was not expecting this at all. I was patiently waiting for the Kalafina Anniv Live 2026 on Mar 14... and then THIS happened. You don't know how happy this made me.
The costumes are beautiful. So elegant. Perfect for each member. I can't wait to see more of it. Keiko seriously upped her charm here. That curly hair suits her very much. All three of them look so beautiful like they're still in their 20s. Seriously… what is the secret? 😆
The setlist was great. It was very balanced with all three leading. I was a little surprised that they chose Ongaku instead of another song with anime tie-ins. But after watching them enjoy that performance, I finally understood. They want to have fun on that stage, and ongaku is a very good choice for that.
Their stage is so lively and powerful. Seriously exciting to watch. I've read some comments on Twitter from people who attended. They said they liked it a lot, especially Magia. I can also see the Kalafina ladies enjoying the performance. Their smiles are so brilliant. I couldn't stop smiling watching them. They really brought their A-game. Their stage presence is so strong, especially Hikaru. Her emotes are so cool, voice very powerful. Keiko was capturing hearts left and right with her stable singing and visuals. And then Wakana with her strong singing. She does get breathless at times, and there was a small mistake in the Kajiurago part in Ongaku, but it didn't spoil anything. Still an amazing performance.
My only complaint is how sometimes I can't hear Keiko's harmony.
For longtime fans, this feels monumental for Kalafina. Seeing Kalafina perform on the Animax Musix stage together with other anisong artists felt really special and gave me so much hope for the future. Here's hoping for more activities with them together, especially concerts like these or even one-man lives.
Why are the girls looking more gorgeous than ever. They are glowing. <3

There's a live stream available on the VOD streaming service LEMINO but it seems to be quite difficult to access for overseas viewers (unfortunately, I have no experience with it but they do have some sort of georestriction and might also only take Japanese credit cards T_T). Still, chances are high that we'll get a proper recording soon so let's keep our fingers crossed. There will also be broadcasts on March 14 and 22. => Bilibili Link

My thoughts: All right, here we go. I've been quite honest about not liking the original song very much. There's something about it that doesn't appeal to me but I can't quite pinpoint what it is. For all intents and purposes, this is the sort of music I typically like but weirdly enough, something is missing from the original song. Maybe the verses aren't melodic enough for my taste or I guess I am just not into the melody as a whole? The original singer also doesn't do it for me unfortunately... Then again, I might just not be a big fan of the rather simple and more intimate structure of the song...who knows? Needless to say, despite some minor reservations, I was still super hyped to hear Kalafina's version because there's no denying that this is a solid match for their style and I was curious what they would do with it.
Having listened to the full version now, I must say, I am completely smitten and utterly in love. I can't help but be a little emotional right now since this is a truly special moment🥹. First new song in almost 10 years and even though it is "just a cover", I still consider this a proper release, after all, it's new music from my girls. I feel so blessed right now.
Most of my doubts already disappeared when we got the "short movie" but the full version further cemented my love for Kalafina's cover of the song. Already adore this version so much more than the original!! Satoshi Takebe has come up with an incredibly charming musical arrangement that elevates the original composition, there's much more depth to it and it perfectly fits Kalafina's image. I could listen to just the instrumental parts forever, they are so beautiful.
As for the vocals, the first verse and chorus are honestly flawless😍. No notes! 100000/10!!! Their vocals wonderfully encapsulate the whimsical and gentle vibes of the song. And I really dig the lower register in the first chorus! Huge shout-out to Keiko whose vocals are a true revelation, especially in verse 1. I am a sucker for her lower register as much as the next person but I knew she wouldn't use her super deep and dark voice for something like this. I kinda expected her to go for the usual overly cutesy type of singing but this is so much more refined than what we used to get from her in the past. Yes, there's some definitive cuteness in her voice but it's not happening at the expense of her vocal integrity. It's honestly so perfect, she really hit the spot there for me!! I also really enjoy what Hikaru is doing in verse 1, her lines are so gentle and sweet. Not overbearing at all. I am still not a huge fan of that one short section in verse 2 where Hikaru is singing in a fiercer style, her vocals are a bit too strong for my liking at the end. I understand what they are going for of course, this is clearly on purpose since they want to build momentum towards the end of each verse when it transitions to the chorus. Wakana's vocals in verse 1 are also not as gentle as Keiko's or Hikaru's because she is the one singing the part leading up to the chorus. But I guess with Wakana's voice it works, I love how she sounds here, especially since her voice is also the most prominent in the chorus so it's a more fluid transition...Other than that, verse 2 is super lovely too, particularly when their voices are overlapping. While the first chorus is a bit more somber (in a good way!) due to the lower register, the second chorus definitely packs a punch and hits me right in the feels. And then we have those gorgeous instrumentals leading right up to the final section which focuses almost entirely on the girls' vocals, a really nice way to end the song😍(although I will say that I probably would have done a grander chorus rather than an intimate one for the finish line but that's just personal preference).
Another thing I really appreciate about this is that the girls didn't simply default back to their usual Kalafina style of singing. They incorporated their individual style to highlight what they had achieved as solo artists throughout the past few years and I think that's great. The switch between the singing style in the verses and chorus is a lovely nod to both their current solo work as well as their old-school harmony work in Kalafina.
Keiko was such a revelation here. I was not expecting this from her. Her voice and singing just worked so well and added so much to the song. From her 1st word she has taken my attention. Wakana's mid range is always nice to hear. Tho her high notes are a little shaky. Hikaru in the first verse is nice but the 2nd verse needs something that I can't explain(sorry, I'm not an expert in analyzing singing). As for the last chorus, I dont know what's bothering me there. Maybe how disjointed it sounds. Its not wrapping everything nicely. But that's just me.
The instrumental is very good. Kudos to Satoshi Takebe. He made such an interesting take on this song.
Additional: But even if I have some criticism, I am still excited for anything they would release. I will continue to support them in the future.

7th Anniversary‼︎〜Feb 6th is FuMuFuMu Day〜
Today, February 6th, marks the 7th anniversary of my solo debut!! \\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// (I've been growing a pothos at the agency office since summer, and the roots have really grown!) Over the past seven years, I've thought about and worried about so many things, and there have been many times when I felt hopelessly depressed and stopped in my tracks because I felt like I couldn't go any further. All of those times have made me who I am today, and I believe they influence the music I create today.
Lately, the times when I stop and think about all those complicated things are almost always before a live performance. For some reason, I always start worrying about various things right before a performance. But strangely, I always find the right answers just in time. The very moment I've exhausted myself and think to myself that I can't do it anymore, a light shines through and I realise, "Ah yes, the answer is right there!!!." It's strange, isn't it... 😳 I believe it's the moment when all of my feelings and the history of music within myself perfectly align to bring my voice to life. Then, all that's left is to deliver all my feelings and my singing to everyone, with everything I have at that moment. The greatest joy of music is being able to share the same special moment in time and space with everyone. It contains so much happiness, and makes you feel so many miracles and emotions that can only ever exist in that single moment. Music is truly amazing. Singing has always been a part of me and it has helped me overcome so many things. Even in sad and difficult times, singing has made me smile and given me strength. And it is because you all always welcomed me with a smile, and always supported me, that I am here today. It is you all who have given me the courage to move forward. Thank you so much.
For me, singing is joy itself, so I want to continue to share that joy with everyone, and make everyone smile. I want to continue cherishing my beloved songs and music forever. I want to make more people smile, so my musical journey continues to give shape to my feelings. I hope you will continue to support me just as I am. Once again, I'm grateful to be celebrating my 7th anniversary today!! Thank you so much!!! \(^o^)/

Another news article/report regarding Kalafina’s Special Live at Nikko Toshogu Shrine
I forgot to add this info in my last post about the live but @chibalein reminded me again that there were lots of cameras around, I totally forgot to mention them, sorry! Lots of fans were saying that there were cameras. I don’t wanna get my hopes up of course but it can’t hurt to be a tiny bit hopeful that maybe, we’ll get a broadcast or a release some time in the future. I mean, wouldn’t this be a very cool special release to celebrate their 10th Anniversary???

Kalafina Live Report - World Heritage Special Live @ Nikkô PART 1/2
September 30th 2017 was a beautiful day for me. I visited the famous city of Nikkô in Tochigi Prefecture for the first time, which I wanted to do for a long time. Nikkô itself doesn’t really offer much except the famous tourist spots like Tôshôgû Shrine, Rinnôji Temple, Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Shinkyô Bridge and others, which makes it a perfect 1-Day/2-Day trip opportunity, since it only takes about 3 hours from Tokyo to get there and even less if you are rich and can take the Shinkansen. The weather was nice on this day, though not as hot as in Tokyo/Yokohama area and we (my boyfriend and me) spent morning and noon visiting the above mentioned places. Tôshôgû Shrine is a really impressive cluster of buildings and surpasses any other shrine I visited so far in Japan in terms of beauty and splendor. The buildings are covered in gold, white and red and with the sun shining on them it was an awesome view ( I won’t bother you with photos, all you want is Kalafina, right? :D). A definite recommendation if you visit Tokyo area and have a day to spare! But: you better go on a weekday and avoid summer. It was end of September and still very warm and crowded.
Anyway, directly at the entrance of the Shrine was the stage where Kalafina would perform later that day. Look at the plaza, it is so small! I couldn’t believe that this was the right place, since there weren’t any chairs yet (they would be put up once the shrine’s visiting hours were over). Later, around 1200 chairs and fans would fit into this area. Also, you see the huge pagoda behind the stage and all the trees? They would play a small role at the concert (but more on that in part 2).

Kalafina Live Report - World Heritage Special Live @ Nikkô PART 2/2
Now it’s finally about the songs :D
The concert began when the lights were darkened and the musicians took their seats, shortly testing their instruments, namely Sakurada at the piano and the Konno Hitoshi Strings… at the strings. Sakurada started by playing a short solo and Kalafina entered the stage in their super pretty white dresses (especially Hikaru looked great!). At this point, I want to mention (which of course you already know) that all songs were in acoustic version. With no big surprise, Kalafina started the special live with “storia”, which sounds quite different without drums and so on. I have heard this song so often by now that it doesn’t really impress me anymore, but this version really got it right and the Cello – aaah, so cool. Those who read my Live Report of the 9+ONE concert in Kitakyushu know that I found the acoustics in the hall very strange sometimes and often the girls drowned out each other, with Wakana often being uncomfortably loud – this wasn’t the case AT ALL in Nikkô. Maybe because of the trees that carried the echo better than an enclosed room, but the acoustics/the sound were great! You could hear each girl and the instruments perfectly without them interfering with each other. This fact made this concert especially memorable, in my opinion.
Anyway, “storia” was a beautiful introduction, while “Mirai” made me feel… well, the feeling you feel when you hear “Mirai”. The stage was illuminated in purple light and gave it a mysterious touch, quite the contrast to the song which is rather bright but not any less disappointing. But I admit, in acoustic version this song gets cooler and the Strings were again killing it (I apologize, but I might use this phrase more often from now on – because these dudes REALLY killed it with their super string power). Kalafina moved around a bit, going from one side of the stage to another, with happy faces and creating a happy mood. Especially Keiko felt the groove and swung around during the instrumental parts. Since there were no upbeat songs played this time, the crowd sat still the whole time, so I felt quite cold at this point.

「Ghibli wo Utau Vol.#2」 Trailer
A trailer for "Ghibli wo Utau Vol.# 2," (a tribute album to Studio Ghibli music produced by Takebe Satoshi), has finally been released! It contains a snippet of Kalafina's track "Arrietty's Song" so be sure to check it out!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what we are hearing so far (their voices are blending super well together - flawless harmonies😍) although I stand by my opinion that I am not a particularly huge fan of the song choice itself (I am happy to be proven wrong by the full version and I have a feeling it will quickly start growing on me). The Celtic vibe and fairytale-like whimsical nature of the song are obviously a perfect match for Kalafina (no doubt about that) but I currently can't imagine how it will properly bring out the charms of their vocals with the way the original song is arranged. I don't mean to sound too critical because I honestly love the little snippet and I am beyond grateful we are getting this new release from them. And Kalafina's version already sounds better to me than the original so that's a huge win!

Interview With Hikaru
– The three of you got together for the first time in about seven years to hold "Kalafina Anniversary LIVE 2025" last year. It's already been a year since then, what are your thoughts looking back on it now?
It's been such a long time since the three of us stood on stage together, and I had this feeling of "yes!! This is it!” It's strange because even though at the end of the day a live is a live, the feeling of a solo live and a Kalafina live are completely different. Of course, it's all about the harmony of three members, so positions are different from my solo performances, but when I am singing with the two of them together, I naturally become Kalafina Hikaru! It was so ingrained in me that it surprised me. However, after a seven-year gap, I had to recapture the way I sing and deliver my music as Kalafina's Hikaru, so that performance was the result of working so hard towards the day of the performance. However, I did feel regretful that I could have done a little more, so I'm happy that we are getting another chance to sing together as a trio again at the upcoming anniversary lives. I hope to deliver Kalafina's music and our harmony in a manner that has evolved and deepened even more compared to the previous live.
– Keiko, who I spoke to earlier, said that when you were waiting on stage just before the performance, she wasn’t nervous at all, and she told you and Wakana, who were feeling nervous that it’s all going to be okay.
Yes, that’s right! (laughs) The three of us were standing behind the gauze curtain, and Keiko said with a smile, "I'm not nervous at all," and I was like, “really?!” I'm the type that gets nervous easily, and at that time I felt the pressure of having to show everyone the Kalafina they had so desperately waited for. We each have our own achievements in solo activities, but everyone who came to the live concert that day had come because they wanted to see Kalafina! I felt a heavy weight of responsibility for carrying a part of that group. But I was also very happy that I wasn't alone, so I kept looking at Keiko and Wakana, thinking, "Look at them and calm down...!" It's a view you can't enjoy when you're performing solo. Thinking back on it now, I was really nervous of course, but at the same time I also felt very calm inside.
– The moment the gauze curtain fell, cheers of joy rang out from the audience.
The excitement was there. I honestly didn't know what kind of reaction we would get. That moment was exhilarating, and seeing everyone who had come in person, hearing their cheers, and being in the same space as all of them was truly overwhelming. It was our first live performance in about seven years, so what was striking was that there were more new people in the audience than I had expected. People who had heard of Kalafina after we had already disbanded, and people who couldn't go to our concerts back then but were finally able to make it now, they all came to see us. I was also really grateful to all the veteran fans who created a wonderful atmosphere by welcoming these newcomers so warmly. That live performance was meant for that day, it was a once in a lifetime experience and we thought we would never be able to gather like this again so it was a truly precious time.
