things I definitely do with letters that are not romantical whatsoever:

draft the letter on a separate piece of paper first, with notes on what I should say

then write the actual letter on really really nice paper

that I stole

twice

then make sure it gets to the addressee even though bribes are involved

grab the envelope and/or letter itself back possessively when other people try to grab them and look at them

insert myself into an entirely separate epistolary pining episode between my surrogate dad and his onetime girlfriend

where my surrogate dad is not replying to the letters from the onetime girlfriend

which is not related to anything happening to me, at all, ever

also cut myself off from actually saying that I was hoping it was a letter from the person I’d sent a letter to

because it’s normal to not want to talk about receiving post, in general

that’s a thing people do

manage to be cool enough about the letter writing that my friends aren’t suddenly taken with the idea that maybe they are love letters

like two different friends

in two different countries

angst over the idea of letting someone else cry over the letter because they have a crush on the writer

that’s normal, really

it would just ruin the letter

and then they would cry over it some more and that’s just a nuisance

this is especially true when the correspondence is only about gold

also definitely include spelling errors to initiate return correspondence

say, unprompted, that the letters are not romantical at all

weren’t they about the discovery of gold in avonlea? yes.

this is definitely not about when my not-pen pal is coming back to avonlea or not

hide the letter in a secret writing cottage in the forest inside a book inside a trunk so it’ll be safe

from the person who has a crush on my not-pen pal
