SO !!!!!! hax and rowl are rescued from the villains (caught and arrested for killing a guy in an alley) when theyre 10 and 14 respectively, rowl is held in juvy for 6 months before being passed around foster homes for about a year, while hax is too young to be held legally accountable for his actions & is put into foster care <- thankfully !!!!!! he gets a good one !!!!! and he gets adopted :3 anyways . hax's new family eventually finds rowl (its hard because rowl and hax arent biological siblings . or even legally recognized siblings in any sense) and they foster him :] its hard . for everyone . hax and rowl are . difficult to handle at the best of times . but for 2 years everythings looking nice :D at rowl's highschool he meets mongey, and at hax and rowl's villain-org-survivor-therapy-group they meet infume, and haxand rowl are getting therapy and rowl's opening up to their foster parents!!!!!!! and then . rowl gets taken back to century :D and he gets . Fucked up dude . anyways . he stays there for 2 years . during which mongey studies for his position as a hero spy, like he did in regular :reform !!!! he goes undercover in century, like he did in :reform, BUT !!!!! this time !!!!!!!!! he rescues rowl :D and everything's . not okay . but it gets there :] theres an actual happy ending in this au . i think it'd break mod 💥 if there wasnt

Rowl sits on the bed, staring at the pink monkey and snowman plushies on the desk. The snowman was a gift from Couriway. The monkey he bought because it reminded him of Mongey. He meant to burn it. He really did.

He promises himself that he’ll burn it tomorrow. Except that’s what he told himself the night before, and the night before that. Perhaps everything would be easier if he stopped lying to himself. 

Or maybe the only reason he’s still going is because he’s lying to himself. 

Rowl sighs as he stands up and walks to the desk. He stares down at the two plushies. One of these nights he’s going to stop doing this. Today is not that night. He picks up the two plushies, more carefully than he’ll ever admit, and walks them over back to the bed. 

He hugs them close as he collapses onto the bed, curling up on top of the blanket. It’s kind of cold. He wishes he had the warmth of someone to hold again. He doesn’t get to wish for that.

He doesn’t deserve happiness. Not in this life, or the next. 

But he can pretend. 

After all, the only place he can be happy is in his dreams, and even then it's rare.

if you have a very strong/powerful character and you DON'T muzzle and chain them and beat it into them that they're only good as a blunt instrument of violence and use their completely natural reactions to this mistreatment as 'proof' that they're innately dangerous and the mistreatment is necessary + justified then what's even the point tbh

like why even bother corrupting a hero if it's only temporary. at the very least when they ARE 'freed' by their teammates there should be a lingering sense of loss that culminates over time into them realizing they MISSED being at your command so they end up tracking you down, not to stop you but to beg you to enthrall them again so they can turn their brain off in a way that was blissful to them. just saying.

OP is 100% on this. the hero knows they are imperfect. that there is no such thing as a True Hero. they are just another person, one who cannot permit themself to be truly at ease; to be truly free.
