Hi friends,

I have a favor to ask. If we are mutuals, please either tag your posts about Israel and Palestine or let me know you are posting so I can mute for a while.

I am someone who has been in support of Palestine as long as I have been aware of the conflict. I have supported Palestine and a peaceful consenting transition of statehood and lands since I married an Israeli person, since I converted to Judaism, since I became a social worker. I have loudly and consistently condemned Zionism and the far right Israeli government. I have donated to Bet Selem and supported friends and family who work for Palestinian liberation.

And I am horrified. The actions of Hamas are explicitly genocidal to Jews of the world, and also to the people of Gaza. I know people, including children, who were murdered over the last two days. Including Arab Muslims, Bedouin and Thai people who were trying to live their lives in safety as well. I have nothing to celebrate, only to mourn.

This is horrific. This is violence devoid of any humanity. I have seen so many people who proclaim to be Pro-Palestinians who have no concept about what this means for every Palestinian around the world, and all of our futures. They have no concept of how any possibilities of better lives are gone now on the geopolitical stage.

So please, if you have any respect for me or some shared fondness, please tag your posts. These are real life issues, as they have always been. Please respect the lives who are lost or changed.

So, uh, now that someone fired a gun outside of a Jewish synagogue and preschool (that was in session) here in the U.S., is now the time we can talk about rising antisemitism on the left in the U.S.?

Because here’s the thing: American Jews have been trying to raise the issue. Over and over and over. And repeatedly we’ve been told we are paranoid, that “real” leftists/progressives aren’t antisemitic, that our pointing out truly troubling language being used by those that identify as anti-Zionist or pro-Palestinian isnt a real issue but is us being secret Zionists and whining to distract from Israel’s wrongdoings…

Jews have been written off, ignored, silenced, and even threatened for bringing up the rising tide of leftist antisemitism and antisemitism in some pro-Palestinian activism. We’ve been told that it isn’t the time, that diasporic Jews’ concerns and fears can’t be addressed right now because of what is happening elsewhere, if, of course, they are even based on reality at all.

Now that shots have been fired outside an in-session Jewish preschool, rooms full of toddlers - not by a neo-Nazi, not by a white supremacist, not by a MAGA idiot, but by someone who shouted “free Palestine” - now can we talk about it?

I can speak only for myself, but I am not asking you not to care about the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, I am not asking you to support the Israeli government. What I am asking you to do is include us in your activism, to listen to us when we tell you that some of the rhetoric being used on the left is dangerous to us, to believe us when we say that there is actual antisemitism on the left.

Because if now is not the time, I suspect that the only time will be when it is too late.

it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.

Lights of Remembrance

Where the Warsaw Ghetto once stood, Hanukkah candles light the night.

The house at 14 Waliców Street is one of the larger Warsaw Ghetto structures to have remained standing in spite of all the destruction.

The death toll among the Jewish inhabitants of the Ghetto was estimated to be over 300,000 Jews killed.

We remember their light.
