“Happy Birthday Altair!” She presents a box.
*Completely freezes at mention of his birthday* Thank you, but what's the box for?" Did birthday customs change over the years?
Self-care is running away from home and working in a boozy dance club halfway across the country.

awokenxeagle:
“It hurts Cec.” The nickname rolled off his tongue without thought, no reason behind it other than the fact that it just felt right. Times like these were where the child of his present was fought his mental maturity. The child in Altaïr wanted his mothers’ comfort and care while the adult knew this was a necessary and inevitable event in every life.
Other than his first life the memories came back by in random orders. This time he was standing at the top of the large structure known as Big Ben: gazing down at the city below him he’d been dumped in ‘to calm down’ as some faceless person had told Altaïr after he had gone against what they had tried to order him to do. Altaïr did not take orders from those centuries younger than him, those that interfered with his cycle of reincarnation.
He has met someone important there Altaïr was sure of that, the dark haired woman who had been with him when he died, who had tried to help him. Was the woman in front of him the same person? Something did feel familiar about her but everything was such a jumble of memories, like a movie on fast forward times 10 without stopping. Altaïr wanted it to stop. “Mama…I want my mama.”
She could have slid a hand into his hair and pressed a hand to his scalp. Took a look inside his young mind and see what exactly had him so troubled. But Cecily had taken a personal vow when Charlotte was born not to interfere with the minds of children. Charlie had been on the receiving end of her little mind walks and she knew that they weren’t always the most pleasant feeling.
Instead, she let fingers dust gently over his hair, sweeping some of the pain away with a frown. This had to be Al, her Al, she just knew it. “All right, love, you’re all right.” A small sigh as she cradled him into her arms, scooping little legs underneath her arms and carrying him over to the bench where a pair of women sat in conversation. A hand kept soothing the pain in his head as she approached with a weary look on her face.
“I– I don’t mean any harm…I was told one of you was his mother…” Fingers twitched in young Altaïr’s shirt, ready to protect herself if need by, and by proxy, the little one cradled against her. “My name is Cecily Frye, you can think of me a friend.”
A petite blond haired woman looked up from her conversation, concern shining in Amelia's eyes when they landed upon her young son. Altaïr had had headaches like this since he was around six. She had taken him to several doctors but none could find the root cause of them. Medication never helped and Amelia had seen her son get rid of them himself and go to great lengths to avoid taking any.
So when Cecily Frye(as she introduced herself) had brought him over she wasted no time with asking what was wrong. Rather Amelia quickly stood up and gathered Altaïr into her arms, giving Ms.Frye a greatful smile. "Thank you Ms.Frye. My son has had these headaches for years and it's a relief someone kind was around." With a worried smile Amelia gave a nod before hurrying off toward her car but not before inviting Cecily over for dinner in thanks, pressing her address into the other woman's hands.
A few days later had the petite blond rushing about the townhome, preparing for their guest. Amelia took repaying kindness with kindness and Ms.Frye looked like she could use a good meal. Altaïr even seemed strangely anticipating their guest-an unusual thing for him. He'd always been unsociable, preferring to stay on the outside of his classmates' social circles.
The moment the doorbell opened Amelia told her son to open the door for their guest and show them toward the living room. Quickly following his mother's instructions Altaïr opened up the door. "Welcome Sister." The traditional greeting for Assassins as his memory was still foggy regarding Cecily but he knew she was important to him, even a close friend but had no solid memories of their time together.

“I dare you.”
“Bite me.”
“You think you can just run that pretty mouth of yours whenever you want?!”
“Wanna bet?”
“If you complain that it’s hot one more time, I’m going to give you a reason to sweat.”
“Prove it.”

The assassin had already started the engine, and put the car into gear when he spoke. Checking her mirrors she moved into the queue of traffic before she spoke again.
It was clear she was searching in the rear view mirror for any signs that suspicion had been drawn towards them. Once satisfied, she returned her attention the road ahead.
“I never knew you had been to France, let alone during the crusades.
It’s by chance I didn’t see you. “
She joked lightly letting herself relax a little. All the while keeping a sharp eye out.
“I like the other guy, Amir, but you got him in quite a tight space Brother.”
The drove along, Shadow diverting her attention from Altair/Amir to driving to looking out for Templars. All she had to do was get to her friends airfield, they could get a flight from there. Yes an airfield that held transatlantic airliners, very unusual. But upon special request and encouragement and cash in hand, anything is possible.
“As you can see the world has changed a lot, a lot more complicated.
The things designed to make things easier are more complex then a rocket to mars….but you won’t know about that either.
Well, we have quite a drive, where shall we begin?”
“The boy’s fate did not start out intentional I assure you.” At least on a conscious level. In the beginning Altaïr himself wasn’t aware about what was going on.
It was like being submerged in that water he hated so much. Eventually he became aware of what was happening, quickly coming to the conclusion that the Templars would find Amir and the secrets he held were to important to let them have making it worth one person’s life. That didn’t mean he didn’t regret it on a certain level; Altaïr was taking away someone’s identity and free will, erasing them from existence. The needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few unfortunately.
Pushing those thoughts away the Assassin instead focused on the strange object he currently resided in. More curious than suspicious he examined it as bear he could; fiddling with buttons and small levers much like a child would with a new toy.
“The only Mars I know is the Roman god of war. The term rocket is unfamiliar to me. I am guessing it is a type of ship? ” Altaïr was half paying attention more interested in the strange devices around him.
“I do not blame you, brother, just another reason for me to hate pieces of Eden, Juno and all the first civilisation. “
Her grip tightened on the steering wheel. His final statement made her close her eyes briefly as they waited at a pair of traffic lights. Of course he wouldn’t know. How could he. They were all after his time.
But at the same time her attention was being drawn away by the fact he was pressing every button in the car. Turning on and off the climate control, hazard lights.
She shook her head slightly.
“You’ve much to learn, maybe talk to Amir. “
The mentor chuckled lightly when he turned on the radio. Quickly distracted while they had to cross a junction. But she was sure he would love this device. Maybe he had seen one before but either way. His entuasism was humerous. Anybody else they would probably been thrown out by now. But this, this was far too entertaining.
Altaïr scoffed at the idea of talking the the boy not pausing in his exploration of the vehicle. “For that to happen we’d both have to be conscious at the same time and he’d have to learn to accept me. As of now the boy would sooner beat me than converse.” Not that he could blame the boy but unfortunately the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few.
Everything in this ‘car’ was so inventive,so far beyond what he had ever imagined. Buttons that controlled the interiors weather, ones that pulled the glass up and down, moved the seats, not to mention the speed they were going. So far the sound box was Altaïr’s favorite device even if he had been startled when it first turned on.
Not pausing Altaïr did admit to needing to learn about the era he was now in. So much had happened and if he wanted to blend he needed to seem normal.
“I mean, I wouldn’t blame him, if you were inside my head I’d want to beat you too. “
They had reached open road by now, and pair sailed along the highway with ease. The assassin could hardly believe that it seemed they were going unnoticed. But she was not so naive to let herself believe it was over. Call her paranoid if you wish but it’s better to be safe then sorry.
“You know after all these years one gets rather sick of all this.
Adapting and changing to the times and new technologies as well as social standards and societies acceptance.
The last twenties years were the hardest, to keep up to date with the advances in technology.
It almost day by day that something more complex and innovative is discovered.
I envy you Altair, you got to cut out all the stuff in between, the Wars, the famines, the revolutions.
The world has changed in many many ways, some of which I assume you may already know. “
Altaïr made a non-commital hum, neither agreeing or disagreeing with her. Shadow's pain was something he'd never be able to understand; it was unique to her situation. He'd never been good with dealing with someone else's emotions, never really able to empathise with them.
"The changes I can already see are vast. Human kind's inventiveness has no limits." Sharp eyes marked the landscape as they sped down the highway, at least the desert remained mostly the same with its vast spread of said and hidden dangers.
A sharp buzz came from his pocket prompting him to pull out a small rectangular device with a bright surface. A cell phone a distant part of his mind-most likely due to Amir's influence - provided. The words on the surface were a jumble of English letters it tool Altaïr a few moments to make out.

Stomach Kiss:Altaïr examined the body of his old friend as she changed into more comfortable clothes. There were more scars than there had been last time bit that was to be expected with their line of work. The scar that caught his attention was a thin one that ran across her left rib, like she had been clipped by a sharp object while running. He had died surrounded by jagged steel beams and if he remembered right-loss of blood had dulled his senses- she has been cut.Small feet pattered over toward Cecily a determined expression on the young boy's face. Janet and Amelia had always performed the magic ' healing kiss' on each of Altaïr's scraps and enough of the childish memories remained that it seemed only right to give Cec the same treatment;even if the wound had already healed.Pressing a light kiss along the edge of the scar Altaïr looked up,smiling softly. "You did your best to save me Ces. Don't feel guilty that your magic wasn't able to keep death away."
