I’m not here much these days (oops sorry!) but thought I’d drop in to share my story “Tabula Rasa” out in the latest issue of The Temz Review! This is one of my favourite stories I’ve ever written, so I wanted to share it with you all! The logline for this piece is: A self-absorbed teenager has to face how her sister’s disappearance has affected her and her family, when her mom lets a hitchhiker move into her sister’s old bedroom. Shenanigans ensue!

SHAELIN BISHOP What I feared most was the day she’d hold a knife out to me in one hand and a rabbit in the other and demand I slot blade into animal. I could not do jigsaw puzzles because it conjured this inevitability. I could not peel carrots. But she never did, perhaps so I would always need her.
I’ve been pretty absent from this blog lately (oops!) but figured I’d stop by since I’ve got a story out in The Common today! Ft. A little baby gay romance, rabbits, and the cost of self preservation. (Aka: I tried to write a sweet lesbian coming of age love story, but, because it’s me, it ended up being ✨traumatic✨ oops). I don’t think I’ve ever put more work into a story than this one, I even nicknamed it ‘the ship of theseus’ at one point because I’d edited it so many times, but I’m so happy with the end result and that it’s found a home in The Common!
Tw: depictions of an abusive household/animal cruelty.

Excited to share that my 2nd flash piece, “After Hours,” is out now in the new issue of Vagabond City Lit! Bizarre performance art, rumours, trains, fish, and some more funky weird vibes in this one!
