Soft Blocking
So I was looking at Twitter (I know, my own fault, right?) and found out about this weird phenomenon known as soft blocking. To summarise the act, or at least what I have learned, soft blocking appears to be a means of social culling wherein you block and then immediately unblock somebody, such that all following and (sometimes) all history of interaction is removed but there is no rigid enforcement.
I have to say, I'm not at all impressed by whoever decided this was smart or mature. Frankly, I find it to be the opposite, and here are my reasons why.
If you have enough of a problem with somebody that you want to expunge all contact, why go through this game of removing them from your social circle but not actually enforcing their removal? Surely if a person's antics warrant distance that badly, you should just commit to a real block. Besides, without actual blocking, what stops the other party from coming back?
And that leads me on to another point I have against this practice. Soft blocking is not obvious. People say that the targets of soft blocks should take a hint (oh, the field day I could have with hinting behaviours), but what hint are you actually sending? Glitches happen (especially on Twitter), people may be starting fresh on new accounts after a suspension, and sometimes a would-be follower is forgetful and might simply assume a lack of interaction is down to bad memory. The onus shouldn't be on the target to read the cards in your hand, but rather, you should just be frank. Not to mention that if everyone relies on hints, how are people supposed to ever figure out what is happening? Do you really propose that everyone should stumble through social networks under the assumption that if somebody is missing from their feed then there must be contempt? Imagine how many bonds that would screw up because something like account loss or a system error separated two people's profiles. As I said above, if somebody is worth expulsion from your life - even if it's just down to you not meshing well with their vibes or output - and you don't want them coming back, stick to the unambiguous hard block. And if they don't warrant a hard block, either communicate your issues, mute whichever categories you don't want to see, unfollow them, or just leave well enough alone.
And another thing that gets me is this expectation that if somebody unfollows you, that they owe you a free removal. The irony of people expressing this argument as "I'm not your fan" when the follow button is for fans! I don't follow people to befriend them. Not because of some opposition to connection, but because a follow is just that - a means to follow updates and output from a person. Frankly, if somebody didn't vibe with my output enough to unfollow, I'm not going on an ego trip and barking at them for not purging me from their followers list, because I followed them for what they do, and it's their choice what they see. Hell, I've already had it happen to me, and you know what I did? Nothing! Because I'm not inherently owed by whoever follows or unfollows, and you - the reader - are in the same boat.
To summarise, soft blocking does not stop somebody from coming back, fails to send a clear message, and ultimately seems to have little-to-no practicality.
I miss when this aesthetic was the norm. Everything's so flat nowadays

Something I cooked up for my videos.
I had a weird dream a couple of nights ago about being invited to visit a town that had been subject to a nuclear attack. Like, there wasn't a full blown war, and nobody was trying to punish anyone, but this one remote settlement was bombed by some unknown force. Somehow, a shocking amount of it and its people survived, and it was almost back to normal. Of course, almost implies some level of oddity.
Everyone only went outside in convoys, and they stayed in their cars as long as they could. Every vehicle was fitted with a Geiger counter, and there was one soldier in every carpool. Outsiders could enter and leave at will so long as they cleared it with the army detachment that had based themselves there, but the locals were banned from leaving. All their supplies were brought in weekly on trucks, with nothing being locally produced. The radiation only affected a few streets within the town, as well as a river at the north end, but a near perfect ring of contamination surrounded the place, leaving only one point of entry and exit where the ground was not as radioactive as the rest of the ring. It was a bizarre place with desolate streets, plants you couldn't touch, and sidewalks on which you could never step, but inside the buildings? Power and gas still arrived, clean water flowed, and everyone lived as if the town was only mildly inconveniencing them, as if it were little more than a monsoon beyond their walls and windows.
One last turn in this dream was that when I arrived, gruesome and mysterious deaths began to occur in the night, followed by rumours of a beast. The townsfolk did their best to ward it off, forming a hunting party in the night and spreading across town to clear it block by block, and after hunting what they thought was the being responsible, they all went home to celebrate. But this one soldier seemed off. Sick, but not in any earthly way. He strained warnings to his comrades to either kill or abandon him, but they kept shrugging him off until eventually, he transformed into the very creature that had been terrorising the town, killing his squad mates and crashing the car on a quiet road near the river.
can we kill the idea that yawning=bored because there's a million reasons to be yawning and being condescendingly asked "oh im sorry are we boring you?" because of something you can't control is really rude.
you're not boring me this is a side effect of my medication but thank you for deciding that my yawns are some sort of insult toward you and going on the offensive i loved it 👍
Return to Wet Earth Colliery and Clifton Marina
Yesterday, it finally started feeling like spring. With the sun out, everything got up to an acceptable temperature, and the day reached a peak of 16 degrees Celsius. With this in mind, I decided to revisit Wet Earth Colliery, this time taking my dedicated camera. And I uncovered a lot more than I did the first time.
I found a recessed structure made of brick, with some kind of metal apparatus lodged inside the space. Nearby was a rounded metal structure that appeared to be some kind of joint or bearing.
Furthermore, I found some kind of basin feeding into a tunnel - the purpose of which I can only infer to be part of the drainage system for the nearby Gal Pit, a small recessed brick area with an extra channel carved into the centre, and a gas vent alongside what appeared to be some kind of entrance.
While exploring, I also tried to get a view of the nearby rail line, as the park these mining landmarks are found in is bordered by a north-south train route. While I didn't get a good angle of the tracks, I did find some form of chimney sat on a hill.
After that, I then progressed to Clifton Marina, which was actually the main reason I had gone out. You see, I needed some photographs of a lake for a video I'm producing in which I shall be retelling a bizarre dream I had. I had to back away a couple of times due to geese and swans (they didn't threaten me but I didn't want to stick around and chance angering them), but I eventually managed to get enough time by the shore to take the photographs I needed.
The day out ended with some photographs of the local river. I wanted to get down to the shoreline and take some closer photos, but unfortunately it has all been barricaded due to an apparent hogweed outbreak.
Today, I returned to Clifton to get some more photographs of the mining remnants, and also because I wanted something to do. Before I got to that, however, I stopped by the lake at an area that was almost a beach.
After having a nice time away from people and sitting down at the shore, I got back up and found a way into the canal basin. From here, I managed to get photographs of one of the tunnels feeding into Gal Pit, as well as some form of metal frame laid outside the tunnel entrance.
The last item on the agenda is an assortment of bonus pictures I had taken during the trip. I saved them for here since they don't really mesh with any of the other focal points.
Some extra tags I should have used first time around

Inspired by nothing in particular...
Condensing a post from my Medium. If you are in discourse with another person and the other party says "Ok" or "Alright" or anything of that sort to show that they are still listening to you, do not ever think it appropriate to treat those words literally and tear into them for "minimising" the topic.
Having been on the receiving end of this, nothing is more annoying than some imbecile trying to tear me a new one for affirming that they have my attention. People in my position are trying to tell you that we're still listening to you and not ignoring your words, and we're trying to do it with minimal interruption. Doing the above to our response does not make you clever, righteous, or mature. In fact, it makes you the opposite; a childish jackass who seems solely focused on winning the conversation.
Grow up and find a better way.
P.S. Really don't know how to tag this. If you expected something completely different in your feed, my apologies.
Uh... (Another Weird Dream)
The other night, I had a really bizarre dream. Nothing new for me, but I'm still always surprised by what my mind can put together.
The dream starts with me falling asleep on a train and somehow waking up in a place that was claimed to be Dublin, which already makes zero sense as I'm separated from Ireland by a literal sea, which tends to make rail travel of this nature slightly impossible. Furthering this strangeness is that for some reason, dream Dublin (which I'm going to call not-Dublin due to its weird nature) was this odd, brutalist city consisting almost exclusively of black-painted high rises separated by large fields, and it was always shrouded in dense fog.
For some reason, I can't just exit not-Dublin the way I entered, and have to find a home. I'm not entirely sure how, but I then managed to convince a random guy to let me live in his apartment, even though I had literally nothing to offer (for some reason, I had lost all my money upon waking up).
Anyway, when this guy takes me back to his apartment, we watch television, and here's where the dream loses any semblance of rationality. The television show is some Hell's Kitchen spinoff wherein Gordon Ramsay has adopted Juno from Overwatch, and gently teaches her how to cook Earth foods while also focusing on the duo's daily life.
Most episodes are calm, slice-of-life affairs examining Gordon Ramsay's life as the foster dad to a Martian and Juno's culinary progress, but one episode really goes off the rails. I can't remember exactly what she did, but Juno screwed something up real bad and caused Gordon to send her to bed early. Juno was not happy about this in the slightest, and while in her bedroom, she steals a saber (from some unspecified location) and awaits Gordon.
When Gordon comes to check in, Juno has her back to a wall and is poised for combat. Gordon tries calmly talking Juno out of the impending fight and asking her to just go to sleep, promising that he won't take action for the literal saber-rattling happening before his eyes. Juno does not take well to this, and strikes Gordon. Of course, this is a dream, so the strike is mildly percussive and does not cut or maim him. Initially, Juno has the upper hand, slowly backing Gordon away, but he suddenly produces his own saber (from an equally nebulous source as Juno's weapon) and swiftly disarms her.
Gordon is clearly angry, but instead of dwelling on the fact his adopted Martian just attacked him with a sword, he just yells that she is grounded and tells her to go back to bed. And as much as I wish I could tell you what happened next, the dream abruptly ended after this.
Wait, do people actually hear the word "Windowlicker" in Windowlicker? Every time I try and hear it, I can't pick out any words. Just sounds like RDJ going "duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh" over and over.
Update: I still don't hear the word "windowlicker" in Windowlicker. Have a bunch of people just gaslit themselves into hearing this? I swear it's just non-lexical singing.
A little snippet of a song I'm working on. I really liked this part and thought I should share it. I'll warn listeners in advance that this part is a deviation, and the final song will be more guitar-driven with occasional breaks.
Music - Atrophy
An old song, but one I'm still proud of to this day, so I'm reposting it here. Pay no mind to the name of the project. I've never been good at nomenclature.

A long overdue publication of some photographs I took earlier in January when my home town got snowfall.

Possibly My Weirdest Dream Yet
Note: This is a long post. Longer than even my usual blogs. I won't blame you for skipping the following blocks, and I shall be providing a TL;DR at the bottom of the post.
Last night, I had a dream that ranks pretty close to the top of my "weirdest dreams" list (I jest, but with the images I see in slumber, I probably could start a list).
The dream starts in a random (fictional) friend's bedroom. It was late at night, and this friend was trying their absolute hardest to convince me to listen to Wheatus. I have no clue why my mind drew on this band because I don't even listen to them. But already, the dream gets weird, for this dream-Wheatus had undergone a bizarre fate; all of its members had simultaneously died under mysterious circumstances with no obvious cause. Somehow, my friend thought this mystery would be a selling point to get me hooked on the band, and that the songs may contain the key to solving the mysterious deaths. They even showed me fan forums to sway my mind and nobody there seemed shocked by the event - rather, they all took it as a cue to become amateur sleuths.
We started on their debut album, and my mind filled in the blanks with tracks akin to Teenage Dirtbag (which makes sense, as it's the only song of theirs I've heard). After this debut, my friend moved us on to a film that the band had commissioned the creation of, and apparently they had one film for each album except their newest.
As we listened to newer albums and watched the corresponding films, Wheatus changed. Their music became this weird alt-rock sound that I can really only describe as slow punk rock but with something off. Something that couldn't be put into words (not by me, at least) but was audibly distinct from any other band. It was also a very major sound, but the chords were twisted to be as morbid as the lyrical content. The films also grew weirder, and neither me nor my friend were any closer to figuring out what the fuck happened to the band. I don't actually remember what the films depicted, but I remember they had a bizarre genre. Not quite horror, and disturbance wasn't their goal, but they were definitely not the kind of movies you'd watch to unwind.
About halfway into the dream, the location shifted to some random port city in Norway, but despite the importance my mind placed on this scene change, it never actually affected the narrative of the dream.
During a conspicuously Christmas-themed New Year's Eve party in a house decorated with fairy lights and a Christmas tree, I walk into the living room and on one of the armchairs is the frontman of Wheatus. Except, it was not Brendan B. Brown, but instead Tyson Ritter of The All-American Rejects. Somehow, I forgot all about the mystery and the fact that Brown had seemingly been deleted from existence and found myself fanboying to a very confused Tyson who was more focused on the television.
There is one final scene change, and that is to a place I can only describe as a for-profit food bank. You had to pay for the items on the shelves but the store received its stock through donations rather than a wholesaler or agreement with a manufacturer. For some reason, I was looking for eggs, and every carton was ruined by cracked, spilled eggs. Except for one. As I'm paying, the cashier gives me my change then proceeds to lie down on a sofa that appears out of nowhere. She then morphs into somebody I know from real life and tells me that she's going to bed and asks me to lock the door when I leave. As I look out of the window, it is suddenly night; a few seconds ago, it was noon.
TL;DR A friend wanted to share their favourite band and accidentally brought me murder mystery involving a horror punk version of Wheatus fronted by Tyson Ritter.
