Benny The Surrogate Cat Dad
Benny (Benedict Cumbercat) gets the most joy when his human mom brings home rescued kittens, so he can help look after them and show them the same love that he received when he was rescued. Whenever Ellen brings home an orphan baby (or a box of babies), Benny anticipates their arrival and is filled with excitement. He becomes their dedicated surrogate dad, and his fatherly instinct kicks in the moment he sees a kitten.

Albert Hofmann was a Swiss chemist who lived to the ripe, old age of 102. He first synthesized LSD in 1938 at Sandoz Laboratories when experimenting with ergot, a fungus that grows on rye and corn. Hofmann hoped to create a drug that would energize the human circulatory system. The crystals of lysergic acid diethylamide number twenty-five rubbed against his palms, sending him into what he referred to as “a very strange psychic situation that was similar to childhood…I felt oneness with the world.” He then decided to experiment on himself, and during the experiment he feared he became insane. In the 1950s, Hofmann’s invention was used in psychiatric hospitals under the prescription name Delysid. During the 1960s counterculture movement, such prominent figures as Ken Kesey and Jerry Garcia (and Timothy Leary) partook in the chemical’s consumption, with Leary reportedly having taken it thousands of times.
Hofmann was once named one of the hundred greatest living geniuses and wrote a book about the molecule he concocted called LSD: My Problem Child.
