“Every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you,” Walt Whitman wrote in one of his profoundest verses, in a golden age of science and social change, yet an era at least as divisive as ours.
This stunning cyanotype painting by artist Lia Halloran, celebrating Whitman’s immortal words, is available as a print with 100% of proceeds benefiting the endeavor to build NYC’s first public observatory – an ultimate invitation to unforget our shared humanity under the dome of the cosmic perspective.

No more sweatshirts
A dear friend reminded me that this blog existed. So here I am, again, for now.
I am no longer a college student living in Tokyo. I have since transplanted myself to Kansas City, MO -- for anyone keeping track. I don’t wear yellow sweatshirts anymore. I don’t wear sweatshirts anymore. I am trying refine myself, my wardrobe included. Maybe I will keep at least one yellow sweatshirt in the closet, for sentimental reasons. Mari Kondo would approve.
Instead, I go hiking in heels. Given that this is my third time doing so, I have decided this is a thing now. I don’t mean that it should be the new health craze, but wearing heels is fun and I refuse to let them impede my ability to enjoy a stroll in the woods.
On today’s hike, there was a lovely sense of security following the pre-marked muddy path. Given more time on those paths, I would love to wander off of them and would feel more comfortable walking closer to the mossy tree trunks. I also realized I had never done anything so risky as getting lost in the woods as a child. That probably contributes a lot to my anxiety as an adult, but that’s something to unpack another day.

“Nevertheless, the fact is that there is nothing as dreamy and poetic, nothing as radical, subversive, and psychedelic, as mathematics. It is every bit as mind blowing as cosmology or physics… and allows more freedom of expression than poetry, art, or music… Mathematics is the purest of the arts, as well as the most misunderstood.” - Paul Lockhart
I know I’ve posted this before, but it’s always worth revisiting. So great.
