[English translation] Ohno Satoshi - Hanako magazine No. 1107 April 2016
WILL YOU MARRY ME?
You are mine.
I want to see your face lost in love.
The tale which will realize our wishes shall gently flutter down upon us this spring.
“I wanted to do something I have never done before.”
It’s been two years since Ohno-san was in a leading role for a serial drama. This time, he’s Samejima Reiji, the young CEO of a hotel chain in the drama Sekaiichi Muzukashii Koi. He’s rich and infamous. We will witness this obstinate man bow down at mercy for love.
“This is my first time doing romantic comedy. There’s no way but to face it head on.”
“It’s been a while since I did my last drama. It feels refreshing to be able to do this, and I’m grateful for that. After the art exhibition ended last year, I thought to myself, “What should I do next?”. I wanted to do something I have never done before. I started doing Jeet Kune Do*. I received the drama offer around that time. I thought this story could actually work for me. It was decided pretty quickly.”
Up until now, Ohno-san has avoided doing love stories, thinking that it doesn’t suit his personality.
“The members know very well that I’m not good with these kinds of stories, so when they knew that I was going to do it, they were like “Ooh, finally!”. (laughs)”
In response to Samejima’s rude behavior towards girls during arranged dates, a disgruntled Ohno says, “Who does he think he is? (laughs)”
But when we asked Ohno-san on his thoughts on arranged dates for marriage, he seems perplexed.
“How do you get to know the person to begin with? Do you just reject the person the second you see her picture?”
“Samejima and I are very different (laughs). That’s exactly why I look forward to this. He’s probably the human version of Kaibutsu-kun when it comes to being arrogant. (laughs)”
We asked Ohno-san what, for him, is the most difficult thing in the world. Ohno-san replied in a small voice, “Peace of mind…it’s hard, you know (laughs)”
His answer baffled us. Seeing our reaction, he gave out a little laugh.
“But you know, in many ways I don’t think I need peace of mind. Now’s not the time to live a carefree life. I’m still not a grown-up. Not yet. (laughs)”
Love affects a person’s growth - which is most likely why love is the most difficult thing in the world.
“Personally, I think meeting different people affects my growth as a person. I wouldn’t know how to live my life if I were all alone. After all, life is about meeting and dealing with people. It’s not always fun but, I think I’m blessed with good people around me. I’m blessed with Arashi members. Those four guys always stand by me, and I think that gives me the greatest peace of mind.”
“I haven’t experienced the kind of love that affects my growth as a person but, through Samejima, something might change within me. Towards the last episode, I might be able to say something like “Being in love is amazing!” (laughs). Falling in love as Samejima Reiji, I, too, will be more mature!”
At this rate, we will see more girls fall in love with Ohno-san this spring.
