Success! After several failed attempts, I finally was able to get the correct wrap for the closure on one of my silver arm rings. This style in general shows up in a number of Viking-Age Scandinavian finds, but this piece in particular is based on one from Rollag municipality in Buskerud county, Norway; the original is held at the Cultural History Museum in Oslo and is shown in the last photo.

I finally got around to redoing the closure on my Eskilstuna arm ring prototype. The original one I did felt like a compromise for the fact that I either didn't start with enough material for the elaborate wrap or didn't taper it out enough, and I was really not happy with it.

However, I found another arm ring from Eskilstuna that has the common crossover wrap closure (shown in the last photo) and decided to give mine that style and make it look like it was meant to. Because of the difference in the punchwork it is technically a mix of these two, but it now feels like a finished piece rather than "good enough". This will also be the closure that my Eskilstuna arm rings have that I sell through Etsy.

It's been a while (close to two years I think), but for those of you who have held on here is some of my recent silver work, all direct or close replicas of originals from Viking-Age Scandinavia. Since my last update I've officially gotten my business license and registered Hearthfire Nordic Wares in Washington State, started doing merchant stuff at events as well as expanding my online shop and had my work featured in two stores as well as the Nordic Museum in Ballard. So, my time away has certainly been productive.

Some projects from this last week: Gotland style arm rings in brass and bronze. A silver ring based off of a find from Birka. It still needs to be bent to shape and polished, but it's getting there. Two stump anvils; the flat-top one is based on a find from Trelleborg and the rounded one is based on an original from the Mästermyr find.
