the worst thing you can do is let this world steal your whimsy. protect your whimsy at all cost. don’t let these joyless doofuses steal your magic

Quote of the day
I’m seeing a lot of people saying this post changed their brain chemistry, and as a neuroscientist I wanted to say yes!!! Yes it does!
Wanting something requires dopamine signaling, but liking something doesn’t.
If you have a mental illness/disorder that affects dopamine, you might feel that you don’t want to do the things that you like. You do still like them. You will appreciate having done them.
Let your likes guide you.
(If you want to read more, here’s one experimental paper about it. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5171207/ This theory called the incentive-sensitization theory was originally created to explain behaviors in addiction but can be applied elsewhere as well)
Rewards are both ‘liked’ and ‘wanted’, and those two words seem almost interchangeable. However, the brain circuitry that mediates the psych

me, after indulging in a new obsession so completely i let it consume my every waking moment:
The last time I saw Earth.
anyways (I say this as someone who is deeply critical of the united states government, military, unchecked capitalism, police, etc) I am SICK of people treating america as if it has no cultural value or positives so….. I love u 85 million acres (bigger than italy) of national parks. I love u harlem renaissance. I love u groundhogs day. I love u sweet tea and fried chicken and jambalaya. I love u apple cider donuts and maizes on crisp autumn days. I love u 95k miles of coastlines and new england fisherman and hand knitted sweaters. I love u halloween where millions of people dress up and give candy to strangers and carve jack o’lanterns. I love u small talk and small towns and potlucks and bringing over casseroles to your struggling neighbors. I love u cowboys and ranch hands and arizonian cactus. I love u appalachian trail and dirtbikes and divebars. I love u sparklers and fireflies. I love u mark twain and toni morrison and emily dickinson and henry david thoreau. I love u rock n roll i love u bluegrass and hippies i love u jimi hendrix and nirvana and CCR and janis joplin. I love u victorian houses and jonny appleseed and john henry and mothman and bigfoot. ok I know everyone’s considered Ryland grace wearing an “I put the ace in space” t shirt but. have we considered the infinitely funnier option of putting this shirt on eva stratt
I had to draw this
I thought of just stopping this episode with the shovel talk but then i thought why not some good old angst? (Part of my Second Backup AU PREV / NEXT)
The porky pig bit has to be one of my favorite mbmbam moments. Griffin's reluctance at his own joke. The brother's silent horror. The animation captures this trainwreck/homerun of a joke so well
I’m not sure how many people realize that there’s a way in which hurt/comfort is actually very kinky, because at its core you’ve got this emotional power exchange fantasy where one character is vulnerable and helpless and the other takes care of them. In the case of stories involving grievous injuries, where someone is bedridden for a long time, you often end up with two characters in a 24/7 total power exchange relationship without a safeword. It just doesn’t involve as many whips and dog collars.

#i think people get too caught up in the idea of kink as eroticizing the taboo (not that that's a bad thing at all lol) #and forget that coming at it from another angle kink is about vulnerability and trust #the fantasy of being at your most vulnerable and someone not hurting you (or hurting you and it still being okay) #vs the fantasy of someone letting you see them at their most vulnerable and trusting you not to hurt them (or hurting them and it's okay) #i think if people understood that more they'd understand that like having some interest in some kind of power exchange is like #super duper common #also as an ace person i don't really find like. the physical reality of sex very appealing #like it's whatever it exists it's fine it sounds messy #but like…. the vulnerability…. oogh #also i think this is the underlying motivation behind omegaverse too but nobody wants to admit that #it's literally 'what if i literally could not control the most desperate and vulnerable parts of myself and you stayed anyways 🥺' #that's kink baybee! #anyways. tag essay brought to you by my hyperfixation on the psychological aspects of kink
I've been too busy to Post lately. I've got like twelve half-sentence drafts and I can feel my posting organ starting to wither. It's real rough.
