Ayzenberg sp[a]ce is proud to announce its second exhibition, Forget What You Know, with participating artists Ako Castuera, Alex Gross, Brooks Salzwedel, Jason Holley, Maria Rendon, Megan Whitmarsh, Sally Deng, Gary Taxali, and Hollis Hart. 

sp[a]ce is free to attend and is held every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm at Ayzenberg until December 31st. 

The artists in this follow up exhibition at sp[a]ce range from abstraction to narrative storytelling to graphic symbolism and photography. Through a variety of mixed media and scale, the works each hold their own bold voice and once again help transform sp[a]ce into a unique and inspiring experience. As stated unvarnished through Gary Taxali’s painting of the same name, Forget What You Know urges us to reimagine and perhaps alter our often rigid understanding of how things are or should be.

Walnut St. Pasadena, CA 91103 Tim Biskup is a Southern California artist whose practice is focused mainly on abstract and figurative painting, but extends into sculpture, printmaking and music. He studied fine art at Otis/ Parsons before entering the animation and illustration industries where he honed his technical skills. In 1999 he gathered a community of artists and began hosting live art auctions at bars around Los Angeles. He quickly found an audience for his personal work. His complex color and design theories pushed forward a decidedly populist aesthetic, which has continued to develop and morph over the years. Now, with an established following and over a dozen solo exhibitions under his belt, he is beginning work on a mid-career retrospective book and museum exhibition slated for launch in 2017.

Join us for For the Good Times, sp[a]ce’s inaugural exhibition, starting May 7.

The title of this first exhibition at sp[a]ce speaks of the humor and positive notions that many of the artists express with the works. But the phrase can also suggest that perhaps the good times are behind us and could infer a somewhat uncertain future. 

Like with many of the pieces featured, there is a duality that exists; at once positive, playful and cheerful and yet melancholy and wistful.
