@axl-like-the-rose
in alcohol’s defense I’ve done some pretty dumb shit while completely sober too
TEXT ✉️: Warren & Axl
Warren: All of my friends have birthday this year, ain't that great??????
Axl: Uhh, you doing alright there, Warren?? Everyone has a birthday everyday of the year??? And everyone every year?? Unless you're dead.
❝Can’t say that it’s not an appealing image,❞ he chuckled, finding entertainment in Axl’s frustration. ❝As much as I enjoy video games or whatever, it’s not worth it. Just play all the tons of games you have in your room,❞ he answered, with a roll of his eyes. ❝Begging may work on your mother, but not on me. End of discussion.❞
Axl frowned at Seth’s response as the other looked amused at the thought of his pain. “You’re fucked up, y’know that?” he pointed out to him. He shook his head and whined when Seth continued to say no. “Fine then, don’t play the next part of the game. And you know what? I’ll get it and you won’t be allowed to play it,” he said petulantly, though deep down he knew that he’d still allow the other to play it, after a while of playing keep-away of course.
I’m sorry that I exist.
IT WASN’T MY CHOICE.
“’I do not look or sound like that’,” she mocked childishly, crossing her arms over her chest and shaking her head exaggeratedly. She stopped because it made her feel dizzy. “Axl,” she said gently, eyes softening, because she knew he only got this worked up and called her Lillian when he was genuinely stressed or upset. “I can’t make things better until you tell me what’s wrong. I know you have trouble expressing yourself, but it’s me. Okay? So just.. try to use your words,” she said, reaching for his hands and holding them, looking at him with concern.
“Real mature, Lilian,” Axl replied, glaring at her and sticking his tongue out at her as the girl shook her head like that before stopping. He huffed when she said his name like that, getting all gentle and nice again. “What?” he asked, avoiding how she got all soft on him once more. “I already said what’s been troubling me,” he replied, frowning lightly. “You’ve been lying to me. Well, hiding things from me.”
“None of the above . No but my cousin just took over the gym down the street. I had that like five minutes ago.” Jack complained to the person who had responded too him.
“Oh. I’m wrong...” Axl said with a frown, placing his hand on his chest. “This feeling, I am unfamiliar... I don’t like it,” he said and shook his head before laughing and smiling at Jack. “Wait, when you say take over a gym, you mean...” he trailed off, letting the other elaborate more on that. “I see. I mean, I like Pokemon myself, but then this is all about going outside and walking around, and I’m not sure if I’m all about that. Even if I am the dork that is all about Pokemon.”
Wait- peep show? What in the world are you talking about Axl? And why would you be worried about her around me?
Yeah, peep show. Oh, don’t start playing coy now. You sure as hell didn’t whilst practically, almost having sex with my sister out in the open. Because! She’s my sister, I’d be worried about her around any guy that has trouble keeping it in his pants.
And I still mourn the person I could’ve been; that gullible child that never grew quite right.
does anyone know where unrealized versions of yourself go once they’ve been killed? (✯)

Julia titled her head, her turn to listen to him, and as she expected, he barely mentioned Kat, nor he denied anything going on with the girl. She took a long breath, not wanting to look too vulnerable in front of him. “You just said that you can talk to me, but what are you doing here and now? You’re avoiding the whole Kat’s subject.” She scoffed, closing her eyes slowly to calm down. “You say you don’t know? I’m almost sure it’s wrong, you know why?” She crossed her arms and swallowed thickly. “Because if you asked me how I felt about Colin, I’d tell you. I can try to blame him, because it’s easier, and that’s basically what I do… but the truth is… I still care about him. I’m not lying to you. My reaction showed last night, why would I be jealous if I moved on? But the difference is, it’s over and I’m trying to find myself. I thought I could do that with you.” Julia stopped, he wasn’t trying to stop her nor he mentioned the fact he still wanted to date her. He just kept apologizing and agreeing. “Whatever you say, you’re the one who is not honest right now. Because you would have told me when I asked you about Kat. I’m a grown-up, I can understand that it’s complicated but a ‘I don’t know’?”She paused. “I won’t beg, I won’t be that girl. But, if you want to talk to me, it’s now, not tomorrow nor never.” She bit on her lower lip. “Look… Maybe we just need a break. I’ll be out of the city in around three weeks for two weeks or so… ballet training.” She reminded him. “Just figure your things out meanwhile.” Julia closed the distance between them and took his hand. “When I’ll be back we could talk and see if anything changed for both of us? If we missed each other?”
Axl flinched lightly at how she pointed out how he hadn’t really said anything, had still avoided the topic and anything that could have gotten emotional, or even the least bit confrontational. It wasn’t as if he didn’t know that it wasn’t true. He knew it all too well, but he hadn’t said anything and yet things between them were already going to shit, he felt like if he had spoken earlier then it might have just hurt even more. “You’re right, and I’m sorry,” he told her, shaking his head lightly and licking his lips, chewing at the lower one with the nerves and other confusing feelings that were flowing through him in that moment. “It’s just... I don’t know how to do that, which I know isn’t an excuse,” he told her and shook his head again. “But it’s hard, I’m sure that you of all people get that. It’s hard to open up like that and talk, because... What if it ends up not being worth it either way?” he asked, frowning as he dropped his gaze and more doubts floated around in his mind, imagining all the possible reactions. Most of them ending with pain on his part because why would someone else care about something that troubled him. Even though deep down he knew that Julia wouldn’t do that. He took a deep breath as he listened to her talk about Colin and how him not knowing how felt about Kat was bullshit, dropping his gaze to the ground and nodding lightly.
“I know... You’re right,” he replied softly, swallowing thickly. He chewed at his lip when she told him it was now, or never. “I care about you,” he started off softly. “I do, I know that we haven’t been dating, or whatever it is that we are doing for that long, but I do care,” he told her. “And I did, I do want to see where this could go, because if the time together has shown, we can be good together. And I want to see that. Where it could go...” he admitted to her softly. “But Kat...” he said, shaking his head and frowning lightly at how it felt as he forced words out of his mouth, despite the way it felt hard and wrong to be doing so. “Everything with Kat has always been complicated... Been like, too little, too late, or too much, too soon,” he said, laughing humorlessly at the irony of the statement. “I liked her for a really long time,” Axl told Julia. “She was my best friend for a long time, but... I liked her for a least a little over half of the span,” he admitted out loud. “But it was always like, she was with someone when I wanted her, then I was with someone when she wanted me,” he said, frowning and shaking his head still trying to force it all out and struggling for a few moments to put together his words and thoughts. “Like, we wanted each other when we couldn’t have each other.” He sighed and looked back up at her when Julia’s voice got soft again and she stepped in closer to him, curling his fingers around hers when her hand took his, giving it a gentle squeeze. He cleared his throat lightly and nodded his head lightly. “I don’t want to lose you,” he told her softly, looking up at her with tired eyes. “I know I will miss you, but you’re right about me needing to get my shit together.”

Kat sighed. She had to do it. It was just a simple message that she could delete and pretend it never happened. Actually, she wanted to forget that the entire prom had happened. If the Men in Black were real, she would have really liked one of their gizmos to wipe her own brain. She took in another deep breath and pulled her phone out of her pocket. As usual, when she had a big choice to make she was perched on the tree outside her window. So, she typed. “Hey Ax… can we talk?” It was simple. 5 words between now and infinity. 5 words between now and what happens next. 5 words between heartbreak and love. She closed her eyes and took another breath.
The pace of her heart hadn’t slowed down enough for the ping that her phone emitted. It was actually a reply from Julia, continuing their oh-so-wonderful discourse. She swiped it open and typed out something angry and rash because she was nervous and that’s when mistakes happen. “Please…” She said it out loud to herself. Another ping. Her chest fluttered when she saw the name on the screen. “I was about to say the same to you. Meet at the park by the school?” Her heart nearly dropped out of her chest. We need to talk, can we talk, we never talk every little problem was about talking. That was something the two of them hadn’t done recently. It was more of a yelling match and biting tongues.
“The worst thing that happens is you get hurt.” Kat was slipping back into her habit of talking to herself. If she imagined every possibility before they happened then she wouldn’t be caught off guard. “He says no and then your friendship is ruined and you move on… but how do you… how do I move on?” There were the very obvious, spiteful choices. Then, there was the truth. She would have to suck it up and take that leap. She stashed her phone in her coat pocket and hopped down from her resting place. The walk was silent and slow, every footstep echoing in her brain. Panic was quite the understatement. But just like that, she was there. And he was there and they were there together and now she had to do something.
“Hey!” She tried to smile and walk up to him like everything was normal because every would be normal. Right? Right. Deep breath. She couldn’t get a read on his face, which was unusual for her. Axl was generally open about what he was feeling but something deep down in her knew this had become such a tangled complicated web that maybe they couldn’t un-do it on their own. This was probably just the beginning of the string of her downhill life choices. Becoming a stripper, three kids with three different dads, and a very lonely motel room were next to follow. But she’d been zoning out for too long, it was going to look obvious that she wasn’t ok. “Sorry, I missed that. Care to repeat?” She smiled.
It was obvious, Axl knew it was obvious, he hadn’t pretended like it wasn’t. He was avoiding talks with everyone. He avoided having a talk with Kat, he avoided and ended up sabotaging his relationship with Julia. He just needed to stop avoiding and ignoring everything, just open his mouth and talk, but as much as it was a surprise to everyone, that never came easy to Axl. Not when talking meant revealing something of himself. He just couldn’t open himself up like that to anyone, didn’t feel like he could handle it if something ended up going sour. After what happened with Julia, though? After hearing what she had to say and knowing she was right. He knew that he had to stop avoiding everything and at least try to talk to the girls he had feelings for. So when he got the text from Kat, after only a split moment of hesitation he agreed.
He paced around his room for a while, trying to phrase together everything that he needed to say, but continued to draw blanks and stumble over his words, or thinking they came out completely wrong. He took deep breaths and tried to calm himself down. “It’s okay,” he said softly to himself as he looked at himself in the mirror for a pep talk. “It’s just Kat,” he continued to convince himself. “The worse that happens is you’ll get punched again,” he muttered and smoothened his clothes before leaving his room and his home to meet her at the park. Leaving the part that they might ruin their relationship forever unspoken. That was something he didn’t think he would let happen. He didn’t want that to ever happen between himself and anyone, let alone with Kat.
He leisurely made his way to the park, trying not to think about it as walking to his doom, because that was not positive thinking and not going to help him at all. He looked around the park, not noticing the other girl approach yet and just pushing his hands into his pockets as he waited. He took a deep breath and looked up when he heard her voice, giving her a small smile back. “Hey,” he replied, nodding his head lightly. “So, we should probably get to talking, huh?” he asked, chuckling lightly although he didn’t think there was anything funny about the situation in the moment. He raised his eyebrows slightly at her far away look then how she seemed to snap back. He cleared his throat and shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck lightly. “Oh, nothing. Just, um, tryna figure out where to start,” he said, licking his lips as a nervous habit.
