Dumb little pikmin captains headcanons or whatever
Sleeplessness and obsession does this to a person. I try to base most on already established canon, but it’s obviously just some fun fan speculation nothing true…yet…anyways enjoy :)
OLIMAR - Always wanted to be a biologist, however Hocotate’s economy and general societal standards shut that dream down quickly. He also has issues with his parents, the poor guy. He met his wife whilst repairing her ship when he was a repairman, hence their spaceship shaped cake on their wedding. Olimar’s daughter is not his daughter, she has blond hair, so either Olimar or his wife dyed their hair, or Olimar’s wife has been cheating on him while he is away. Anyways, Olimar only gets a few days off every few months. No wonder he missed his family and can feel himself becoming more grumpy with age. He knows Hocotates system is corrupt, and would love nothing more than to move to another star system with better pay and more time off. The 1st SS Dolphin took Olimar a long time to build and a lot of money to make, thus why he is so attached to it; a ship made with his own hands and his own money, nothing that could be tied to a corporation
LOUIE - Grown up in the mountain countryside. Louie had neither his mother or father around, both were abusive and neglectful, which resulted in Louie’s aversion to society, seeing people as cruel and not of good intentions, with the exception of Olimar and Nana. Nana too was abusive, but Louie choses not to acknowledge or accept that. Nana adopted Louie after he was abandoned but she has no idea how to raise him (who does at that age?). As a child, Louie spent most of his days working on Nana’s farm doing chores and experimenting with different ingredients and meals. As a young adult, which he is now, Nana’s farm ran into trouble and she was unable to keep it. To keep his and Nana’s life from falling apart, Nana made Louie take up working at Hocotate Freight, much to Louie’s reluctance. Unknown to anyone, Louie really gets his pay by running an underground kitchen of exotic ingredients, not by working at Hocotate Freight, which he clearly doesn’t put any effort into nor does he enjoy it at all. It’s this underground kitchen where he sells the creatures gathered from PNF-404 and really learns and puts his talent for making anything a delicious delicacy to work. That’s why he has a whole list of recipes when he’s on PNF-404. To me Louie has some sort of Southern US accent
ALPH - Alph actually grew up in the rural district of Koppai with his other siblings at his Grandfather Drake’s tiny house, sometimes being looked after by Yorke, the oldest sibling, or Drake himself, cause their mom Jully had it with a buncha random guys, dumped them at Drake’s or with Yorke, and left for the milk, and then eventually died in a shootout. From a very young age, Alph remembers seeing Captain Charlie save Yorke from imminent death, and that has cemented itself in his memory and goal to be just like him (sorry Alph…Charlie’s kind of lost his old self. The Charlie you’re chasing doesn’t exist anymore). Alph got his love for engineering from Drake, who would frequently try and get all his other siblings to witness and eventually have their hands at welding and building engineered things (I honestly have no idea what engineering entails). Alph was the only one who stayed and showed genuine interest so Grandpa Drake taught him everything he knew, which specialized in spaceships. Drake himself designed the S.S. Drake but Alph continued to build it after his death, eventually naming it after his “father”. Alph went to university to pursue advanced engineering and met Brittany there, occasionally taking trips to Coppa Lee to learn about its roots and engineering. Alph also joined the aerospace engineering program of Koppai’s government in hopes of becoming a ranger like Charlie, starting out as a specialist. After Pikmin 3, Alph would become a sergeant and a senior engineer in terms of spaceships
BRITTANY - Hails from the subterranean habitats of Coppa Lee, Koppai’s only moon. The moon fails to support organic life and plants, so whenever Brittany goes down to Koppai, she was always fascinated by its beauty in its flora. Especially what she loved was the fruit her Aunt Bea would bring back to the moon, albeit illegally, for her pastries. Brittany too would follow in those illegitimate steps, smuggling plants onto the moon despite strict laws and customs against any plant life being up there other than produce for consumption. Eventually, Brittany grew to feel too restricted on Coppa Lee and moved to Koppai’s surface, but only for horticultural and botany studies at university as that was all she could afford. She met Alph there when she was on her third year and he was on his first of advanced engineering. The aftermath of Pikmin 3 sees her becoming a senior researcher on PNF-404 flora
CHARLIE - Started out his life real poor, practically rummaging through scraps of treasure and garbage for food. (He even found Elizabeth in the trash, she was his only form of comfort). He hung out with the ducks, who are considered like rats are on Earth, dirty and filthy, but Charlie loved them. Not geese though. People usually got ducks and geese mixed up, geese were the real dirty ones. This is where he conducted his first unofficial missions, saving ducks from danger, 3 of which he remembers fondly as operations rubber ducky stuck up a tree, beached rubber ducky, and rubber ducky stucky. Later after an attack on Koppai’s rural districts, a younger Yorke and Don Bergman got stuck in some debris, and Charlie saved them both from certain demise. This brave effort did not go unnoticed. A very young Alph at the time witnessed this and became infatuated with Charlie. Young Don Bergman and Yorke were extremely thankful, going as far as to tell the Koppai military about him, (I should say that in my opinion Don is a little bit older than Charlie). Don, whom was already a ranger for the military at the time, took Charlie under his wing, ended up being his partner, then something bad happened, broke up, Charlie became Koppai’s most famous and competent ranger, and the rest is history tadaa. To this day, Charlie lovingly recites his first 3 missions, but fails to mention or even acknowledge his first ones with Don. Charlie is currently undergoing the transition to being a major
YORKE - Before I go on to Yorke, I must state it is my personal belief that Pikmin 4 takes place before Pikmin 3. Anyways. Look at his face...bro is either exhausted or smoking space weed. Maybe he gets access to substances from his privileges from working on the AI’s that the dyson sphere that surrounds Koppai and Karut’s sun and the power on Koppai is managed by. This prestigious, extremely valuable job is bound to bring up some connections, some great, others not so much in an ethical standpoint. As a extremely dedicated, smart and talented AI engineer, Yorke is valuable to the Koppaite government and is given access to all government run projects and programs to make sure things are going smoothly, definitely not to distract the public from the increasing food shortages. Yorke, however, notices these patterns of manipulation and finds and joins Don Bergman after sharing concern over the oncoming crisis
NELLE - Like her botanist cousin, she too grew up in Coppa Lee. Instead of being rebellious, Nelle grew to be comfortable in the rigid and mostly lifeless environment of Coppa Lee. The only other lifeforms?Produce and pets, the latter of which she absolutely adored. Pets were the only light on the mining moon, the only ray of light in an otherwise dark underground world besides Brittany and Aunt Bea. So she settled down there to make sure all of them were thriving in the only place their owners could afford to live. Life could be miserable on Coppa Lee, but the best thing she could do was give the animal companions a life worth living in the only place they’d likely ever know. She met Yorke after he brought in his sick cat after hearing she was the best on Koppai, even if she was all the way on the moon. Yorke introduced her to Don Bergman and from there the three created the first attempt at going to PNF-404 to save the planet, albeit unofficially, illegally and unsuccessfully. Nelle and Yorke got themselves out of this, but Don wasn’t so lucky
DON BERGMAN - I’ve never really been into ships, in fact I don’t really like to do that kind of stuff. However come on man, who calls their “partner” teasing names like Ducky and Dobbs? I’m sorry but to me Charlie and Don were once real partners. Yes yaoi. Okay hear me out, what if they were together in their ranger days and something happened that caused them to break up, hence why he’s an ex-ranger now and now practically looking through scraps for treasure as a treasure hunter? Anyways uh Don grew up in a highly dense and populated area that was none other than Koppai’s very own capital, the exact opposite of what Charlie had to go through. He was encouraged to go into the Koppai’s military and become a ranger with the goal of becoming a major, a role which Charlie happened to take up after the events of Pikmin 3 lmao the feud goes deeper. Don met Yorke there when he was working as an AI researcher and developer for the government. After the falling out, Don moved (or fled depending on who you ask) to Hocotate after becoming increasingly invested and aligned with its values and culture, still contacting Yorke for the bi-weekly treasure hunts. What if that’s why Charlie has a disdain for Hocotate, finding them treasure-grubby? Cause his ex-partner was engulfed into that kind of culture
POM - A Karutian field mechanic and sparklium expert and transporter, skilled in planetary transportation machinery yet was only ever able to be a sparklium transporter cause Karut really isn’t anything other than a planet for resource mining. Pom was always fond of the trades and people in general, much like Collin, and actively sought to keep her peers and clients out of danger. That’s probably what drove her to join the Rescue Corps; to prevent any more accidents in her workplace and because of her knowledge of sparklium and her shear physical strength. That, and Shepherd, who she has a crush on. I’m not really sure what to put for her lmao
SHEPHERD - The 99th descendant of the first Shepherd who fled Earth (PNF-404), built the megastructure, colonized Giya and unified peoples who fled the blue planet into one big official government…that’s currently fragmenting and collapsing in the current timeline of the games. Shepherd is desperately trying to hold on to this unity across stars with the Rescue Corps. The only reason she even is the leader of so is her absolute goal to avoid total collapse and wars cause right now things are not looking good, and because of basic family and generational duties. Let’s face it, Shepherd can be brave and tough but she can be so scared, she would probably love to rather be a full time dog trainer. In fact she was rescued by one after getting lost outside the megastructure and not being found or helped by anyone except a space dog. It’s this incident that reminds her of what happens when something bad occurs and how quickly people forget or just straight up don’t care about others, which is what she fears will happen if nobody keeps peace in the galaxies, hence her obligation to uphold the Rescue Corps
COLLIN - He’s always been a enthusiastic guy, one who carried it into caring for people like his Grandfather and peers as well as tele-communications. He loves communications with others so much that he had Russ implant a telecommunications device or radar of some sorts onto the top of his head. To me that is what his weird shaped hairdo is. It’s not hair, it’s technology. He doesn’t need a headset or microphone, no he just uses his radar thing. He even has installed a translation software onto it so he understands and interprets different languages of the galaxies for the Corps. His eyes also are implanted with a special chip that overlays instructions and highlights damaged parts for him, hence the unnatural green eyes and it only enhances his ability to fix and maintain parts of a spaceship. Wholly invested in the Corps due to being college friends with Shepherd and his general emphatic attitude towards people, developed partly from growing up in a tight knit middle class sector of Giya’s enclosed megastructure, Collin won’t leave the Corps anytime soon
RUSS - According to canon, Russ comes from a rich megacorporate family in Giya (maybe some sort of biotech or mechanical engineering one?). All the things he builds and invents is funded by his family, especially his mother. Some day he will take over the corporation, but the thought bothers him as he’s grown comfortable working with the small Rescue Corps. Bruv couldn’t care less about his hair, thinking it’s a waste of time to maintain, so he just genetically removed it from himself. Also he may have some hidden arsonist tendencies judging by his love for bomb rocks. Sometimes he’ll lock himself in his quarters for hours, researching and building wild inventions that’ll help the Rescue Corps. Or so he says. Yes he’ll do that, but mostly he’ll be in there making things for himself. The best part? No one will bother him with paperwork and questions. That’s exactly why he joined the Rescue Corps; for his own enjoyment and to get away as far away as possible from the thought of inheriting a mega corporation that may not leave any time for making his own inventions
YONNY - Childhood friends with Dingo, frequently going on outdoor expeditions with him and treating his wounds, even though Dingo would always say he’s fine (no buddy breaking your ankles and getting an almost fatal disease isn’t fine). Loves antique things from the eras when space colonization was just kicking off, (so hundreds if not thousands of years ago?) like books, glasses, old medical equipment, to him it is all interesting. He likes his historical things…maybe a bit too much as he adopts some old ideals into his practices. If he wasn’t so fascinated with biology and Ohri’s environment didn’t encourage him, he probably would’ve been a historian or curator. Not a lot of history on Ohri, it’s been the same for centuries, even its traditions and hierarchy, only with slight changes throughout time. After observing a large outbreak of a deadly disease in Ohri’s towers and villages that almost killed Dingo, Yonny has dedicated his live to curing all diseases. On his pursuit of so, he has joined the Rescue Corps with his friend to better understand the nature of the universe’s sickness. In turn, he gained a kind of sickness himself of being obsessed with finding a cure, at the detriment of his co-workers, peers and Dingo. Madness has consumed the guy. Bro definitely has a French accent
DINGO - One tough guy, except when it’s just Yonny and him around, then he lets loose his real feelings like maniacally sobbing about Shepherd not being interested in him. I once saw a piece of art of Dingo sobbing into Yonny’s arms and Yonny just wondering why he’s always attracted to lesbians…that’s canon to me I don’t care lmao. Caught an almost fatal disease and almost died from it, he’s fine now (no he isn’t he just tries really hard to keep it together he even covers up his scars n’ stuff to hide that he’s been hurt, both mentally and physically). Will not let anyone get hurt, even the ones he doesn’t really like, aka Bernard, a sentiment coming from watching Yonny get hurt by his own recklessness back on Ohri. I like to imagine he has an Australian accent (ya know, a Dingo, an aussie dog?)
BERNARD - The S.S. Shepherd is his. He “bought” it from a Hocotate cargo transportation manufacturer and with the help of Collin and Russ repurposed the interior of a large cargo truck into being more fit for holding rescued individuals. How did he buy such a large thing with his own wallet? He didn’t, he stole it. In fact most things he has is either stolen or gambled for or was gifted. The glasses, the permanent purple dye for his hair, his prized aviator jacket (little thing I’d think he wears a lot), all received via illegitimate ways or donated to him by thankful rescued people. Flying around the galaxy doesn’t exactly pay well. But he is exceptionally great at it, living his whole life from spaceship to spaceship, never quite having a “home”. That’s why his dream is to have a luxury flight, to him spaceships are considered his home. He used to live with Santi, however some sort of falling out happened and uh ya now Santi hates him, Bernard joined the Rescue Corps to mostly help others in the same situation as himself but to also escape his troubled past
Sorry if some captains got more then others, I’m still trying to figure out stuff. If any of ya’ll have your own headcanons I’d love to hear about them!! Also heya dudes who want some art I’m currently working on a buttload of drawings. Taking a while but I’ll get them all out eventually…might be a few weeks, months, however long my motivation and artblock is active and work isn’t being a bitch to me (fun reminder; use your free time as a kid in school to do what you want before graduating or working) It’s nothing I’ll abandon it just takes me while to feel motivated to do them. Some of these headcanons have been in my head for nearly a decade god damn it’s nice getting it out there!
