Since getting back into town, it had been a whirlwind of getting back into contact with everyone she had left behind all those years ago. It felt like every day was someone new to run back into and that day was no different. Upon opening up the door to the diner, Kaiya had spotted Ayla there sitting alone. The Emmersons had always been a close knit bunch with the Eldridge family, their moms being friends and bringing the kids into it as well, so Kai had always maintained a good friendship with the bunch of them, Ayla included.
Whistling her service dog in with her, Kaiya headed over to the booth where Ayla was sitting, lifting a hand up in greeting. “I’m starting to think I can’t leave the house without running into at least one of you Emmersons somewhere,” she joked, flashing Ayla a grin. “It’s good to see you. Care for some company?” she asked, head bobbing towards one of the empty seats. “I ask as a formality, but you really can’t say no. We’ve got twelve years to catch up on and the brief family update from Angel just isn’t enough.” Plopping down in the seat across from Ayla at that point, Kaiya made herself comfortable, Roxie curling at her feet with a satisfied flop as well. “You look good, by the way. Total glow up.”
It took her a second or two to place the woman, but blinking a bit to clear the fuzz in her mind and her expression immediately lit up with recognition.
“Yes! Yeah, please.” At the offering of Kaiya’s presence, she gleefully agreed, practically begging as if the other girl wasn’t already taking up a spot across from her. “I would never.” Ayla felt herself grin in return, minimizing her tabs, closing her laptop and pushing it to the side. The binder was plopped on top and she leaned forward taking Kaiya in with hearts for eyes. As if her smile could get any brighter, it shined ten fold at the compliment.
“Well, fear not, I am here now, ready to answer any and all questions and fill you in on twelve years of hot, hot goss.” Now, this was preferred over being alone, over doing work on a day off and Ayla giggled happily at the new company. “But what about you. How have you been?”
