( cis female | she/her | elle fanning ) —— isn’t that AVALON MULCIBER? yeah that is them, outside the three broomsticks! they used to be in SLYTHERIN but apparently they now work as a MODEL/SOCIALITE. sybill once said that they reminded her of ghost tours of old mansions, glitter eyeshadow, a shattered mirror, and silk chiffon, which seems about right. anyway i’ve heard they’re still a bit SHALLOW, INSECURE, and DISHONEST, they’re TWENTY-ONE now but some things never change! i wonder how being a PUREBLOOD is affecting them after school, especially now they’re an UNMARKED DEATH EATER? i guess only time will tell… —— [ alek ]
BIO (tw medical, abuse, neglect):
maybe this should be a cautionary tale of why you should supervise your children
children plural because there are four mulcibers: yvain (24), isolde (23), cadeyrn (21), and avalon (21). they’ve also got two step-siblings, who avalon does not speak of nor two.
the father, galahad, was always busy-- with what exactly it was never quite clear, but he certainly found enough of it to never be home. avalon got the sense this was on purpose and considers it a very wise choice.
their mother, maura, was unfortunately not busy. if she could have gotten a damn hobby or joined a pyramid scheme, our story would probably end right here.
but she didn’t.
maura had always been ill, since all the way back in school. with what exactly, it was never quite clear. she’d have fainting spells. she’d say something about the air.
it never seemed to be that serious though, because a few days of bed rest and attention always seemed to clear it right up. no one really thought about it all that much.
until her children grew ill. it started with isolde as a toddler, spread to baby avalon, then to caderyn, and finally yvain.
maura took such good care of them though, going to every single healer appointment and taking careful notes. she would have medical books stacked on the tables, bundles of herbs, herds of specialists.
until eventually someone noticed that despite maura’s constant attention, the kids usually got much better when she wasn’t around.
she’d been poisoning them. and herself.
galahad divorced her.
he got the kids, of course
this did not mean he suddenly decided to be a parent. yvain was eleven, isolde was ten, and the twins were eight. surely that was old enough to just shove them off onto tutors, right?
they terrorised the tutors. the tutors suggested therapy. galahad fired the tutors. rinse and repeat.
he remarried during avalon’s third year of school. his new wife and her children quickly learned to stay in the east wing of manor, with the mulciber kids in the west.
as a group, they were generally best to be avoided. individually, they were.. still best to be avoided but usually less bold.
perhaps that’s why avalon, alone, caught mary macdonald off guard. what happened next is up for interpretation: avalon called it a prank gone wrong, mary probably would have called it assault.
avy cried very convincingly when asked about it, which is probably why she got away with it. slap on the wrist, told not to try pranks that might put people in st mugos.
she left school without being caught injuring any other students. or she would have, but an opportunity presented itself. her stepbrother was accused of something rather nasty, the sort of thing that would hurt a career.
avalon’s grades were lower and her reputation was already tarnished. her stepbrother’s father made an offer-- take the blame and he’d set up a beautiful life for her in london.
avy once again spent a day crying in dumbledore’s office. this time he’d probably rather not let her walk away with a slap on the wrist, but there wasn’t much he could do besides send her home a week early with a nasty letter
❝ oh, yeah — smart idea. if you want to get us killed, that is. ❞ rikard scoffed, was he really the only one around hogsmeade with a brain ? he swore people were being extremely dramatic about the evening, but it was also better to be safe than sorry. ❝ what makes you think that isn’t where this whole thing originated from ? great spot for the bad guys to camp out. ❞
“Well, then we’d be the ones to catch them. Your father would be pretty happy about that, wouldn’t he?” Avalon wasn’t entirely sure there were bad guys around to begin with, given that she usually was one of the ‘bad guys’ and yet hadn’t heard anything. She let herself smile, though she still kept a careful watch on their surroundings. “We all daydream about playng the hero, yeah? This is our chance to actually do it.”
she was going to stay right here to watch the others react while she was off to the side, looking at the younger wix she had rose an eyebrow. “sure, go if you want,” she wouldn’t be following, she had a few things she needed to look for, much like her sisters, but she wouldn’t show that worry knowing that no matter what they would be safe. “it’s not haunted.” she says, furthering her point, just tales that people told to make them stop trying to hang out there.
Dammit. If someone didn’t believe the shack was haunted, Avalon’s little plan was pretty much dead on arrival. She did her best to look unsure though, glancing towards the shack for a moment. “I’m not going in there alone-- what if you’re wrong? Even Dumbledore says it’s haunted.”
❝ i cannot think of a plan that is more mental than that , ❞ tristan notes with some criticism , sparing a look at the older person and realizing that maybe it’s something he’d expected marlene to say if she had been here . ❝ nothing to raid there , i’m assuming , unless of course that just makes it the perfect hiding spot don’t you think ? ❞
“The perfect hiding spot? Like, someone else might be hiding there?” Avalon looked back over in the direction of the shack with wide eyes, as if that possibility was just now occurring to her. “They might be hiding anywhere though-- we can’t just stay here!”
who: open ( @beforedawnstarters )
where: hogsmeade
“I think we should go towards the Shrieking Shack.” Avalon hadn’t had to put this much effort into looking upset since the last time she’d been called into Dumbledore’s office, and it hadn’t even paid off yet. Damn, she hoped someone had a real plan going on. “There’s nothing to raid there, right? So it’d be safe-- unless it really is haunted.”
Avalon had not expected it to help anything-- quite the opposite in fact-- and so she had to stop herself from swearing before she turned around to face the person who’d spoke to her. “The lock was already broken!” It had not already been broken. “I swear, I just don’t want to wait around in the open what with all this.”
Someday, I'm gonna live
In your house up on the hill
And when your skinhead neighbor goes missing
I'll plant a garden in the yard, then
They're gluing roses on a flatbed
You should see it, I mean thousands
I grew up here, 'til it all went up in flames
Except the notches in the door frame
