PREVIEW:
It was a day she would reminisce everything - from the curve of her mother’s lips to the bright toffee eyes when her father’s smiled.
Some people had a specific day they used to honor the fallen.
She’d know it on the days when her older brother disappeared with flowers in his hands, waving at all of them – sometimes he’d go by himself, on others, he’d bring Ichika and her older sister. There were even times he would go with his former squad in the CCG to honor Shirazu Ginshi.
She’d also know it on days when the Kirishima siblings disappeared. Ayato would accompany Touka to visit a make-shift grave they have done to honor their parents and both of their eyes would be a bit sad. She had gone with Ayato once, one mundane weekday where she insisted to follow him. He didn’t agree at first, telling her that where he was going wasn’t her concern while his cheeks flushed.
And as they prayed, she remembered how his eyes looked sad and melancholic, yet there was a change in them that spoke volumes. He put an offering on top of the gravestone, murmuring prayers with warmth in his eyes that made Hinami smile. There was a certain peace present in his features, as if he finally found tranquility within the pain and hurt he used to feel at the thought of his father.
The days were different, but they were all the same.
It was the day one would remember the fallen, loved ones lost and those who have died. It was the day one would remember the time spent with them – be it by one’s self or loved ones. It was the time spent murmuring words of love, a time to tell stories about how life went on, a time to just remember.
It was a day she told her parents how much she loved them, and how much she valued them even after time has passed – the day she’d spend time, telling them stories of how she was, her experiences, her life.
Hinami Fueguchi maneuvered her way around, a light breeze touching her face as she sauntered through the edge of the city. She could hear faint murmurs and chants as people celebrated, as a smile erupted on her lips at the thought of how peaceful it was.
She remembered visiting this place for the first time, how Ayato reached out for her hand and helped her as she slowly walked towards the graveyard. There was a snow that was deep and untouched as she halted in front of two familiar markers made of marble, and her hands took away the snow that blocked the names. It was such a sight to behold as she realized what she had missed in all these years they were gone – her heart ached, silently wishing they were here instead of just looking at the lifeless headstones.
Years later, the tradition continued. But instead of a heavy heart filled with molten lead, she finally spent the time to remember them as they were – kind, doting, and loving parents. As the tombstones came into view, they protruded from a blanket of pale blue. Every now and then, dazzling lights would cast reflections on the snow, making the visit feel magical and warm. Hinami waded deeper and finally was welcomed by the two familiar markers, just behind a row of even gravestones.
She knelt in front and wiped the snow that rested on top of them, revealing intricate carvings engraved upon the stones. A wreath of white roses came into her view and a small smile erupted on her lips at the thought of the one who put them there.
“Hello Otousan, Okaasan,” she stammered, her throat parched. It was another year without them, she thought, as her heart hammered inside her chest. Even after all this time, she still wished she got to share her life with them. “It’s been a while.”
She paused, as if expecting a reply. The breeze was cooler now, and she could hear the bustles of the city nearby. With a sigh, she imagined them talking to her as she told them some stories from her heart. “Ichika had grown so much this year and often causes mischief to Oniichan and Yomo-san.” A chuckle escaped her lips as she sat down and leaned on the graves, not minding the cold. “Oneechan finds it funny and she is so much like her. You would have loved to spend time with her, Okaasan.”
She stared above as a flood of memories opened in the gates of her mind, noting the stars that were twinkling beautifully under the night sky. “I’ve been doing well and having fun with the children in my job. It’s so nice to see them learn and grow. I could imagine you doing the same, Okaasan.”
Hinami could still imagine her mother’s gentle expression, the way her lips thinned into a beautiful smile as her eyes shone. She could remember the softness in her voice, or how her father put a flower in her hair. She could still remember how her father’s eyes lit up at the sight of her mother, and his hearty laugh as he spoke to her. His glasses would be a little lopsided, which her mother always teased him on. “I miss you.”
She only had a few memories with them, but she always made sure to remember everything deep in the recesses of her heart.
Slowly, she closed her eyes as her jaw tightened. There were so many things she wanted to say, so many things she wanted to tell them. “I wish you were here.”
She had accepted long ago that they were gone – that the moment her mother made her run to protect her, she knew she would never see that smile again. But once in a while, the urge to see them, to touch them, to hold them resurfaced – and Hinami had no choice but to embrace those wishes.
“I’m very happy right now,” Hinami whispered. “I’ve been able to teach a lot of children and I now have a place to call my own. I even teach Ichika on my days off and spend time with my family whenever I could.”
She wished they were here, but also, she had already accepted their sacrifice – already understood the meaning of their words. She missed them dearly, but it was their sacrifice that brought her here.
As she opened her eyes, a hand finally held itself in front of her, asking her to take it. With a small smile, she stood up and let herself be enveloped by the warmth that pressed itself beside her. She watched as he let go to put another bouquet of white roses, his eyes solemn as he prayed.
Ayato gave her a small smirk as he took her hand, and she put her heard on the crook of his neck. The pair of them looked at the graves, savoring the presence of the people who owned them. He kissed Hinami’s cheek and looked at her, as if reassuring her that he would always be here.
And that’s when she realized that they were here, that she could feel them. That if ever she wanted to see their faces or hear their voices, all she had to do was look within her self and close her eyes. They live inside her, even after their deaths. “Let’s go home, Hinami.”
For it was their lives that enabled her to be here, and for her, it was their wish that she honored – live.
Just thought this fit them #168
Hinami: How are you feeling?
Ayato: Ive got a headach that comes and goes.
Kaneki: *Enters the room* Ayato!
Ayato: Fuck its back.
Let’s go home
“let’s go home.”
Let’s go home

What are Ayato and Hinami like as a couple in your au? Your au is so precious 🌸
aw thank u it makes me rly happy that ur interested! for anyone who is interested in my tattoo + flower shop ayahina au, here are my part one here r some quick things about their relationship after they reveal their feelings:
the kirishima, kaneki + fueguchi family become familiar with each other afterwards. they have dinner together many nights and ichika starts to call hinami ‘aunty’.
when they have those dinners together, hinami makes it her mission to sneak kisses to ayato. it always takes him by surprise and he never knows how to react. but two can play that game so it becomes a game to see who can give each other the most surprise kisses.
often while hinami is busy tattooing a customer, ayato brings in lunch for them to share together. he always likes watching the illustrations she makes and bringing her ideas to life. it’s something he comes to admire strongly about her, especially as he isn’t an artist so he thinks highly of hinami.
ayato teaches hinami how to plant all kinds of flowers, shows her how to take care of all her favourite plants. hinami sketches and paints all of ayato’s favourite plants into a book dedicated to him. she gives him this book one day when she notices he’s feeling upset. he’s so proud of her paintings and shows everyone in his family until everyone is like “yes, ayato, we have seen your girlfriend’s paintings and we know she’s beyond talented.”
hinami’s house starts being occupied with plants ayato gifts hinami. she’s ashamed to say she’s obsessed with taking care of them now. ayato brings her all kinds of unusual plants she’s never seen before, and she places them on the window sill or by her bedside.
ayato, while they were kissing, finds that hinami has a tattoo of a four leaf clover on her collarbones. it’s very pretty and he loves kissing at it.
they start leaving toothbrushes and clothes over at each other’s houses because they sleepover together frequently. at this point, hinami good friends with touka, both enjoying making fun of ayato and seeing him blush furiously red.
flower shop & tattoo artist ayahina au
the kirishimas own a flower shop. one day, a new tattoo shop opens up next to their’s
hikari decides to gift a small bouquet of flowers to the tattoo shop in celebration for them, suggesting ayato to come too since he’s always been interested in tattoos
ayato looks at the large book of tattoos in the store, of the flowers, designs and other illustrations. hinami appears, smiling as she greets them. she asks if he and hikari need anything
he almost drops the bouquet of flowers in his hand because he didn’t expect this sweet looking girl of his age to work at a tattoo shop. hikari notices him go silent, holding back a laugh and takes the flowers from his hand to give to hinami
just like ayato, hinami is surprised someone who looked as angry and emo ™ as ayato would work full-time in a flower shop. shes very grateful and introduces herself to them.
ayato and hinami end up caught in conversation because they find out they went to the same school yet they had never seen each other before. hikari decides to leave, reminding ayato that it’s his turn to fertilise the flowers
he goes red and hinami teases him about being so in denial of working in a flower shop. he tells her that it runs in their family to own a flower shop. he also tells her he has a sister, who works in the cafe down the street, with her husband and six-year old daughter
at the mention of his niece, he gets noticeably soft, which hinami thinks is cute since he tries hard to come off sternly but is actually a big softie
‘come by again, kirishima-kun’ hinami says before thanking him again for the flowers when he leaves
even though she told him he could see her again, he felt too embarrassed to the next day. he spends the day watering the plants thinking of her, sweeping the ground thinking of her, arranging bouquets thinking of her. usually he does these tasks angrily (but carefully at the same time) to hide the fact that he loves working as a florist, but this day he’s unusually quiet. hikari picks up on it, teases him and asks if it’s about ‘the sweet girl in the tattoo shop’.
ayato denies this, going bright red. and Of Course since this is a shoujo, hinami conveniently walks in at this time
he’s already so red and becomes even more flustered at the sight of Her,, hikari calls him hopeless and greets hinami, who brought them a painting of flowers she had done on canvas for them, as a thank you for the bouquet of flowers the other day.
she looks to ayato who quickly looks away while sweeping the ground. she asks if he would make a bouquet of flowers for her
‘do i look like the type of person who can arrange flowers together?’ he says but hikari raises his eyebrows at him and reminds him that he arranges everyone’s flowers and even adds his personal touch to them. this makes him even redder and hinami is so amused by this angry boy who loves setting up colourful flowers together, tied in ribbons.
so he arranges flowers for her, telling her the meaning of all the flowers, how to take care of the bouquet, asking if that’s how she wants it, giving her a pretty vase and soft ribbons. she admires his concentration while doing it, and how much care he really puts into it
when hinami goes to pay, he stops her, telling her that since it’s her first time here, it’s on the house. once she leaves, hikari snorts and tells him that’s Not A Thing,, they never give out free bouquets for the first time
hinami comes by a lot, even if it’s just to annoy ayato who of course is never annoyed no matter how frustrated he pretends he is with her. he takes her around the shop, pointing at new plants and tells her about them, about his favourite flowers and why he likes them. she finds that he knows pretty much all the breeds of flowers and its such a cute fact of him that she really likes. ayato notices that she buys flowers every time she comes, and wonders who they’re for. is it for someone in hospital? maybe a partner? is she on a date? or just for tattoo references? no she has to be on a date right? he never asks though and hinami can tell he’s curious
one time when she comes in, she finds ayato kneeling down on the ground with a six-year old girl, helping her plant a seed into a pot drawn all over with crayon, presumably by the girl. he doesn’t notice her at first, and she wants him smile proudly at the girl and reach out to help her.
the little girl notices hinami before ayato does, asking who she is excitedly, that had ‘uncle ayato finally found a girlfriend’. hinami finds out that this is ayato’s niece, ichika kaneki. she realises that the name ‘ichika’ means ‘one flower’ thinking its a nice link to the flower shop. arata then comes to take ichika back to the coffee shop.
ayato and hinami wonder over to the counter where ayato asks what flowers she would like this time. when she says she’s unsure, he hesitates before asking who they’re for, since she buys them so frequently.
hinami smiles and tells him it’s for her mother who’s been in hospital. ayato quickly apologises, but she reassures him and tells him that her mother is being released from the hospital at the end of the week, that she had really loved ayato’s flowers
ayato is really happy for her, but he also secretly worries that hinami will stop coming by. once hinami leaves with the flowers to visit the hospital, her mother finds a note in the flowers. she hands the note to hinami.
it read “don’t wanna wait till morning again to talk to you *insert phone number* - ayato.” hinami can tell that arata advised ayato to write that in the note and she can imagine ayato saying that it’s ‘trash’ and ‘gross’ while writing it onto the card anyway with a red face.
it’s not just hinami visiting the flower shop by the next week, ayato starts visiting her tattoo shop. he likes seeing her sketch illustrations and of course it’s another excuse to see her when it’s his break. her mother is released from the hospital, and the kirishimas bring them flowers again, but this time ayato smiles at the fueguchis and gives them the flowers without hikari needing to step in
touka notices something is up with ayato, because he has started to ask her questions about how she and kaneki revealed their feelings for each other and how they knew they were in love. and he usually never asks these questions because it’s ‘gross’. she teases him and asks who it is that has his heart stirred up. he refuses to tell her, so hikari, who walks in, tells touka it’s ‘hinami fueguchi from the tattoo shop next door’.
touka, of course, is not the best romantic so it’s ken who gives him the idea to send hinami flowers meaning something to do with love. ayato rejects this idea at first, but three minutes later he’s grabbing a bouquet of flowers and scribbling a note and setting off to the tattoo shop. he’s so flustered he doesn’t realise he grabbed the flowers meaning ‘erotic love’ rather than the flowers meaning secret love
hinami isn’t at the tattoo shop when he gets there. he’s disappointed, but it may have been for the best, he thinks. so he leaves the flowers on her counter, with ‘from ayato’ on the note attached. hinami once she gets back remembers that ayato told her those flowers meant ‘erotic love’ and is confused but amused he sent those. she’s certain he was meant to send flowers meaning infatuation or something of the sort, but accidentally sent erotic love instead.
the next day, she walks into the flower shop. ayato notices her and his breath hitches, waiting for what she’ll say. he asks her if there’s a specific plant or flower she’s looking for, but she says she knows what to get. ayato takes this as the first sign of rejection. then hinami walks to a shelf and grabs flowers meaning ‘requited feelings’. ayato, of course, knows what those flowers mean and thinks they’re for someone else. so when he’s charging her, he shakily hands the flowers to her. she takes them for a second, before putting them back into his hands.
‘they’re for you, kirishima-kun’. hinami smiles at him, watching his shocked reaction. he doesn’t know how to react so she explains how he sent the flowers of erotic love to her and he goes so red she’s convinced he’s the tomato plant on the shelf.
‘kirishima-kun-‘ hinami begins to explain her feelings for him, but he interrupts saying, ‘ayato. call me that instead.’
hinami straight up tells him he likes her, and ayato isn’t good with words, so instead, he leans over and kisses her over the counter with the flowers between them. what they don’t know is that hikari, arata, touka, ken and ichika (the kirishimas + kanekis) were conveniently in the door way watching them at that moment
before ayato can comment, touka says ‘what’s this about sending a bouquet of flowers meaning erotic love now?’ hikari joins in the teasing while ayato covers his face groaning.
after that, hinami is invited for dinner with the kirishimas and the kanekis. the end!
A worried Ayato
