Do you know that empty feeling?
You wanna leave this dunya behind, you’re done with it and couldn’t care less. But the moment you let it go, it wil start chasing you.
Every step you take away from it, it will take two steps closer to you. It will start with desires that get fed. But the moment you get immune for this because you place the dunya out of your heart into your hands, it will come in other forms. Forms of close-by people. Your family that invites you back to it, friends that help you in it and your loved ones that drag you back.
While on the other end, you’re trying to strive for the Satisfaction of Allaah. You’re trying to live by His Will and act upon His Commands, you’re striving for the best place which will make you forget everything you had to endure in this dunya, the place that will go on forever with no end, al Jannaah. But everytime you get a hold on your imaan, it will slip away like you’re holding on to water.
Feeling in between. You’ve left this dunya behind, but are not yet at the next milestone of steadfast imaan. You feel like a stranger in this dunya, but aren’t ready for the next yet. You’re sitting in a train, waiting to depart for the journey to your akhirah. But while you wait, you keep thinking and don’t strive for taking off. And while you sit and think, people have left with their trains, while others have stepped out and walked back to dunya. You hear noises from things that happen in the dunya, but also from things that happen with people that left it. But you? You’re standing still, left this dunya but didn’t arrive at the journey to al akhirah.
قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَٰلًا
ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
Say, [O Muhammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work." [18:103-104]
The dunya is like a shadow, when you run to it you will never be able to catch it. But the moment you run away from it, it will chase you forever.
