“…Terra?”
Terra story on Teen Titans is one of the biggest cliffhangers of my childhood, I wish they did a better ending to her relationship with Beast Boy
Important Announcement ;
here’s the short version:
i’ve decided to begin the transition of archiving this blog and remaking from scratch. this url will become ‘azarathian-archive’ and my new blog will take on the url ‘azarathian’.
i’ve been putting off doing this for a while now, and i think the only thing holding me back was losing my followers and having to start fresh. i’m at a stage now where follower count no longer matters to me, and having had this blog since 2012, i’m fairly convinced that 60% of my followers are inactive/abandoned blogs anyway...
i’ll start spamming this blog with a post telling you all to follow my new one once it’s made and the urls are changed. i have many reasons for wanting to remake but i won’t go into them all. hopefully those who still want to follow my stuff will see this, or one of my spammed posts, and follow the new blog instead. i don’t want anyone to get left behind.
and finally, to clarify: this does not mean i’m restarting stories/plots/verses/threads/relationships etc. everything i’ve built on this blog remains. it’ll just be a clean slate from a technical perspective. and yes, i’ll link my archived blog and all its content on my new blog once it’s made.
ty for reading guys, keep an eye out ~ ❤

Masks and Monsters ||
As she pushed herself up from her bruised knees, Raven felt that dull, post-battle ache cling to her bones. Her limbs slunk, weighted like solid led. As her heart thumped in her skull, wracking her slender frame, she stood and looked to her leader as he finished the job. After a messy fight, they’d managed to knock out and subdue the thief that had infiltrated the museum. Police force stood on alert outside with their weapons, awaiting the signal to intervene and take their foe away. The empath calmed her breath, regaining composure as best she could, given her injuries. Her violet eyes watched as her teammates approached the fallen man, a heap on the cold, fractured tile.
Robin gave a nod to Cyborg, who knelt down and administered a quick and sharp injection to the neck. Harmless, but enough to keep him unconscious whilst being transported by reinforcements. After all, this was no ordinary thief. No ordinary villain, at that. And as the five gathered together in the aftermath, their tense temples and sombre eyes expressed the same concern: What business did an elite criminal like this have in robbing a lowly museum?...
Cyborg was the first to speak.
“So Psimon was after… this thing?” he said, standing over the crystal shard laying amongst the shattered glass that once guarded it. “Looks like it,” Robin returned. “Question is, why?”
And a good question it was. Psimon was with the Brotherhood. He was no low-grade villain, but a powerful one, of whom the titans saw little of in their everyday work. He had no reason to come to Jump. To a museum. So what intentions had he had for this curious jewel? Surely, this surpassed a motive of money alone. The Brotherhood wanted this for something else.
Raven took a step closer, and just as Starfire went to speak, all heads swung to the left as the crystal skidded across the floor to land at the cloaked girl’s feet – entirely on its own.
“… Okay, am I the only one who saw that?” asked a confused Beast Boy, before their leader shushed him. Raven stared at the gem along with her team, though unlike the others, she felt a certain compelling force rise within her, almost calling her to pick it up. As she bent down to do so, the sound of Robin uttering “be careful, we don’t know what it is” sifted through her ears. She proceeded slowly, but as her stretched fingers reached toward the relic, it emitted a silver glow and began to shake in place. The unexpected motion snapped her back to the room, her arm instinctively pulling away.
“That’s… normal,” she stated, a brow lifted. “Whatever it is, it’s important. And now, it counts as evidence,” said Robin, bringing order back to the situation. “We’ll have to take it back and investigate, but we can’t touch it.” Everyone nodded, including Raven. He looked to her. “Do you think you can send it back?”
She answered by casting the item in a black sphere, lifting it from the floor with no contact at all. It was still once more.
“Good. Starfire and I will take care of Psimon. You three, make sure that goes to the Evidence Room. We’ll see you back at the tower.”

Hours had passed since the fight. Robin’s orders had been followed, yet even with the crystal two floors down from her bedroom where she sat, Raven couldn’t shake the image of it from her mind. It was as if it had a voice. One that could pull her to it. She had meditated, read, even tried to nap. But this thing plagued her like some unfinished chapter. Were the others feeling like this? Like the investigation couldn’t wait? She was sure Robin would be doing his research in his room, but would case files and data logs really find anything?
She tore her eyes from the ceiling, and found herself making for the door. With static in her brain, her feet carried her down flights of stairs, already knowing their destination. Perhaps if she could… just look at it again. For reference. She could try to find a scroll on it, if one even existed. She needed to do something, regardless. After all, if Psimon was after it, then it possessed some kind of power.
The metal of the door slid open with a clink. She lingered at the doorway for a moment, watching the room cast in shadow. Uncertain, the girl moved forward. Her steps were almost silent as she drifted through the many objects relating to all manner of crimes. But when she reached it, she came to a halt. It sat there, upon a black podium, lifeless. Her brow creased and face grew taut as she stared down at it. Slowly, a pale hand unveiled itself from beneath her cloak, and was raised before her cautiously. She hesitated, a part of her knowing what might happen should she proceed, but the magus did so all the same.
Carefully, the tips of her fingers neared the shard, which emitted that same glow as before. Her lips pressed together, a tension in her throat, and she reached out to touch it. On contact, the crystal seemed to burst open in a flare of light. Raven gasped and stepped back, knees beginning to bend as if engaging in battle stance. Her eyes were soldered to the sight before her, unable to even blink, until the light diminished like a fizzled flame.
And once it did… what stood in its place granted her all the answers she’d needed of its purpose, and its power.

She wasn’t wrong about that - Junior certainly meant more than he said. When he offered to provide anything for Raven, that was him telling her that he liked her. Admired what kind of person she was. Desired, even. Love was too strong of a word, but in the back of his mind part of him would die if he saw her holding hands with another person. Dumb teenage hormones, right? Then again, it only made sense to grow attracted to someone similar to him, close to his age, whom had shown him kindness. And displayed strength and courage.
“I know I don’t need to. It’s just… I don’t know. You know how if someone buys you something and emphasizes that it’s on them, you still feel the need to repay them? I guess it’s kinda like that. My way of saying thanks.”
A warm, comforting smile stretches over those soft lips of his, and he lazily lifted up a thumbs-up.
“Besides. Gotta look out for my spooky friends.” To him, spooky was in a way an endearing word. Like a marshmallow in the shape of a cartoon ghost. Or those dumb skeleton memes everyone’s so fond of on the internet.
Her gaze lingered on him even once he’d silenced. Something was stirring in her head, beneath her skin. It wallowed there like the afterglow of sun and ache of a fresh bruise in one. It felt comforting - and sore - and restless. Like she couldn’t sit still because of it, yet her eyes remained pinned.
He really needn’t explain what he meant. She knew. And she knew because she mirrored all that he’d said; the want over the need; the metaphor; the appreciation for the other’s company. It was, in essence, very simple to her, but still her mind spun in her head.
Heaving herself back to reality, Raven caught her breath. Composed herself. She let a small, somewhat awkward laugh slip from her lips. One might’ve lost the sound in the breeze.
So... she was his ‘spooky friend’.
She could be okay with that.
The weight of her soft smile brought her lids to lower slightly with it. “Just so you know, the feeling’s mutual,” she told him in that thin, rolling voice.

While Junior didn’t appear to be much of a talker, all it took was the right atmosphere, the right company, and the right topic and he’ll start prattling on. Though when he realized that Raven wasn’t talking as much as he was, Junior’s grin faded, though not necessarily to make way for a frown, but rather a neutral expression. Neither positive, nor negative. Much akin to the girl he was beginning to develop feelings for.
“Nobody’s ever been as nice to me as you have,” Junior confessed, idly shifting in his spot so that he was free to slouch forward and as consequence, closer toward Raven. His tone softened, and the shadow he began to cast with the moon above brought out the soft radiance of his otherworldly eyes.
“I’ve had to deal with cruddy people my entire life. Your company just… It’s- It’s a breath of fresh air for me. So… If you ever need anything, like a- a shoulder, advice, something to borrow, a place to stay, literally anything, tell me.”
“I just feel I should… Give something back, you know?”
The statement brought about a shift in the air. Raven’s features fell slack as she absorbed the boy’s poignant tone, a sense of concern misting her eyes. Of course, she knew from the start that his soul was troubled. Her power could detect and cling to that kind of torment from a mile away. But her presence had seemed to ease his aura. Push those thoughts down. So what had suddenly made him bring something like this up?...
She listened, resonating with his confession. The heroine was truly lucky to not have to live amongst those kind of people. To have free reign of her life. A choice. The same couldn’t really be said of a high school student such as himself. Just as she moved to reply, however, he pursued, leaving her heart to suddenly sink to her stomach.
A foreign warmth crawled upon her skin, blooming to the sides of her face, lit by a silver moon.
“You don’t... need to give anything back,” she began, unsure whether to simply accept his offer and leave it be. But it felt wrong to. He was trying to communicate something more than what lay on the surface; she saw that even beyond the vague expression he wore.

The changeling listened to her words with a soft smile. When she was done, he gave her a slight chuckle. “Well, I don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot like being a couple to me.” He rested his head on her shoulder playfully and looked up at her. “But I’m no dictionary, so, correct me if I’m wrong.” Beast Boy couldn’t help but feel this was the easiest way to Raven admitting they were a couple; by not actually saying anything.
Raven wouldn’t say it, but the coy smile that unveiled itself showed she was all too grateful for the patient approach of her teammate. How naturally he received her words. How unashamedly himself he’d become around her. That sense of comfort and quiet confidence he exuded was almost enough to assure her that... this didn’t have to be scary. This could be easy. Natural. If she would let it be.
She gently nudged his head off her shoulder as a teasing schoolgirl might.
“You’re really tenacious. You know that?” she spoke lowly. Tellingly.
Wasn’t that the Raven way, after all? No satisfaction in stating the obvious. She supposed he was smart enough to read her by now.
