Fresco of Holy Archangel Michael from Dečani monastery, Serbia.
“In the cross, like light in the sun, is concentrated the Love of God the Almighty for the world and men: in the cross is the whole power of Love. If God, the Father, has given His Son for us, how would He not, with Him, give everything to us… Thus the cross, which we use during prayer, is a token of God’s great mercy to us and an answer to our prayers. The cross is also a weapon for the banishment of spiritual enemies and worldly passions.”
— St. John of Kronstadt
The Cross is the guardian of all the world, the Cross is the beauty of the Church, the Cross is the might of kings, the Cross is the support of the faithful, the Cross is the glory of the angels, and a scourge to demons.

For more than 30 years now I have called myself Orthodox, and still have not understood why God has allowed illnesses, poverty, and loneliness to someone; and someone lives comfortably.
This question tormented me so much that the thoughts of unbelief came up. Only recently I realized that suffering was allowed to the whole human race, and if you are healthy and rich, you are called to help those who are unhappy. If you do not do this - you do not fulfill your purpose. It is not known what is easier: to hurt or care for the sick, to work hard to multiply wealth and share with the poor or ask for help without doing anything. Everybody is sent a cross according to his strength, but mortal life is always a cross bearing!
There is no injustice in the fact that one suffers and the other is called to share his suffering and help him. If you think that earthly life is given for pleasure, then, of course, it seems unfair that some are healthy and rich, while others are sick and need everything.
Bishop of Orekhovo-Zuevsky Panteleimon (Shatov)
Just read the life of St. Sergius of Radonezh for the first time in a few years. I read the version in St. Herman Press' The Northern Thebaïd.
What a magnificent saint. He quite plainly acquired all the virtues on the royal path and pleased God with his ascetic endeavors. His body was found perfectly preserved and his garments intact despite being in a pool of water.
If you didn't know, he founded many monasteries, not just the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra near Moscow. His disciples also founded monasteries and it seems that through them the angelic life was spread throughout the foundation of Russia.
May we all acquire the zeal and labors of the tireless servant of God.
St. Sergius, pray to God for us!
The Holy Spirit guides the Orthodox Church. If you do not believe that, or do not act like it, what's the point of being/becoming Orthodox? Why would you join a Church if you didn't think it had the truth?
You can swing a censer and wear beautiful vestments anywhere.
