i dont know if there's a fic like that already but i NEEEEEEEED a fic inspired by dofp in a sense that maybe peter goes back to the past because in the future something happens and charles dies and erik goes NUTS like it literally unlocks something inside him where he starts to destroy everything and everyone because he wants to punish the world because of charles' death and since he's totally out of control the x men decided they should change the past to change the future.

im thinking about a canon divergence where charles was never shot in cuba, but the beach divorce still happens. maybe for the same reason in xmfc "we want the same thing" "im sorry my friend, but we do not" or because instead of shooting charles, he shoots moira. he kills her, and charles refuses to forgive him.

so they go on separate ways, erik creates the brotherhood and charles the x men. they only see each other in battle (erik goes from time to time to the mansion to check on charles while he's sleeping, the only moment where charles won't look at him in anger, resentment and betrayal, knowing he won't get caught bc of his helmet. charles finds out about this later on when logan joins the team) sometimes getting lost in their own bickering.

a few years go by like this, until one day peter shows up at the mansion's door with a sheepish smile with erik and raven behind him, saying that he has something important to tell them all and they need to talk.

charles isn't surprised erik went rogue in the future. he is, however, with mixed feelings knowing the cause of it is him.

they need to come with a plan to stop whatever has happened from happening again, to avoid charles' death.

that would eventually lead to a confrontation between charles and erik, where they need to actually talk about their feelings.

I LOVE the headcanon that Charles fell in love with Erik the moment he felt his mind. It makes so much sense with him jumping into the ocean within a minute of knowing Erik exists. Like yeah we know Erik is a badass nazi hunter at that point but Charles is just a twink academic LMAO he has no business jumping into the ocean like that!!! genuinely like one of the most romantic scenes I've ever seen in a movie, I melt every time I watch it. Charles really felt Erik's pain and trauma and said THATS MY MAN
