Thank you for the detailed response and sorry about the traumatic experiences you had with the show. For me, a person I knew who hurt me badly enough that I have panic attacks whenever I see them, really likes the show and associates herself with Kaneki, so I get really distressed whenever I see any mention of the show or this specific character. It makes me sad because I love anime and I would have watched it if it weren't for her. I guess I just need time to get over my triggers. :/

i’m so sorry that happened to you. i had a similar situation with it before all of this stuff and it took me a long time to get back into it but i did eventually. please don’t force yourself to get into it or anything though or force yourself to get over it. it’s okay if you can’t and there’s nothing wrong with it being a trigger. its okay if you can’t get over your triggers and forcing yourself to do so can be dangerous so please be careful and stay safe.

May I ask why you ask to blacklist Tokyo Ghoul stuff? I'm just curious, especially since I also get quite distressed upon seeing it, because I have awful memories associated with it (even thogh I've never actually watched the show). Is it very problematic?

hello! so the main reason i have touken and touka kirishima on my blacklist is bc people in my system have had very traumatic experiences with both of those things. we have an ayato fictive who in his canon and in this life has had to deal with toukas hurting him repeatedly. for him seeing touka is just a reminder of those bad times and he’d rather never see her again so to avoid that we just blacklist her. for touken its bc its.. just. well in canon its a really bad and unhealthy relationship honestly, the way it’s written and handled is just not good. we also have a kaneki fictive in system and she has some severe trauma related to that (and touka too) as well and seeing touken causes her to have bad panic attacks.

i wouldn’t say tokyo ghoul is like.. very problematic. but it definitely has its flaws. the anime and the original manga are fine (aside from the anime just being a poor adaptation there’s nothing really wrong with it) and i actually loved the original manga! but after certain events in tokyo ghoul:re (stuff kinda started to get bad after kanae died but they went to absolute shit after torso and mutsuki stuff) it’s uhh yeah it’s kind of problematic i’d say. ishida forces a romance out of nowhere on the readers (not even a healthy one) and just kind of shits on all of his trans characters (he killed kanae off and then turned mutsuki into some yandere who’s obsessed with haise and wants to kill him. and he also had kanae and mutsuki suddenly decide they weren’t trans anymore) and its just really bad.

i feel like a lot of the time people make it seem like cutting a toxic person out of your life will be an instant weight off your shoulders and you’ll feel free and better and it’s usually like…. not that happy of a situation like it’s not FUN cutting people off but it’s often necessary. especially if it’s someone you’ve been through a lot with you’ll probably feel guilty and bad and a little regretful even though it’s the best thing for you, it’s not as easy or as instantly satisfying as it seems.

This is really true. It isnt satisfying. You have a void in your life, and can feel empty. You can feel regret and want to take that person back and tell them you were wrong and feel like you made a terrible mistake sometimes, so no it isnt really an instant relief like some people think, especially if you were close with this person or people.
