10D movie vs manga thoughts
- i didn't expect that everything's really spelled out in the manga. my interpretation upon watching the movie (multiple times) actually aligns with everything and that... kinda bums me out? but i've gotten good at repressing so i will just not linger on it. anyway, i like the blank spaces the movie created. i think they left out the correct lines and scenes, made some moments and dialog that dont particularly stand out in the manga into Moments
- first of all, i definitely prefer the movie over the manga. i already got spoiled on what happens beforehand but reading it all is a different, more incensing experience 😮💨
- the manga is very beautifully illustrated and the author shows great respect to dancesport but the movie really elevated the story to a whole other level
- i think the movie is more mature in both tone and characterizations and story which i really like
- people made me think suzuki is cuter in the manga but suzuki is so much cuter in the movie!! and he is smarter and more levelheaded in the movie too
- the manga doesn't really make me want to root for them to be together which the movie successfully does... the shinyas in the movie are still flawed and their relationship doesn't go smoothly but their conflicts feel grounded and real so im able to understand where they're both coming from. but maybe the manga isnt really trying to do that. idk
- it feels like the movie kinda weeded out details that arent completely necessary, rearranged things and then polished the characters and the story
- they got rid of and changed a bunch of details and it made their emotions and choices in the movie more nuanced
- im still confused why ppl say manga suzuki is more joyful than movie suzuki. up until the point after the latin dance comp with alberto, they have the same reactions. if it's the reaction to the princess waltz, his shock is still there and his joy in being led by sugiki is shown in later scenes. it's the same thing, just shown differently
- people made me think the manga is more cheesy romantic but it's not even... the movie does the romance better imo
- i really like the change in metaphors used in the movie, i.e., them being "grim reaper and angel" vs "monster and hero/god". it's more grounded, it highlights even more how they're two sides of the same coin, the angel of death and the angel who seeks to defeat him
- i like the blank spaces the movie chose to create. like how in the manga, sugiki fully explains his motivations but in the movie "if i can never win, why do i keep trying?" is left unanswered and invites viewers to ponder on the question and even do some self-reflection. things like that are really cool
- ppl say they switch in the manga but it's... up until the part where suzuki tries to force sugiki to suck his dick, suzuki was pretty clearly the sub. it seemed so sudden that suzuki was claiming to be an intense and rough top when they were setting him up for realizing that he actually likes following (bottoming) more? apart from that, i dont get why they cant just talk it out. it's not like in the movie where they barely talk to each other cause they're being guarded and proud. they talk quite a bit in the manga so i dont get why they couldn't talk that out also. they confessed their feelings and then decided abruptly that it cant work out. idk that made no sense
- anyway in the movie, they very much decided sugiki is a sadist dom and suzuki is a bratty masochist sub. that's very much implied
- i really hate the part where sugiki whores himself out for suzuki to have a sponsor and neither of them bat an eye to it. it's fucked up, dont just accept it?? does suzuki not feel any sort of guilt or even jealousy? after the whole giulio thing? makes no sense
- there were some? a lot? of plot points that either makes no sense or are glossed over. too many details that arent really that necessary and dont really add much to the character or to any aspect of the story
- i don't wanna disparage the manga too much. again, i respect the author and her work and im grateful for it because it's what brought us the movie and they take heavily from the source material. idk if im just not that familiar with manga as a medium, but the writing is too all over the place for me to be able to appreciate it. i dont mind some of the more controversial (?) tropes in it or things that are different from the movie, i just find the way that everything is woven together to be messy and at times, unfit. and the movie kind of rearranges and polishes it so that it will be more coherent and grounded and nuanced
10D manga first read live reaction thread from a movie-first fan, very movie-biased pov
- oh wow they stuck pretty close to the manga for this beginning part. though i can already tell movie aki and manga aki are quite different
- is suzuki also low income in the movie? i feel like he isnt? i mean, he doesn't live in the most well-off neighborhood but he seems like he gets by well enough. not rich but also not poor...
- manga suzuki is already flustered lol
- oh they omitted suzuki's dad in the movie
- gay as hell "yeah fusako's pretty, but Look At Sugiki"
- "i dont like him. i wanna see him completely lose his cool" brat tendencies already surfacing
- damn the ballroom stans get that vicious? lmao. or is it an in-universe feature only?
- oh sugiki's mom and suzuki's dad got beef
- oh wow they're also around the same height as in the manga. truly wonder who the other actors were that were offered the roles
- suzuki is nicer in the manga haha but it's also fun watching suzuki being bratty in the movie from the get-go
- "your dick's an emperor too huh?" im cryin
- i feel like they made the girls more "equal"? to the guys in the movie. sugiki doesn't order fusako around, fusako teaches and leads of her own accord. so does aki
- machi was so good at acting out the physicality of how sugiki dances/struggles to do latin
- "it's a tune about a river somewhere" oh so sugiki hummed river flows in you in the manga. (> oh it's the blue danube)
- manga suzuki is a bit ditzy (?)
- just randomly kissing ur rival/teacher/student but no homo lmao
- people said they took away suzuki's whimsy in the movie but he's also always angry/pissed in the manga?
- "my balls are so blue, they're about to explode" pray4suzuki...
- wait no ew dont talk about jp women and women in general like that. suzuki, just keep it in ur pants dude, the hell
- i think i deserve to have seen machida sugiki in the bathtub. that shouldve been in the movie /j
- this man is an idiot
- he slept around to get back at sugiki for leaving him??? a whole idiot fr
- "is the black mary on your hip a lesbian?" that's gay
- everyone is obsessed with sugiki and that's so real
- "it's not like i want to kiss him" after kissing him multiple times, sure
- i feel like they shouldve danced together too in the movie at the park (?), but i can also see why it didn't fit for the movie's progression
- yeah no need to say lines like that i think
- suzuki's feminization kink and praise kink and degrader dom sugiki. oh this is exactly what i had in mind
- oh. aki is really supposed to be tall also. wow they really cast the two pairs so perfectly
- i dont really get why they're still so in denial even after they've kissed multiple times and had talks, had some personal reflections
- they're so wangxian. icb i was scared of infusing too much wangxian-esque characterization into the movie shinyas but manga shinyas are even more wangxian
- not a critique on the scene itself, just a personal opinion on this sort of situation: maybe because im a very intuitive type of person but i dont understand why some people would need chemistry to be explained to them. cant people just... feel the vibes? just act it?
- im so confused even more now why people say manga suzuki is so different from movie suzuki, they're literally so similar? he's always getting ragebaited still and they both have their adorable moments and sunshine moments. i dont understand what's so different in terms of personality
- the character i think is entirely different in the movie is aki
- alberto boemer being a short king lmao
- wait in the manga, shinya is their first name but in the movie, shinya is their surname?
- sugiki cleaning the entire place as a coping mechanism? because he's stalling and hoping suzuki will still come? (> it's the latter)
- but i've been thinking that the first movie is focused more on sugiki and standard so i've been thinking that the sequel could focus more on suzuki and latin and that's exactly what's happening in the latter part of the manga. My Mind as always ugh
- hmmm i think this part... i will see. i will see
- mmm that plot point is kinda ridiculous and came too out of nowhere but... moving on
- man, sugiki, this is kinda pathetic. Stand Up
- well this took a turn
- sugiki whoring himself up to sustain suzuki's career, Stand the fuck Up, my dude !!
- suzuki's just gonna let him??? what is goin on
- it's getting a bit too absurd. the tone shift is just too abrupt
- incest????
- im gonna whack sugiki. whoring yourself out for a man who can't love u just cause he cant fuck u the way he's used to?? girl get it together ohmygod
- stop i was also thinking of an injury plotline for sugiki but thought that might hit too close to home for machi so i decided against it. my mind fr
- these morally bankrupt rich people make my skin crawl
- can i beat up suzuki. can i. i want to. i need to
- these grannies zooming in on sugiki's butt 😔 they're just like me 😔
- shun punched suzuki for me
- suzuki "engaging in casual sex as self-harm" shinya
- wth does any of that even mean. just fucking talk about how u guys wanna have sex
- this is so fucking stupid — —
- im not even happy anymore that they got back together. im not convinced they should be with each other. just stay away from each other istg
- i take it all back manga shinyas are not wangxian. i will proceed to just make shit up about movie shinyas from now on
- "suzuki is more cheerful/cuter in the manga", "the manga is more nuanced" u people have such bad takes
- im not even... no... No... !!!
- if they ever do a sequel and still base on the manga tho, i have 80% trust that otomo and his team will be able to take the good parts and rearrange and modify it into something great
- im not even mad about the norman thing, im mad that suzuki just let suzuki whore himself out so he can have a patron and then was never bothered about it ever. so stupid and annoying!!!
- the art/illustration is topnotch tho i wish they drew the black and brown people differently
- that took an unpleasant turn. i cant lie. i dont think im gonna keep up with this still. like. im so sorry. really appreciate the mangaka still for birthing what's the basis for my current all-time fave movie but i will stick to consuming things i like
- but wow. the fact that they were able to extract all that from the manga and turn it into such an elegant movie is amazing
