Was thinking about why I like redmiru/jungrok so much and came to the conclusion that it's what feels more real to me. Then it turned into a deep dive on why I like tcf so much.
P. S. Forgive me for inconsistencies I've only read up til the beginning of Aipotu when they meet the baby snake.
Not to criticize or put down shipping choices – I've quite a lot of Alcale, Choicale, and other pairs myself – but I have this obsession with having the characters feel "real" in a as close to canon as possible way. And tcf is just so family-oriented that I gravitate towards found family fics like a moth. Shipfics are fun too, but they don't hit the same.
Everyone around Cale loves him so much, it's beautiful and it doesn't have to be romantic, I love single dad Cale, and most of all I love how his family adores him unconditionally. That's like sacred to me.
Alberu himself has made statements that hint at him being aro/ace and has said he doesn't want to be in a relationship or get married, and he loves his little brother and his nephews and the rest of his extended family, and he should have that, he can have it even without your cliche romantic development. (Not to say he can't in the future, but we all know that's not where the novel is going. I think at least, but you never know with Yu Reo Han)
As for Choi Han... I just can't with him being CJS's uncle, and I know that he's been stunted and stuck at 17 mentally too, but he owns being older. He's the one who brings it up. He's called Cale a child. And it would be even more weird since he has CJS's memories. I'm sorry guys, but that's a deal breaker for me. + What I said for Al applies here too. Despite his past, CH too can have a family. And he doesn't need romantic love to have that.
Lee Soo Hyuk too. While KRS definitely had a little crush on him, he is the older brother. He is to KRS what KRS is to CH. He's one of the people who understands Cale the most, and it's adorable that Cale still looks to him before making certain decisions, like him declaring his name to the emperor in Xiaolen. And yeah, this is pretty self-explanatory, I think. It's awesome that they could find each other again.
Technically, all of this goes for Choi Jung Soo as well. He has his own path to follow, and that's okay, as CH said. Except it feels... different. CJS is said to be similar to CH, he's stoic and awkward, but also an adorable golden retriever with those he's comfortable with. (At least, that's my take on his character. Feel free to disagree.) He's Cale's best friend, an equal, a person so different from him yet someone he connected with in a matter of hours. Someone Cale feels comfortable doing nonsense with.
Not that Cale doesn't do nonsensical things by himself, but someone on the same wavelength, who encourages him instead of thinking his ideas are "crazy", someone who matches his freak, someone who shares so much history with him that it's sickening! Just imagine them going on and on about some book they've been reading with matching grins on their faces, they would so write fanfics together lol
They bring out sides of each other that other people might've never even seen. That's such a fun thing to explore. It's not canon, and honestly I don't want nor expect any ship to be canon, but it feels like something that could be, like something easy, bubbly and light. They're so puppy love coded and so childish with each other I can't believe I haven't exploded yet.
As for canon, the main points of the novel are found family, strong bonds and relying on each other. CJS can't do it alone. And neither can LSH. No one can, but I mention them specifically because we know they've been hiding things, just that Sui Khan does it more openly. There's so much we don't know about the two of them, and I would love to see the Soos rediscovering each other throughout part 2. It would be a heart-warming message, very much in line with what we saw in part 1. Just imagine, part 1 being about healing and finding a new family despite your past trauma, and part 2 saying that it doesn't necessarily have to be a new family, you can reconnect with your loved ones despite your previous grievances. + Part 1 showing us Cale and his family develop this deep love for each other, showing us his family faced with worrying for his tendencies, but never crossing that boundary and part 2 showing him accepting it, and accepting himself, and allowing himself to be vulnerable and open in ways he never would've during part 1. This would be a great path to take part two towards, especially considering their currently lackluster reunion. Don't know how this could ever happen with the 390+ new characters but yeah.
Alberu has such bad perspective bias. He looks at all the people Cale has gathered as his friends and notes that all of them are peculiar people but of course, he doesn't fall into the same category. He's an exemption.
But then you get other people's perspectives on him and they're all talking about how weird he is. The Chief Priest of the demonic god said he was similar to the White Star.
Hate to break it to him but he's one of the worst of the lot. You can't continue to say you and Cale are similar and not be in the top three weirdos.
So I learned that the more evolved the species, the longer their young take to mature. That's why human children take so long to grow while cats and dogs grow up fast. And my first thought on that was... May Raon stay 1.2 meters long for the next like 50-some years, so that Cale can still carry him around everywhere he goes for a little while longer.
Aww, look at Raon on his daddy’s head.
I forgot to put this up, oops
Yo Osamu, thanks for the template
( @sleep-never-heard-of-her Sweetheart what do you think😌)
Cale changing outfits every chapter is so funny when Alberu changes his clothes like… once per season. (≧▽≦)
KRS refusing to call CJS & LSH hyung because that would show he cares about them, and everyone he's ever cared for has disappeared/died...

sctir, orv, and tcf are all very similar however in both sctir and orv the mc experiences mpreg and also tries to harm his alt self, these are both traits the the mc of tcf lacks. This suggests a link between self agression and male pregnancy, in this essay i will-

Golden retriever coded character but golden retrievers are hunting dogs. They are just as happy when they are cuddling with you as when they have a bloody bird clutched in their mouth. Just characters who will present you with your enemies bodies with a bloody smile on their face and then ask for headpats. (I am looking at you Choi Jung Soo)
helen “trans people are perpetuating gender steriotypes” joyce is now upset that the scientific american is writing about how women were hunters too back in the day, not just mothers and caretakers. feminist win!
I think I found the article!
The influential idea that in the past men were hunters and women were not isn’t supported by the available evidence
Read it if you have the time, it's very interesting.
Reading the article I see why TERFs are mad about it; it explicitly makes the distinction between gender as a social entity and sex as a biological category, and defines biological sex having multiple factors, both of which are anathema to TERF philosophy.
It also includes these fascinating paragraphs about the role of estrogen in different types of physical activity, directly debunking the widespread notion that estrogen is the weak human's hormone and only does weak human things:
Given the fitness world's persistent touting of the hormone testosterone for athletic success, you'd be forgiven for not knowing that estrogen, which females typically produce more of than males, plays an incredibly important role in athletic performance… The estrogen receptor—the protein that estrogen binds to in order to do its work—is deeply ancient. Joseph Thornton of the University of Chicago and his colleagues have estimated that it is around 1.2 billion to 600 million years old—roughly twice as old as the testosterone receptor. In addition to helping regulate the reproductive system, estrogen influences fine-motor control and memory, enhances the growth and development of neurons, and helps to prevent hardening of the arteries. Important for the purposes of this discussion, estrogen also improves fat metabolism. During exercise, estrogen seems to encourage the body to use stored fat for energy before stored carbohydrates. Fat contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates do, so it burns more slowly, which can delay fatigue during endurance activity. Not only does estrogen encourage fat burning, but it also promotes greater fat storage within muscles… which makes that fat's energy more readily available. Adiponectin, another hormone that is typically present in higher amounts in females than in males, further enhances fat metabolism while sparing carbohydrates for future use, and it protects muscle from breakdown. Anne Friedlander of Stanford University and her colleagues found that females use as much as 70 percent more fat for energy during exercise than males. Estrogen's ability to increase fat metabolism and regulate the body's response to the hormone insulin can help prevent muscle breakdown during intense exercise. Furthermore, estrogen appears to have a stabilizing effect on cell membranes that might otherwise rupture from acute stress brought on by heat and exercise. Ruptured cells release enzymes called creatine kinases, which can damage tissues… Linda Lamont of the University of Rhode Island and her colleagues, as well as Michael Riddell of York University in Canada and his colleagues, found that females experienced less muscle breakdown than males after the same bouts of exercise. Tellingly, in a separate study, Mazen J. Hamadeh of York University and his colleagues found that males supplemented with estrogen suffered less muscle breakdown during cycling than those who didn't receive estrogen supplements.
The article also talks about sexual dimorphism in different species, concluding that "Modern humans have low sexual dimorphism compared with the other great apes," and that overemphasis on averages obscures the wide dispersal of individual traits, which is what I keep saying.
Anthropologists also look at damage on our ancestors' skeletons for clues to their behavior. Neandertals are the best-studied extinct members of the human family because we have a rich fossil record of their remains. Neandertal females and males do not differ in their trauma patterns, nor do they exhibit sex differences in pathology from repetitive actions. Their skeletons show the same patterns of wear and tear. This finding suggests that they were doing the same things, from ambush-hunting large game animals to processing hides for leather. Yes, Neandertal women were spearing woolly rhinoceroses, and Neandertal men were making clothing.
I also thought this part was cool :)
I find it funny how many of us TCF fans seem to think Choi Han isn't into reading and that he's a brute without brains (or something similar) when it's canonically mentioned in the novel that Choi Han likes books, so one of the first things he did after meeting the Harris villagers for the first time was to learn how to read. Not to mention, it was stated many times that he's pretty clever and quick on the uptake.
Lcf modern AU where the Soos work together in an ice cream shop, watching OgCale (a regular there) everytime he comes like his life was their daily soup opera.
Thinking about TCF from Billos' pov is so funny. One regular ass day, the young master from the territory where his tea shop is located suddenly starts speaking cryptically to him, asking for random (expensive) shit and throwing money his way for him to do easy stuff for him . Then said young master becomes a hero and suddenly seems to be in everyone's business', knowing and being owned favors by every important person in the continent. Putting a golden plaque in his hands and telling him in detail what to buy and how, but leaving him with a generous margin to do his own business. His uncle, the underground master, is deeply respectful (and maybe a little scared) of him, their own crown prince gave him a direct line of contact with him and now he even has a dragon?!!
No wonder Billos is so fucking Happy and comes literally running every time Cale calls for him. Anyone would be just as happy if the strongest, best connected, probably richest man in the verse was using them as errand boys/girls
