With Arthurâs recent spending history, he might as well become the Poison Roomâs patron. Fresh blooms for seraphs long passed. Lilacs for baskets to be auctioned. And now a bouquet of safflowers for Ayla Karadeniz. Although Arthur was trying not to make sudden welcomes a habit, the case of a private investigator was something any seraph upholding the Accord needed to keep an eye on. An unsupervised private eye can easily get themselves meddled in the supernatural, especially one who hasnât learned where not to poke their nose yet. But this was just a warm-hearted welcome into the neighborhood, nothing too seriousâŚUntil the secretary opened the door and Arthur heard the bells. And the bells never lie.
âThe bellsâ being the only term he can use to describe a seraphâs sense of supernatural detection. A PI and a supernatural? Fascinating. Arthur thanked the secretary escorting him and greeted Ayla with a smile. âUm, hello! Iâm Arthur, Arthur Hawthorne. Iâm a regular at the flower shop across the street and I just wanted to drop by and say hello, welcome to the city. I know the first couple days here can be chaotic but youâll learn to love it eventually. â

The office had become her home, most nights Ayla found her way back here and passed out usually in some drunken state of her own doing. So, when she hired a secretary to help part time, it was mostly so Ayla would have someone to help with the people who came in, and to keep people away when she was not in the mood at all. The couch in her office was getting a lot of traffic, mostly since she didnât have an apartment to live in otherwise. She could hear the secretary talking to someone cheerfully, more cheerfully than her usual demeanor and Ayla sat up a little in her chair groaning at what she could only expect coming her way. Her secretary didnât get that cheerful unless someone was flirting with her or had really won her over. Either way it was not good for who was going to come through that door, especially not when her head was pounding.Â
The door opened and she spotted a tall man with a bunch of sunflowers and a wide grin. She hadnât taken off her sunglasses from that morning, so she merely stared at him behind the dark frames. âYouâre the welcome wagon?â She asked, tilting the frames down to properly size him up. âI donât remember asking for the welcome wagon to swing by.â His cheerful smile was met by an unamused look and one of annoyance.Â
