To continue the "Azulon is Rozin lovechild, literally" AU (it desperately needs a better name) I have prepared some Azulon hcs:
•Azulon was made from Sozin's wish, not born like all children are. Created into an image of the Roku Sozin in his depravity and delusional state of mind craved to "have returned to him". But due to the lack of specifics in his wish, Agni and other Great Spirits gifted him with a stranger. (Again with the "be careful what you wish for" stuff)
Therefore Azulon isn't really a human.
Yes, Agni molded his physical form with Sozin's flesh, blood and bone, but was given a spark of Roku's spirit, the Avatar spirit, alongside Agni's Breath of Life. This will have immense consequences later.
•Azulon's fire is beautiful, azure with veins of scarlet, mighty and scorching. That's how Sozin innitially meets him.
In a palace chamber swallowed by bright blue flames, devouring the expensive furniture, the hanging tapestries, the wooden walls and floor, Azulon calmly stands in the center of the room, golden eyes bright with unearthly glow. (Sozin's heart nearly stopped, thinking it was Roku's spirit in the Avatar state, back to avenge himself and his dragon).
•Azulon can't control his fire. No matter how much he meditates beneath the blazing sun, or how many breathing exercises he goes through, the azure fire doesn't bend to his will. It stretches and shrinks and grows and spins the way it prefers.
Agni's act of vengeance, the servants whisper. For the Firstborn the Great Spirit had lost. For the Firstborn the Fire Lord and his lords had slain.
Sozin isn't happy with Azulon's progress. Roku was already a talented firebender at his age; clever and quick on his feet with impeccable breath control and force behind his punch.
He makes his displeasure known.
Next time Azulon trains with his tutors under in the palace grounds, there is a hand-shaped burn mark on his wrist.
•Azulon remembers things (and people) he has no business knowing about in the first place.
He can recall the sound of Ta Min's laughter, the shape and warmth of her hands against his own, and the colour of her eyes when sunlight shines in that one specific angle, making them glow.
He can, with terrifying accuracy, name all of Gyatso's recipes, recall the sour taste of the lemon glaze or the smoothness of the egg crust on pies he had never tasted before.
Without even needing to see or taste them, Azulon can recreate all of Sud's favourite tea blends, crushing herbs and mixing leaves the way the earthbending master likes it.
Azulon remembers faces he's never seen before, can recall events he wasn't around to be in and grieve over people now long gone.
•Azulon has (sort of?) prophetic dreams.
Most of them are futuresight, involving the night of the Great Comet and the genocide of the Air Nomads, but also glimpses of the Hundred Year War and the decimation of the Southern Water Tribe.
Sometimes, he dreams through Roku's eyes. Dreams involving his Team Avatar and the adventures they had throughout his life. Dreams of Roku's family, of the sky and the firm scaly neck of Fang beneath him as they fly up, up, up.
Nightmares about the volcano. This one is... more alive than others.
He usually wakes up screaming afterwards, shaking and sweaty, whispering to himself that it isn't real, that his flesh isn't a charred molten lump. That he's alive and breathing.
He doesn't talk about his dreams to anyone, the gatekeeping icon.
Alcohol, he finds, can be a wonderful friend in really dark times.
(watch me put Azulon through his "Daeron the Drunken" phase!!)
•Azulon can see spirits in the mortal world the way Iroh does in canon show, but unlike his son, Azulon is able to do so without needing to be in the Spirit World first.
Most of the spirits happen to be Dark, so they, uh, tend to play a "Hunt-Azulon-down-for-sport" game if they feel like it.
A Gift from Tui and La, some may say.
•Azulon has Sozin's short temper, Roku's ability to make people effortlessly like him and Ta Min's political prowess and silky tongue.
•Azulon has Sozin's talent when it comes to pai sho, but is really bad at playing other games. He also has Roku's sick dancing moves, so you know he's the star of every party.
•Azulon has phobia of great water bodies; lakes, seas ect. He also can't swim and has no desire to learn.
•Azulon is a big fat liar. He lies to Sozin constantly and enjoys the chaos it creates when the two of them gossip about influential people and wealthy noblemen that may or may not be plotting Sozin's downfall.
He toys with the old man's paranoia the way Azula toys with Zuko and loves it. Icon.
Doof: If I had a nickel for every firelord who burns his firstborn as punishment, I'd have two nickels.
Having memories of past lives must be horrifying (and perhaps it was something inherited from the Yangshen...)Especially if he ever sees Ta Min face to face. Imagine seeing an 82-year-old woman and thinking, "Oh no, she's the woman of my dreams 🤢. Literally"
